I met my wife in 2015. I went to her house in that same year and noticed that her neighbor had a Land Cruiser parked outside their house. While going through my wife’s photo album, I saw a picture of her when she was 4 playing outside her house. And in the background of that photo? That SAME damn Land Cruiser. My wife was 24 when we met… Toyota products are just built differently.

I have a 16GX and I replaced the 18inch for 17in wheels, and was able to fit meatier Goodyear KO2s on it, and get rid the soccer mom tires. I get about 16mpgs maybe 19 if it's all highway, but its extremely capable in snowy conditions especially with a center diff locked. I drove it on a highway going 75mph on a complety snowed in road and not once did it show a hint of slipping or losing traction. In fact I passed wranglers patting along. With good off road tires these things are tanks in the worst conditions, extremely capable and very confident. Mine had crawl control and it feels better on snowy road then my wife's 4Runner.

I had a 2010 F150 until 2022. I started watching reviews and hearing all the great things about the GX460. So after watching your last 2020 GX “Suited for worlds end” video I decided to drive the GX and was so impressed with its smoothness and reliability. I purchased a certified 2021 GX and have been pleased with driving it everyday. It is capable on road and off-road in whatever weather conditions. It is quite, smooth, engine power is balanced for the vehicle, and I plan to drive it for the next 10 years… the price tags of new cars are outrageous and the dependence on electronics will be extremely complicatedly expensive. Mark and Jack you guys do awesome work. Thanks for the dedication to your channel.

If you mean the price to repair said electronics on new cars, the GX is no different. I was fortunately able to talk insurance into footing the bill if a $6500 repair on my GX when it had just 100k miles on it. It was due to a sunroof drainage leak that fried both the door harness and junction harness. Of course things like this can happen to any modern car with a sunroof, but it being a Lexus made it exorbitantly expensive to fix. One still needs to kee in mind that when buying *any* high end car that freak expensive things can come about, other than engine and transmission problems.

I agree. Owned my '08 Limited for a year and a half now and was surprised I only had to change the rear brakes, timing belt, and some other important milestone maintenance. But it's pretty much bulletproof. It's important to meet milestone items regardless if they seem "fine", all you're doing is prolonging the life Vs putting off expected maintenance.

I'm truly impressed with Mark's ability describe the character and characteristics of a car, without having to own it! Mark or Jack never owned a GX yet this review was completey spot on about the GX, this is exacrtly why I bought one as a work horse, alongside a former AMG and now an M5 as my "fun" cars. It's impressive how they are able to "understand" the car, the why behind it and be so articulate about it. This is only solidified my trust and interest in their reviews. I don't get to drive as many cars as they do, so I don't have any impressions of cars that I've never owned. So this was very interesting to watch as an owner, and they hit the nail on the head. I respectfully disagree on some of the things they said about M5, but i understand where they come from. It's almost maddening watching other car reviewers and seeing them completely miss the mark about the car and essentially talk some nonsense opinion of theirs.

@@sunflash101Normal job like everyone else, I was just single and I bring home about 80-90k after taxes a year. I bought an E63S during Covid lock down for a big discount and earlier in 2022, I sold it for the same price that I bought it and, bought an M5 for MSRP, had to add 20k, which I just took out a 3 year loan for. Essentially 2 cars for the price of one these past 2 years. And l disagree what they said about the M5 Comp, yes its not as dramatic as the E63S, but trust me I still look back at it when I park and still have a huge green on my face when I drive it. I bought a used 2016 GX in 2021 as a daily/utility vehicle, also its my forever car. It's got almost 80k miles on it now, I do all the maintaince myself on it and not even slightly wortied thats it well past its warrant now. I wish you can keep the M5 or AMG past their warranty period, it's essentially a huge gamble and risk once those cars start to get to 100k and above. And I got a GX not cause it's a Lexus. I didn't know they even existed in fact. I just needed a reliable body on frame 4x4 for the winter. So naturally I was looking at 4Runners, and lo and behold since GXs depreciate more, I saw a 2016 GX being sold for the same amount as a 2016 TRD Off Roaf 4runner with the same miles, no kidding. Except GX had premium Audio, 3 zone climate control, heated back seats, heated steering ect. I didn't care about soccer mom looks so it was a no Brainer.

Peace of mind in the disposable world we live in. I have a 2019 and absolutely love the solid feel of the truck. The V8 is so smooth that it reminds me of my dad's Buick station wagon. As far as not having Apple Car Play, which I've found buggy on our previous Honda products, the Blue Tooth system just works. All of the time. I listen to Audible, with Waze overriding, or the Sat radio, and make phone calls, all hands free. When I forgot my phone the other day, the onboard navigation was a fine backup. It hauled my wife, our 3 kids, and 5 large suitcases to the airport for the holidays, and can easily pull the boat up a steep, slippery ramp. Gas mileage has been 16 to 18 mpg per tank, depending on who has been driving it. It is much easier to park compared to full size SUVs. The rear view camera could be better shielded and have better lowlight performance. Pretty much my only complaint. Maintenance costs have been moderate.

I feel like we're entering, or are already in, the "Great Era of Unreliability" caused by these new complex hybrid systems being rushed out due to government mandates regarding MPG. It's ironic that as soon as the industry seemed to have finally reached a point of solid reliability in automotive design in the late 2010's, everything got thrown in the trash for the new hybrid systems to satisfy mandates. Add this to the obsession with computers, screens, and sensors, and we're driving something that's more disposable than something 10 years ago. We're going backwards. It's depressing. I'm glad to see Lexus stayed true to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." design so I can buy one of these used for $30k in 20 years.

Sorry for repeating myself on GX videos but I traded my '14 GX for a '14 LX and the GX was gone within hours of being listed at the Mercedes dealer. The salesman was blown away how easy it was to move vs the usual drudgery of selling MB products. Out-of-state buyer took it sight unseen. I since traded the '14 LX for a '17 LX, and it's the right blend of tech and reliability and I'll be driving it until I don't need to drive anymore. Put in an aftermarket Apple CarPlay/Android Auto box and it does everything I want it to and other things I'll never need it to do. The GX will always make me smile, my in-laws parents once commented on how safe they felt when I took them to the airport during a Seattle snow/ice storm through the hills and highways. No better approval for me!

Bought a 2020 Luxury with the sport package (Captain's Chairs!) for my wife last year with 65k on it. We don't give 2 shits about the MPGs. We bought it because it has all the luxury you could possibly need, is the most reliable used vehicle in the US, has great off-road capabilities for bad weather, and still looks good. Added some 18" fuel rims and all terrain tires. My wife couldn't be happier. Our other truck is a 2004 4runner v6 Limited named Sharon. Has 245k on her and still drives brand new :)

Glad to see you two have come around from your "looks like it's from 1871" opinion. There's a reason the 4Runner has grown massively in popularity and the GX 460 is just a luxury 4R with a V8 (and a horridly massive front grille). The 4R Off Road Premium or TRD Pro will run you $50-$55k, so buying a slightly used GX in the low $40's, chopping the bumper and throwing on a lift gives you an equally impressive off road rig with full time 4WD (amazing in the snow) for less money.

Even though the KDSS system is hydraulic, it does not prevent it from seeing failure as witnessed in the 4runners. It is an expensive system to fix, and anytime it fails, ppl convert to Bilstein shocks. Then we got the starter motor location where you have to remove the exhaust manifold to get to. The exhaust manifolds tend to form cracks and leak after awhile. Time will tell how reliable the new TT engines are.

Love the content and channel fellas. You bring a fresh perspective to every review. I purchased a 2021 tundra for the same reasons you discussed regarding the GX. Simple, proven dependable.

Love the no nonsense review. I have a 2018 GX. I want to like the newer stuff but every time I test drive something it feels like a cheap toy. The GX is a reliable luxury tank. Just get the underneath coated with “Corrosion Free” coating every fall. The Canadian Army tested and approved it. Change radiator fluid, tranny fluid every 60-70k miles, engine oil at 5k, front/rear diff/ transfer case fluid every 30-40k and drive it for 300-500k no problem. Hope that helps

I went through 2 G500s, X5s, Land/Range Rovers, Nissan Patrol, so on and so on, and ended up in a Lexus GX. This is what a proper car guy buys once they’ve been through it all, a simple, reliable, capable, comfortable and well built car like this one. Luxury became not having to worry about anything.
