Possibly the most anticipated sports car of 2020, the all-new Chevy Corvette delivers supercar levels of performance for a starting price below $60,000. Does this make it the best deal at the race track? Chris Wardlaw lapped one for over 130 miles through the California hills to find out.

They got their shit together. Like, I'm in the heart of europe in Switzerland where Porsches Maseratis and Ferraris are the regular. And this is the first time I've heard people talk excitedly about an American car to show off an import and be the envy of friends.

Excellent point! And, while you can't look at the engine...that's ok, since you're not looking at it while you drive anyway.

Wardlaw do you think the Z06 will be as compelling with better performance and different design albeit at a higher price?

Previous corvettes have had a fundamental flaw on the cheesy seat cushion, lack of support, too low, causing pain, discomfort, need about 5 plus inches more of cushion.

“Roadtripping” without adaptive cruise and lane keep assist is inexcusable in today’s world! I love this car, and would love to take it on some cross country “Roadtrips”. However, try maintaining constant focus while traversing hundreds of miles of flat, straight, boring interstate superhighways without any modern driver aids! Maddening and frustrating are a massive understatement in these scenarios. Come on GM, we are not always on winding, hilly, and twisty roads. At least give me the option of paying extra for your well reviewed “Super Cruise” and I will be forever grateful.
@ISUringman1974

adaptive cruise is not that big of a deal. And I actually found it annoying. I'd be cruising at a steady speed and someone would dart into my lane at a slower speed. The cruise matched their speed. Big deal. And, if you need a car to tell you that you drifted over into another lane, maybe you should take a bus.
@gilfolsom5980

If you drive long distances for many hours, you may discover how less stressful it is to have adaptive cruise. Until recently I drove 40,000 to 50,000 miles per year, and it was a lifesaver. If you are the typical Corvette owner, you may only put 3,000 to 5,000 miles on your car and it might not matter. I am not that driver.

@@gilfolsom5980 I sold my 2014 C7 on Sept 4. It had 45560 miles. Additionally, I have four other cars and I do not drive to work, since I have been retired for 8 years. But, even when I was working, adaptive cruise was more annoying than beneficial. Anyone who drives more than an hour at a time is foolishly abusing their body and will likely pay big consequences eventually. So, if one drives an hour or less, cruise control is good. Adaptive cruise is unnecessary. But, if you consider it a lifesaver...good for you. And when my C8 arrives without adaptive cruise, you can be sure that I won't miss it.

Definetly not the perfect sports car. Perfect GT would be more fitting, but after driving a fully loaded C8, its handling still needs work. Also it's styling in the rear 3/4 and directly behind looks a mess. Even more so in person. The golf club bag requirement was stupid from a design perspective. Automatic only is also disappointing. This is why its a solid GT

You really think that the horrible crooked stitching and uneven gaps that YOU show on the dash and door are good or even close to premium? My 2014 Dodge Dart had better interior quality then that. The 3LT doesn't improve quality it only improves the materials being used.

so bullshit! every car reviews talks about the Corvette's $60K price, there's not a goddamn 2020 Corvette priced less than $80K at any dealer. so tired of hearing this same BS

Styling doesn’t do it for me at all, and I am still not sold on the quality or reliability, but you cannot deny the value and the sheer capabilities of this car. Well done Chevy!

I owned two XLR's and put over 100000 miles on them over the course of four years and there were no torn seats, and no problems whatsoever, Laurence. Talk to any XLR owner and you'll hear the same. I sold my two XLR's and bought a C7 Z51-3LT and the interior of the 3LT was close to the XLR Platinum. The C8 interior is even better. Just sold my C7 on September 4 in preparation for my C8 3LT Convertible. Maybe you shouldn't make comments that reveal ignorance.

I have two observations. First, the rear quarter panel appears proud of the rear bumper cover on the passenger side. Second, some of the interior stitching appears imprecise (e.g., the stitching on the lower door panels and on the upper dash to the left of the instrument cluster). Furthermore, some of the leather seat sections appear loose and sloppy (e.g., the sides of the lower seat bolsters and the upper seat sections that frame the openings below the headrests). As much as I love the C8 Corvette, these aren't observations you will make in the Corvette's decidedly more costly competition. Regardless of its MSRP, the interior of any vehicle costing $60,000-$90,000 should exhibit excellent fit and finish. Just look at any Lexus product for proof that this isn't an unreasonable expectation. I hope GM addresses these issues, which are hopefully attributable to this being an all-new generation.

I have a 2019 Acura RDX with the most expensive trim, the seats are terrible. Leather was so wrinkly they had to replace one seat; the replacement seat is looking bad too. I have problems with Apple CarPlay, with no resolution in sight. The car vibrates on idle, the dealer cannot determine the cause, so has not been able to fix the problem As far as Lexus, the worst vehicle I ever owned! All manufacturers have problems.

This is first year. I’m sure it will improve. I owned a first year AMG cabriolet and it took months to fix the wind whistle from the passenger side seal. The leather is also crinkly. I have a C8 on order and although I agree one should expect high quality at this price point (ie fix any egregiously uneven stitching and panel gaps), you have to give the car a break. Heck, I have owners of Aston Martin’s who look at their uneven stitching and Ferrari owners with slightly crooked interior badging as signs of hand built pride.

GM stopped producing an icon, a classic that has been manufactured since 1953, that is, a car with its own identity to manufacture what now? A bizarre copy of LaFerrari. This is unfortunate. The Chevrolet Corvette died.
