I've had 2 Rangers from the past. One I had for 11 years...and the next one 12 years. I hope these stack up. My other 2 Rangers were standard transmission, but I was diagnosed with MS in 2009 so it's gotta be an automatic for me for now on. I always loved the Ranger because it got me what I needed. I never towed anything, but could throw something in the back without having to worry about having something delivered.

I had a 1995 Ranger, I bought it in 2006, for $3200. It had 79K miles then... 4cyl., automatic, 2 seat cab, 7 ft. bed, standard 2 wheel drive on the real axle. It did have a ball hitch on the bumper. I ran the truck nearly every day, and it had nearly 300K in 2018, when I sold the truckfor $500! It was still strong running, didn't smoke or have any odd noises coming from under the hood! But I was putting a 100 miles a day on the truck, in my work commute. I knew I needed something newer for that trek. I got a 2011 Escape, 2.5 4 cyl. Automatic with standard 2 wheel drive. "Keep it simple!" I still see it go by the house from time to time. They had even installed wood racks! The engine was originally built by Mazda! The only real downside I found was having to replace the timing belt. It never went the same way twice! Sure there were smaller issues. But what vehicle does not have them?

@howardkerr81744 жыл бұрын
@mafosa: Funny you would say that. Why? In other markets where Ford sells pretty much the same basic Ranger the engine choices are 3.2 liter 5 cylinder turbo diesel which is being phased out for a 2 liter turbo diesel. The 4 cylinder, in road tests, outperforms the 5 cylinder, and sometimes by a noticeable margin. My point being that Ford has a pretty good handle on making small engines work. Reliability down the road? I think I would continue to avoid a turbocharged engine for as long as possible so I would be inclined to go with a F150 with a NON-turbo V6.

@John Wright In my area, the few 2020 F150 REGULAR cabs that are left in inventory are usually cheaper than any Ranger at the same dealer. When you move up to a Super Crew F150, the price difference between it and a Ranger probably works out to $5-$15 / month...so it looks to me like you buy a Ranger for its size. BTW, my father owned 3 of the older Rangers, 2 F150s of different vintages, and a 1st generation Dodge Dakota crewcab. He ALWAYS went back to Rangers for their parkability and maneuverability....they were closer in size to a car.

The 4 cylinder in the ranger makes more power then any other mid sized truck no v6 needed. Plus the ranger outruns 90 percent of the vechiles you will come across while driving crap a 3.5 ecoboost f 150 nearly beats the ranger in the 1/4 mile the first half of the race is dead even
@itachir82904 жыл бұрын
@@victorgirouard1543 Some of us don't care that the 4cy has more power, fuel efficiency, etc. What some of us want is reliability and longevity. As someone who does main and light repair at a Ford dealer I can tell you Ford's naturally aspirated engines are very good. Their ecoboosts can get the job done but reliability is a question. Anyone who wants to comfortably get over 100K ought not to get a turboed vehicle. The more tech and complexity the more problems, higher cost, and less reliability. Ford makes great NA v6's. They are not the most powerful, fuel efficient, etc, but they do last and get you on your way. As someone who has a 2000 3.0 V6 Ranger (240k) and has driven the new Ranger at work and as a rental for a week I can tell you the new Ranger certainly is more powerful, but there is more confidence in my 3.0 V6. You can feel it. A turboed 4cy has more stress on it and despite how the 4cy in the 2019 has more power, the engine feels overworked and you can tell that you are driving a 4cy. I really like the 2019-20 Ranger but dislike the powertrain. That 10 speed is indecisive as well and is having issues due to how complex it is and how close the metal parts are to actually touching each other so if you have a 2019 Ranger, I would suggest getting the trans serviced every 50k or earlier. Ford's intervals are BS designed to make the cost of ownership look lower than it actually is and is designed to make it past the warranty time so it breaks afterwards so you have to buy another vehicle. One of the best powertrain options you can get is in the base model F150. That reliable 3.3l V6 is great paired with the old and reliable 6 speed auto. I would buy a new Ranger in a heartbeat if they put that set up in the new Ranger.

I've met a few people who have got 7K dollar discounts on XLT's. Sure when these came out they were ridiculously expensive. Most reviews will just quote the MSRP on these. NOBODY pays that anymore on Rangers. There was a guy from Albuquerque on TFL channel that just bought a silver one like this that had 4X4 for just over 30K. With the money saved he improved the mushy suspension and lifted it a bit and put better AT tires. Also got rid of that hideous grill using a Raptor style grill. Regardless of trim, the stock front ends look absolutely terrible on the Rangers. But with a few mods, the suspensions can be improved along with the looks. You must also look for deep discounts because like you say, these are not remotely worth anything close to MSRP. You better believe it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6nTqYStYpuMras

I too see a lot of sticker shock in the posts. To be fair, the price is a bit breathtaking to those who purchased Rangers in the past. (I owned two and paid less than 20k for each of them.) But the new Ranger is an evolution in size and capabilities compared to past holders of the name. The "fit and finish" of my 2020 is vastly superior to that of my 2004 Edge and 2011 XLT. My Sport came with fabric upholstery, which I paid my dealer to replace with leather, which in my opinion is an improvement (I hate fabric upholstery.) You can hear and feel the difference by simply closing a door. Both of my earlier Rangers had issues of wind noise through the passenger doors (leaking though the side mirrors (or so the dealership service techs said.) My new Ranger drives as though it has a larger engine than the 4 liter six in my 2011 XLT. The new 10 speed transmission is exceptional. Sure, they cost more, but the extra cost is worth it.

This review really shines some light on it. I like it, but but 🤔. It kind of grows on ya after a while. Ground clearance is good. Rangers are excellent trucks, but you know me...Ridgeline 💯. Now why did that big white van block your view from turning 😒. Great review Nolan!!!

I appreciate the demo. Around November or December of 2020 I plan on buying a truck. My left eye has been on the Ranger, while my right has been on the Honda Ridgeline.. I know I have time to go before its time to even drive up into a dealership, but i find myself having a problem of what i want..
@PrimeAutotainment4 жыл бұрын
Haha that’s always fun but tough deciding between vehicles. I think it really comes down to your need with each vehicle. Towing and off road is definitely a big bonus with the Ranger. Rise comfort is a bonus with the Ridgeline plus that in bed trunk can be really useful at times. If you decide on what please stop back and let me know what you got 👍
@richardgaspard79174 жыл бұрын
@@PrimeAutotainment For me torc , off roading and towing a trailor is erralevent. I will need a hitch and ball to carry a powerchair lift, unless I get the lift that installs in the bed of the truck. I would love the bells and whistles (push to start, Bluetooth, reverse camera, ect) but my main situation will be price. I wish I could say more but for security reasons I cant tell you what im working with money wise. BUT I will let you know which one I get if I remember..lol
@PrimeAutotainment4 жыл бұрын
Richard Gaspard either one would work well for that 👍. I hear ya in price. Hopefully in December you could get some good discounts. If you don’t need the off roading and towing of the Ranger, I personally think the Ridgeline is a better daily truck and more practical. Not to say the Ranger isn’t a good daily driver. The good news is a reverse camera is standard in both trucks and I believe Bluetooth is too
@richardgaspard79174 жыл бұрын
@@PrimeAutotainment OHH I appreciate your professional input.. this is good to know. maybe you can help me decide on what to do about getting a lift installed in the bed vs a lift that is held b y the hitch and ball under the bumper. Would the lift block the camera to your best knowledge?
@PrimeAutotainment4 жыл бұрын
Dang that’s a good question and I don’t know. I’ve never installed one to know how that works. I bet you could find some videos in here explaining and showing that though

I like the ranger, but for not much more one can get a F150 and then the bed is really short and not 48" between the wheel wells. Space wise there's little difference in room between a F150 extended cab and the crew cab ranger in the back seat. I am just wondering where the value is with this. Then I am 6'5. I like the idea of it, but it's neither here nor there.

Sup!?! The Ranger’s a good looking truck IMO, especially in the up level trims. I’d definitely take this over a Frontier or GM twins. Impressive power and towing. I know it’s a truck, but I think it could use a few soft touch surfaces inside. And $4,000’for 4WD is crazy. Luckily where I live, ya don’t need it. You should be congratulated on the wide variety of vehicles you review (well except for Subaru’s 😆 but that will come in time). Most others always review sports cars or loaded up luxury vehicles none of us can afford.
@PrimeAutotainment4 жыл бұрын
Hey man! Agreed on all of that haha. As always. So I tried reaching out for a 2nd time to a dealership Group which has Subaru as one of their dealerships in Dallas. We shall see how it goes. They are building one in town (at least that’s the rumor) and I’ve tried speaking with people at their out of town location to no avail. If we could get a Subaru dealership and have easy access...that would be awesome! Fingers still crossed...

Yes, please show the lariat, my wife wants to trade our 2018 f-150 coyote in for one because it’s quite long to park but I can’t see letting it go. I did drive a couple 2019s and not impressed with the small writing on the control buttons and not really fond of all the plumbing for the turbos. The price seems quite high for what you get as it is quite smaller than I’m used to. Maybe we’ll just look at an Edge for her or even an Escape. Anyways I still got my TJ Jeep for myself and let her make the decision on her own wheels.

Wish they came with a V6 or a turbo diesel 4? Love the look, but hate the low engine size? Currently own an ‘04 Ranger & absolutely live it, but I’d rather spend money to get it refurbished than spend huge $$$ for a plastic new Ranger?

I went and test drove a 2021 XLT today. Unless you’re going with the tremor package,which will set you back almost 50k, it’s a pretty basic work truck experience. It’s fun and zippy to drive, but the handling and breaking is a little loose and mushy. For me the XLT lacks too much for the 36k price(AWD/4WD electric seats etc) and the interior build isn’t all that impressive. A lot of plastic. Should be priced a lot lower than the MSRP. Not bad for a basic work truck at the lowest trim level, but if you’re going to go up to lariat/tremor trim levels you’re better off going with the Tacoma the price isn’t that much different.

It might just be me, but honestly, I believe the 3.3L, 2.7L Eco, and 3.0L Diesel should all be options in the Ranger. The 3.3 is a natural for all that don't want the Turbos and it matches up great power-wise with the rest of the midsizes. The 2.7 gives a bigger engine upgrade with even better performance for the size, and would get better MPG since it wont have to work as hard as the 2.3. The 3.0 would be great power wise for the size of the Ranger, and gives the diesel option for the midsize. Plus it would outperform the Baby Duramax. And even if they don't wanna take the 2.7 from the F150 because I know a lot of people are buying that, at least put the 3.3 and 3.0 in the Ranger to give some variety for the platform. Its no reason the F150 should have 6-7 engines and the Ranger 1 lol. The diesel is gone from the F150, so I'm just hoping they're planning on moving it over. Plus its rumored the 2023 GM midsizers might have the 2.7 in them, so adding the 2.7 to the Ranger would combat that.

@PatrolOfficer161 The V6 Mustang has been gone for a couple years and that has nothing to do with Transmission choice. You can get the Manual with the Eco-Boost, the 5.0, and the Shelby GT350. The just released GT500 is the only Mustang model to not offer a Manual but Ford said if there is enough customer interest they will add it.
