It's actually beacuse of the gearbox. It has nothing to do with overheating. The Lexus GS 450h can reach 250 kph but it has a different gearbox.

Is that what that is? I'm very familiar with the Toyota hybrid system and I know it can be quite vocal when you reach the "power" band.... But it's a constant drone and not "changing gears". Also noticed that as the needle drops into charge zone (engine would actually be off or straight to idle here) it sounds like it's on overrun. This is all sound symposer crap then?

Speedometer error is massive, one one of the biggest I've seen in a car.

It's not really an error though. It's deliberately done. The vehicle will have a pretty accurate measure of speed. It's just the number they send to the instrument cluster is tweaked to cover their arses. I.e. you can't say it's the cars fault when you're caught speeding. Also helps with accounting for different wheel sizes. Japanese OEMs tend to be quite conservative with this. My old Honda had 10% offset upto 50mph and then was 5mph out from there on. So to actually do 70 on the motorway requires you to do 75 on the Speedo.

It's one year later, but I wanted to say that Lexuses can be fast if you choose the right engine combo. There is the GS and LS with V6 hybrid that have 100-200kph in less than many cars on the street today. I'm talking about GS/LS450h
