Great review. I do have a comment, I tested the X7 and GLS, and I found the Mercedes far better and more confortable than the BMW.

Love your honesty, Steve. I feel the same way about the GLS. It didn’t come off as the S Class of SUVs. I was more impressed with the X7, especially when it came to interior materials. The X7 had lots of stitched leather even in the third row.

Steve Hammes New Car Reviews : Exactly! Somewhere X7 has that Charisma and even more so with BMW’s first product in this segment. Dunno what’s with Mercedes Benz, their entire lineup looks more like twins, triplets or quadruplets...you get the picture. Just that, the kind of performance their cars/SUV can deliver doesn’t exactly rub off on their design language. Say for example, while I haven’t yet seen the Mercedes-Benz’s latest exotic creation - GT 63S 4 door in person, it’s design simply doesn’t exude how strictly performance oriented it is. BMW, on the other hand, has performance oozing from every single nuts and bolts fitted into the car. Just look at the new M5 (Competition) - it’s gonna eat you even when it’s not burning the rubber on the track. And mind it, there are even more meaner machine in BMW lineup than M5. M3 is smoking hot. Gosh!! Has the potential to take anyone’s breath on the street. It’s a legend.

excellent content. videography is superb..... I have a new 2020 GLE 450 SUV in the same red (which really is incredible)....and the dark nappa leather . So mine is very similar to your test vehicle. The GLS just has a few options and is a bit bigger than the GLE so I feel qualified to comment. This is a very luxurious car. I love my GLE. And yes a person would be crazy not to want one. One correction/comment about Apply Carplay though: To use carplay, you need the wire....but you don't need the wire to play your music from your iphone to the car. And yes you can also answer calls and make calls wirelessly too. Via bluetooth. unless you feel you have to use carplay (which I don't), you can go 100% wireless connection from car to phone. Awesome review. Would love for you to review a new GLE 450.

Hey Steve, last May you reviewed a Ram 3500 megacab dually. That review got me interested. In November I placed an order for a 2020 Limited megacab dually and last week I picked it up. I love that thing. Also last week we ordered a GLS 580 for my wife. And here you go with reviewing one😀👍 Expecting to take delivery in late May. Thanks for the great work.

Will do.👍 It was a toss up between 580 and X7. At the end of the day, the instrument panel of GLS won over comfort and overall better look of 3rd row, who's current occupants are more concerned with working WiFi, so they can play with their iPads. We activated AT&T hot spot with unlimited data for a year in the Ram and it's a life saver. Comes to just under $17 a month. Works great for streaming KZbin, or Netflix on multiple devices with only a few dead areas in remote deserts of California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. I understand that Mercedes has the same Wifi service from AT&T. A perfume dispenser was what pushed it over for my wife. She's already shopping for compatible fragrance on Amazon 🤣

Finally got our GLS 580 after a year of waiting. So far we love it. Not without few manufacturing defects. Leather stitching is crooked in some places. Rear ventilated seats are defective. The fan hits the leather when you sit down, or lean back on backrest. One fan burned out as we drove home from dealership. The passenger in this seat didn't realize that the fan was rubbing on leather and jammed. They are looking at these issues. Hoping for a quick resolve. Not the quality we expected from a $126,000 vehicle from a brand who says "The best, or nothing"

Nice jacket Steve, may I ask what brand? Great review! I am in awe that air suspension has made such a come back in mainstream vehicle brands. From RAM, Mercedes, Volvo, you name it. Especially considering it’s expensive and reliability issues Great job rocking it tho! All you need is are the windows down and some R&B screaming

The X7 really is the 7 Series of SUV's. The GLS is _just_ a GLE LWB, imo. I think Mercedes missed the mark with the GLS. Only the Maybach version is truly an S Class SUV, in my eyes.

3rd Row is actually good. Better than giants like the infiniti qx80 and lexus lx 570. Those are it's main rivals.

It's not good at all. Compare it to the Telluride or Palisade and it's a clear loser.

It was smaller than previous models. No idea why German keep making their cars more curved and smaller in last decades. If you sit in third row for a long journey you would not be happy. discovery 4 is much larger in third row and even gla x166(previous model) has large space than this new model in third rows. The designer just hate passengers in last row and want to punish them ?

Looks like a rotten pile of shit ..the earlier model had a presence ... This may have interior and tech, the old was extremely timeless when it comes to design
