We review the 2020 Kawasaki Z900 ABS! First launched in 2017, the Z900 platform was the budget sport rider's go-to choice due to its no-frills, bare-bones approach. With no electronic rider aids, other than optional ABS, the Z900 undercut the competition by several hundred dollars, and it also performed admirably.
For model year 2020, the Z900 ABS returns with several technological upgrades, including a full-color TFT dash, traction control, ABS, LED lighting, and a few other refinements.
The best news yet is that you get all of those new features an additional $200 when compared to the previous Z900 ABS MSRP. The 2020 Kawasaki Z900 ABS has an MSRP of $8,999 - equalling rivals such as the Yamaha MT-09.
Road Test Editor Nic de Sena spent some quality time with the 2020 Kawasaki Z900 ABS and shared his thoughts in this review! Rider is a registered trademark of EPG Media LLC

My how Kawasaki has kept the 900cc class alive! I would like to think this one carries some of the DNA from the original Ninja GPZ900, my favorite sport bike from the 80's. Thanks Nick for giving us this review.

Hey Mike, Thanks! You also posed an interesting philosophical question about motorcycle design and lineage. How much GPZ900 is in the Z900, Z900 RS and RS Cafe is an interesting conundrum. Given that motorcycle design is evolutionary, one has to assume that there is GPZ DNA in there. In the least, we have what we have today based on the lessons learned from back then. Take care! - Nic

I always have issues, both in look and structure security/integrity, of the exhaust pipe: - underbelly horizontal pipe that is too low - vertical pipe (section behind front tyre) jutting out too much I wish bike manufacturers find a way to address these 2 sections

Is this a new ride-by-wire throttle compared to previous model years? Thanks.

Great Review! How would you compare this to the MT 10 strictly on the breaks and suspension department. Just looking at a point of reference

Hey Paragon_X, The current generation Yamaha MT-09 is a great bike and what you'll often see praised is the triple-cylinder engine. Trust me, it deserves all the accolades it gets. When it comes down to engines, I'd say that the MT-09 wins out and beats many of its competitors. However, where the MT-09 does falter is in regards to the its softly sprung and damped suspension, which can show weakness when "spirited" riding is involved. The Z900 ABS does better in that department pretty handily. Braking is tough for me to comment on because it isn't something that immediately stands out in my mind on the MT-09 and it's been a while since I've ridden one. With the nearly all-new 2021 Yamaha MT-09 on its way, we're hoping that the suspension issues have been resolved. We'll have to wait and see. Hope this helps! - Nic

Hey Vaso, Of course! It is more than sporty enough to go for a spin at the racetrack. Just make sure that you have good, grippy tires installed and you'll be ready to go! Take care! - Nic

Probably, you should be able to touch down on one side at least and that’s all you really need
