2020 Honda Civic Si FULL REVIEW: Maybe All the Type R You Really Need

Check out my review of the 2020 Honda Civic Si HPT (which just means "high performance tire"). Before you consider dropping nearly $40 grand on the Civic Type R (and I can assure you it's very tempting to do so), you might want to check out the more palatable Civic Si for $26k. Much of the Civic Type R's essential goodness can be found in the Si, if not the outright speed. Let me know what you think in the comments, and as always, thanks for watching!

As a dad who owned a 17 Si for 4 years and upgraded to a 2021 Type R I fully agree with your assessment of the Si. Had a blast with it as a daily - Still have my 08 FA5 Si sedan (getting a K24 bottom end with IPS cams in my K20 head) - the 10th gen Si is just impressive stock - could use a little more spring rate, out of the box the car yaws - yes, rotates - very stiff chassis. The Si impressed me so much I had to have a Type R. Wow - Si on steroids. Where the Si was low on maintenance costs 40,000 miles - 4 tires, several oil changes and stock pads 10,000 miles in the R is 3 sets of fronts now, 1 new set in the rear - full front and rear pad change and new set of 18s (bent a 20" on a massive pothole - still held air tho) So unless you love performance and dont mind dropping thousands of dollars in comsumables - the Si is a huge value per dollar spent. Waiting for my Cup 2s to come in for more grip lol. The Si with an acutity stage 3 shifter setup, NA performance Type R retrofit clutch/flywheel combo 16lbs vs stock 27lbs) , 27Wom rear motor mount , flex fuel kit, pherable hondata ethanol tune and PRL downpipe/front pipe/intetcooler would be PERFECT on a balance of power/cost/value 280whp/340wtq and low 12s@113 or so while still getting 38-40mpg highway. Also easy to return to stock and part out if you move on.

Awesome review! Def worthy of a sub. I'm torn between keeping my WRX, or swapping for the Si or R, but you def hit the nail on the coffin with this review. I've owned a couple of 9th gen Si's and loved them, WRX is a different beast, but def not easy to live with, especially now that global warming is in full bloom, I rarely find myself needing the AWD system. All it does is guzzle fuel and add weight at this point. The shifter is good, but you really need open roads and high speeds for this car to shine, it's def getting old, hauling this monster to and from work for 90% of my driving. Si is a peppy light car, and this gen seems to have stripped 100lbs off from last gen, so I'm sure it's even more of a joy to drive. The only thing that bothers me is the electronic ebrake, I really love my hand brakes to be manual, but then again, I'd prob never use it for harsh turns in my current driving purposes, just useful for slippery conditions mostly.

Thank you so much! Yes, I think the winning argument for the Si boils down to value and ease of ownership. Aside from the trash infotainment, the Si does everything as well or better than its competitors for less money (and likely has better long term build quality). If I were buying a car to own long term, it would absolutely be my pick, especially as a family man. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻

I got a 2019 Si Coupe late last year and love it. Already slapped an intake on it and some visual changes. Love the car. Too much talk, not enough fly bys/rolling shot/driving. I mostly 10-sec double tapped the whole video and all I saw was you sitting in the driver's seat talking. I would've preferred & expected a bit more balance with your shots, especially over a 20 min video.

@BlackNo2
@BlackNo2 4 жыл бұрын
He's likely comparing it to the type R as a daily driver not from a track perspective. 0-60 isn't too different between the two. It's when you go over 60 that you notice the difference, but how often are most of you really gunning it past 60 in a daily a to b situations? For track, type R wins all the way, but that's a whole different scenario and I'm sure most type R buyers don't even track it, so there's that. Most type R owners keep their cars as a show piece, second car, park it a mile away, can't afford the upkeep, and it winds up as a show car more than what it was built for. This review clearly highlights that an Si is just as good as the R in most daily driving, and it's an awesome review at that.
@notsure3535
@notsure3535 4 жыл бұрын
@@BlackNo2 Any car enthusiast who is a spirited driver even if for just a daily driver would notice the type r is very different. It's not just about 0 to 60. The whole drivetrain trans gearbox brakes suspension much better then the si.
