Thanks Tom - it has been *years* since you reviewed a GLS. It is certainly best in class, however the "tiny touch pads" on the steering wheel (started with all current-gen MB) are a *real pain* - no way to prevent brushing across them accidently all the time. Also, please try find hand car-washes - get a cringey feeling looking at those swishing paint scrapers ;)

I like the part when you said the wealthy people have a lot to choose from... The reality is a lot (if not more I'd suggest) of non wealthy people will deliberately put themselves into debt to finance or lease one of these machines. 5:10 - typical for german engineering - why design a suspension that just works, when you can let the guy at the wheel change the individiual height of each wheel. truly practical when off roading - not. anything below 500 Volts cannot be called a hybrid system. The extra boost of power means only one thing - mercedes didn't bother to provide proper cooling in order to have a sustained boost of power.
@mybro7274 жыл бұрын
I love the tech Mercedes offers, but I guess the hard touch plastics along the bottom of the doors 9:21 and the cheap hard touch plastics that are already scratched up around the USB slots 9:45 are “Mercedes-Benz grade” materials which is eye opening. For a vehicle that cost *$117,000* this is very underwhelming. I’ll take the Cadillac Escalade or the BMW X7 over this instead for the same money. Much more luxurious and both offer burbling V8 power as well! Edit: 10:54 as if spending $117,000 wasn’t enough, you have to step up to a Maybach variant in order to get a power retractable running board? Mercedes-Benz this is a joke.

I have difficulty understanding the need for the big vehicles. The average size of a household has been on a decline for decades, the percentage of people that do outdoor activities has also seen a decline. The average person has less friends than people 30 years ago. What are all these vehicles being filled with? I am starting to think it is all for people to “keep up with the Jones’s” or say “mine is bigger than yours”

Love all the gouges in the plastic next to the CUSB port 😂 Crazy pricing on this, my neighbor has the previous version, 550 GLS, to haul her two under 6 y.o. girls. Utter stupidity (trust me, she has no idea of its performance capabilities) but then they are spending $250k for a pool in construction for two years. I mean, we are millionaires but wouldn’t for a moment waste our money on a SUV like this when the Koreans can do this for 2/3 less.
@DrivenCarReviews5 жыл бұрын
Not that I need to defend Mercedes but no, the plastic is not cheap. I almost a made comment that it's probably from the dozens of writers before me trying to jam a regular USB jack into there in vain. And no, the Koreans don't do this for 1/3 the price. As much as I like the Telluride and Palisade, they aren't even close to the experience this car offers. But at $118K, it better be good. Your neighbors pool is a completely different matter though...
@tpolerex72825 жыл бұрын
Driven Car Reviews I’m with you that they are great performing and mostly well built vehicles, but their typical demographic wouldn’t know the difference between a Mazda or Mercedes and truth be told there isn’t really that much difference that is ever actually ever experienced to the buyers of these vehicles. A glowing three pointed star and some fancy infotainment graphics is generally enough for 90% of this demographic to justify the plummeting depreciation and exorbitant maintenance for its ambitious engineering. The vast majority still drive them like Prius V’s. Don’t take my admittedly snarkiness as a gauge to your great reviews which I love. You’ve got the chill, knowledgeable attitude missing in almost all the others, keep up the great work!
