Gretzky, Messier, Coffey and Fuhr were the remote presenters of the awards to the winners. I really can't see any award that could be argued went to the wrong player here.

SKSaddrakk Carlson was on pace for the most points for a D man since 1990, he had 60 assists 15 goals in 69 games... Carlson had more hits, blocks and takeaways than Josi.... Oh and Carlson has a cup 2 years ago, finished in the top 3 norris voting 3 years in a row and led the league in points by a Dman 2 of the last 3 years.... Josi is a product of Toronto media bias
@sksaddrakk5183
@sksaddrakk5183 3 жыл бұрын
@@nickvenuto9803 as to the stanley cup: maybe you did not get the memo but a SC is a team effort and has nothing to do with individual trophies. There are a lot of mediocre (for nhl standards) players who can claim one or several stanley cup rings. Ray Borque on the other hand one of the arguably best D in the history of hockey almost did not make it. 99 has not won a SC after he left the oilers. Does that mean he was a crap player in LA, NY and STL? I am not reading US or Canadian news. Why would Toronto media toot Josis horn? He does not play for a CAN franchise (nor did he in the past afaik) nor is he Canadian. I mentioned before in an other post that I do not think that points should be a hard criteria for evaluating how good a defender is. Josi may not have as many checks as carlson. Again checks alone do not make a good defender. To the contrary. I hsve been taught that checks are the last legal resort if you are caught on the wrong foot/out of position. I.e. if you are not out of position there are less occasions where a check is needed. Of course for the crowd it is more exciting if you deliver a solid check than the D being smart not to get in that situation in the first place. But coaches in my experience prefer the smart over the hard ones. BTW you may want to check your facts: This year is the first season Carlson made it into the last three for the Norris. The other two times you probably refer to ERIK Karlsson who won it twice 11/12 and 14/15 and was nominated an other two times 15/16 and 16/17. Josi is third in points in the last 3 seasons (behind Carlson and Burns) but has the most goals out of the three and by far the best +/- stat... further and in addition the forty points lead Carlson has over Josi can be found in the PP points where WSH has an Ovechkin who is just deadly in front of the net... NSH cannot rely on a goal getter of that level... look I am not saying that Carlson is a bad D (far from it) I just think Josi is the better allround defender...
@lordoflaziness7775
@lordoflaziness7775 3 жыл бұрын
Nick Venuto Josi played for a bad team and still got poonts and the best +/-. He did it himself. Carlson was lucky he had great teammates, its an INDIVIDUAL not a TEAM award. Right decision 👍

Last but not least the trophy goes to the best D over the whole season not the first 25 games and I was always questioning the importance of points to determine a good defender. What does it do for your team defensively if you are yoloing into the opposing zone and neglect your defensive tasks. I genuinely believe that Josi was the best allround D this season.

He is pointing out that when Draisaitl doesnt put up at least 2 points in a game the Oilers are hot trash, while when Nathan doesn't score at least 2 points the Avalanche are a still most likely a playoff team. And I agree points aren't everything but putting up 110 in 71 games is ridiculous, he was on pace to score 127 points, while Mackinnon was on pace to score 110 points (which means Draisaitl scored in points in 71 games what Mackinnon was on pace for in points for 82 games)

Hart Memorial Trophy Description: First awarded in 1923-24, the Hart Memorial Trophy is presented annually “to the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team.” Voting: Members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association submit ballots for the Hart Memorial Trophy at the conclusion of the regular season, with the top three vote-getters designated as finalists. History: The Hart Memorial Trophy was presented by the NHL in 1960 after the original Hart Trophy was retired to the Hockey Hall of Fame. The original Hart Trophy was donated to the League in 1924 by Dr. David A. Hart, father of Cecil Hart, former manager-coach of the Montreal Canadiens. 2019-20 Winner: Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl won the 2019‑20 Hart Memorial Trophy. The top choice on 91 of the 170 ballots cast, he accumulated 1,309 voting points to edge second-place Nathan MacKinnon (1,162 points) and third-place Artemi Panarin (889 points). Draisaitl (43‑67-110 in 71 GP) topped the NHL with 110 points, 13 more than the next-closest player (Connor McDavid: 97). He registered at least one point in 56 of his 71 appearances, the highest such percentage in the League (78.9%) ahead of Panarin (78.3%) and Patrick Kane (77.1%). Shannon, how does Josi winning the Norris affect Pieterangelo's contract? Does he lose leverage because Josi, on paper now, is clearly the better defenseman? How can his agent argue he's as good as Josi and thus deserving of that type of contract? when Pieterangelo has no Norris Trophy to his name? Josi's career achievements, on a n individual level, far outweigh Pieterangelo's as well. Their point totals are similar but Pieterangelo plays with Tarasenko and a far superior supportive cast than Josi in Nashville.

I don't necessarily think that this true but it is an interesting What If theory, here it is: What if Leon Draisaitl is the better player then Connor Mcdavid with both players in their primes? Let me explain: in 2016-2017 Draisaitl has his breakout season (not his prime yet) scoring 77 points, while Mcdavid has his first 100 point season. in 2017-2018 Draisaitl has a down year scoring only 70 points in 78 games, but he also had a 56.09 faceoff percentage, while Mcdavid had 108 in 82 games, but only a 46.62 faceoff percentage, this season showed that Draisaitl was used a bit more often in the game and in many different sanarioes. in 2018-2019 Draisaitl scored 105 points in 82 games, scoring a league second best 50 goals, while having a 21.65 shooting percentage and a 50.52 faceoff percentage, while Mcdavid scored 116 points in 78 games, scoring 41 goals but 75 assists and only having a 46.62 faceoff percentage. This past season Draisaitl out scored and out point scored Mcdavid. The question I am posing here is what if Draisaitl is making Mcdavid better not the other way around, but since Mcdavid is the Canadian kid playing on a team in Canada the NHL, Sportsnet and Tsn know that it is more marketable to market Mcdavid as the best player in the world. What if the prime of Leon Draisaitl's career will out score the prime of Mcdavid's career. We already know that Draisaitl is the better goal scorer, its just that since Connor Mcdavid is more flashy he looks like he is better. Again I don't really believe that this is true, but what if it is.

Because he just about literally had the same amount of points as draisaitl (with 109) BUT, Crosby played 22 games that season. That. Is Carrying the team. Connor was out for total of 7 games. Drat got a whopping 35 points when McDavid wasn’t out there with him. Mack, 40 more than the next player on his team, which as you said WAS THE WHOLE REASON TAYLOR HALL WON IT OVER HIM. I thought Hughes had done enough to win the Calder by a hair in the end, would have given Torts a slight nod over Cassidy, and awarded MacKinnon the Hart, again just by a hair, but overall I'm satisfied with who won what and I think the Norris win is more praise for Josi than it is a put down of Carlson. Carlson got off to an Orr-ish, Coffey-ish, 2018-19 Rielly-ish offensive start to the season, but I think Josi's been arguably the best all-around defenceman in the NHL for the past few years.

nilocblue mostly on his own line. I wouldn’t say 35/110 points is most. Connor was on the ice for 75 of Leon’s Points. Yes he had a great year but the thing for me is, Mackinnon and Panarin are both the best player and most valuable to their team. Draisaitl plays WITH not the best player on the team, the hands down best player in the world. That seems like an unfair advantage over the other two who actually have to be the best on the team. Like if McDavid doesn’t miss games which like it was seven, rantanen was out like 28? Landeskog, 16. And they were out at the same time and he just carried the team. And rangers, had no business making the play in round but Panarin was a beast. No one was as valuable to their team as him. He was doing that shit with Strome and we saw him in Edmonton. I don’t know how he got points with him. He’s just that good. Plus Panarin is actually effective 5 on 5 (yeah actually had more points than draisiatl there) Drat is really reliant on the power play where once again, McDavid is right there. It just drives me nuts for people saying, he did it on his own this year. He really didn’t. Didn’t even thank McDavid in both his acceptance speeches or talk abut the other nominees which was kinda brutal cause everyone else did, if he did, let me know I don’t remember him doing so. But oh well. I mean he can enjoy it for now cause he is obviously gonna spend the rest of his career playing second fiddle so, my as well enjoy it while it lasts.

Whatever, Josi can have his Norris and many more if he wants. Carlson won a better trophy, The Stanley Cup! I personally think all these trophies have lost their prestige.
