After owning my 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 for 2 years, I decided to make a video about my ownership experience. Ive had some ups and some downs, mostly ups, with this Colorado ZR2 and I have no regrets.. Maybe just 1 😂

My 18 gas is still going strong. Thankfully never had an issue with the transmission shudder and other than replacing a couple DSSV's due to leaking seals I have zero complaints.

My 2019 ZR2 diesel has 90,000+ miles. No issues and even have a best mpg of 50 coming out of Colorado. My mother has a GMC 2500 with a 6.6 Duramax and towing the same load my truck gets better mileage. I'll definitely buy another.

The GM Performance front spacer kit can somewhat level the truck without messing with the stock upper control arms. It fits between the upper shock mount and frame bracket.

Glad I ran into your video I have the option to buy a z71 or zr2 and strictly on aesthetics and like you said about having the top of the line I want the zr2 but if I’m honest the z71 is what I should go for but I’m so torn this video helps

Mine goes really fast on sharp turns. But needs a steering damper for big turns. Having to hold my knees on the wheel to go fast.

I have always wanted acokirado ZR2. Back in 1999 before my daughter was born i owned a S10 ZR2 for 1.5 years but had yo sell it because can't put a baby seat on the tiny jump seats ir has in. All of extra can. Man that truck was solid. It easilytraceled through abour a 10 inch deep snowfall that winter of 1999 into early 2000. I might trade my 2023 Tacoma TRD OR truck in on a new 2023 Corrado ZR 2. I live in northeast tn not far from the holaton and unaka mountain ranges. Thst ZR2 would be so much more fun to drive on the off road trails in unocoi,Washington, carter and greene County, tn and heading on over into hot springs , nc. Also I could take it up to Tackett creek off road park that is located by lafollete,TN and tazwel?,TN to go riding on the trails along the tn/ky border. Them take ir down to wing rock in Oliver Springs to ride on trails at windrock off road Park. That area is located north of oak ridge, TN.

on the gas millage the huge difference is the height I have an 83 Toyota that has the 22r when I 1st got it back in 83 it got 28 miles a gallon then I lifted a couple months later, and the millage dropped to 22 to 24 mpg , then a year or so after that i put on a roll bar with 5 kc lights I was shocked at the difference in mpg and the power . the mpg dropped to like 15 to 16 but the worst thing was the huge power loss I couldn't use 5th gear at all, or I would start slowing down so 4th gear was it. now granted the lights stuck up quite a bit since I had them mounted on a light bar that mounted on to the roll bar. so, from that experience I learned that height makes more of a difference then just 1 tire size up grade. I ended up taking off the roll bar and lights and gave them away. I now run 31s on it and have plenty of power.

i never ordered a tune to adjust for added tire size.. so thats definitely some of the issue.

@@chrisdz If I am correct you put on 33s and I don't think those bf Goodrich's are a very heavy tire. unless they are heavy duty ones. you can check tire weight by going to discount tire web site and I think tire rack has it on their web site too but I think discount tires site is easier to use but you can look up the tire it will give weightand actual height rain rating ect. I went with 33 good year Duratrac because of weight, height, and mostly because of the rain slick rating which is a bit better rating then the bfs I am in FL and we have very frequent afternoon storms, so the rain rating was very important to me, but overall, the 2 tires are very close to the same. I did not feel a power loss when I went to larger tires so I have not yet done a tune but I have seen vids that say a tune will improve mpg so I might go for one someday. I don't think we will ever get great millage with these zr2s, but I will never get rid of mine

got a different computer and was forced to add numbers to my name . I have bought another zr2 my 1st one is a 2021 and ran extended cab my newest one is a 2022 crew cab and I am watching this video to see about putting lights across the front like yours just not on a full rack I have all ready restyled it like the 2021 and I am waiting on the chevy performance ball spline half shafts to lift it I am using the same lift kit I used on the other one its from truxxx. but how do you like those lights you have on that rack and what kind are they. and yes I am keeping both trucks
@chrisdz
@chrisdz 5 ай бұрын
The lights on the rack are Baja design. I forget the name of them. They are super bright, and light my hood up like crazy at night time, would probably be a little better on a darker colored truck.. but super bright like I said

The ZR2 shocks widely reported to be good at absorbing bumps, large and small. How does that translate to highway driving? Does it ride smooth? Not just "smooth for a truck", but how would you compare it to, say, a Jeep Grand Cherokee?
@chrisdz
@chrisdz Жыл бұрын
i didnt leave my front stock for long after i had the truck(leveled it with the peak suspension coilover kit), so i dont remember that much tbh but the rears definitely feel nice, but you have to remember its a pickup truck, so there isnt as much weight on the rears, so it can be a little bouncy at times, but it honestly drives pretty smoothly. On the highway its great, cruises like a suv would

My 2019 zr2 has 105,600 miles as of yesterday. Thermostat went bad last week and the usb port got stuck on draining battery every night. Fix it all myself changing out spark plugs. I’m sure the plugs could have gone over 150,000 miles because the fuel mileage is the same. Hopefully I’ll stop breaking down on the highway. It’s snowing here this morning and I can’t wait to go climbing up the hill.

Have you corrected the speedometer for tire size ?? If you're going off your computer for gas mileage it will be way off by just 1 size so that makes a difference. I'm sure on the hiway you probably get around 20. You can get a programmer or speedometer calibrator to help tranny shift points and overall will drive better 😉
@chrisdz

thats a very good point.. i never did any tire size correction.. ive been putting off getting the tune for the truck

@@chrisdz rough country and hypertech sell attire calibrator if you don't want a programmer. I usually put a programmer in my trucks but my last one I just got the speedometer calibrator. On the box top I never really notice a difference on the motor, usually just adjust for tire size and throttle response. But on my 2022 Colorado the pedal commander made a huge difference!!!! Good luck and keep the videos coming 😉
