2020 Riese & Müller Superdelite GT High Speed Review
Independent review of the fantastic 8700€ Superdelite GT from Riese & Müller, fitted with the Rohloff electrical shifter and the high speed version of the 4th generation Bosch CX Performance motor. This bike fits two large batteries in the frame and can be categorized as a long range endurance bike or a very capable commuter ebike.

Great review! Thanks! Concerning the price, this bike at first seemed ridiculously expensive to me but it replaces a car and a car for 9000 Euro is cheap but will cost you a whole lot more than this bike will ever cost you. A car burns money and makes you fat, a bike burns fat and saves your money 😀

I've been commuting by bike for a few years now - I haven't got a R&M yet, but cycling saves me £200 per month on train fares - although I do have to spend on cycling clothes, tyres, chains etc every so often. It also saves me £50 per month on the gym. On that basis, this bike would pay for itself in 3 years, give or take. Also saving the planet a bit and all that shit.

A car have far more uses than a bike. Fat can be burned in many cheaper ways. Beside if you eat healthy in the first place fat will not be an issue. 😌

Great review ! Very clear and to-the-point. Based on your conclusions, I guess the GX upgrade with improved suspension (front & rear) makes sense. R&M have created a new level of bicycle experience
@MTBs
@MTBs 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think this particular bike is aimed at fast commuting mainly on asfalt. If gravel is the primary surface I would go for the GX package with more suited tyres and that extra 40 mm suspension would probably completely transform the riding experience. Take care!
@ecoworrier
@ecoworrier 3 жыл бұрын
Hmm. The dropper seat post and the extra suspension travel are sounding good now. Especially as I'm 115kg and 197cm. I will mostly ride roads and asphalt paths but I guess with the two batteries you dont worry too much about rolling resistance on the road and the tyre noise is probably less than the motor. If I dont like the knobbly GX tyres for roads I can just swap them out before a road trip. I will get the 25kmh version though. Thanks for the review.
@MTBs
@MTBs 3 жыл бұрын
I think on asfalt the std susp is good enough. Your weight will probably make the susp work better. I usually ride off-road so for me the GX would suit me better. But you should of course test yourself before buying. Good luck!
@cadriver2570
@cadriver2570 11 ай бұрын
Does the GX option improve the front suspension? I have noticed that ebikes don't take care of high frequency bumps as easily as non-ebikes. That could be the ones I've ridden, or the weight of the ebikes.

Thoroughly enjoyed your straight forward review style and the scenery of course. It’s helpful to know from your test ride experience any potential pitfalls with the functionality of this high end model as it helps with purchasing decisions. Am just waiting to check for any further upgrades from the next Eurobike before ordering. The S class analogy sticks in my mind now as I try to wrestle with the price. The knowledge helps that longer commutes are to enjoy emission free with no fuel receipts to collect. Thank you.

Thank you! The Superdelite surely is a step up from the competition. I think what differs this bike the most after some thinking is how robust and hassle free this bike is. if you can settle with an E class, there are other great bikes out there like the Moustache Samedi 27 Xroad FS 7 which is a much simpler design and does not have the Rohloff hub e t c, but it starts from around 4000€.

I'm currently waiting for my Charger3 GT Vario HS to ship to Seattle next month. When I first started looking at ebikes 2 months ago I laughed at the R&M price tag.... After finding what I wanted in an ebike, it looked like R&M was the only one offering the particular options (belt drive, great bosch motor, drive train that can with stand motor+human torque, partial suspension). It just so happens these options really bring the price tag up and severely limit the selection that's available. Definitely try riding one at a bike shop (or something with similar components). I don't think I'd ever be able to make such a purchase without test driving first.

That's a very comfortable commuter or explorer e-bike. Alas for just supporting 25 km/h it's too expensive and 45 km/h class got too many restrictions riding legal in all terrains. I think there are some lucky countries allowing support of 32 km/h in all terrains which seems to be perfect for such a bike.

Depends on the colour temp and how you grade the footage. I need the Gopro when riding, much easier than to use a phone (I got a Samsung S20 now), the Gopro has got a wide angle and great stabe. I also now use a Sony ZV-1 for the other stuff that does not involve riding the bikes. I find when filming on smartphones, there are always ways that I mess up the shot. The stabe doesn't work in all settings and weird focusing e t c. Too random for me so far and too little dynamic range. But I am sure that one day I can ditch my ZV-1 and use a phone instead.

Thanks a lot for the comprehensive review. Excellent job. That’s the type of review I was hoping for, informative and hitting a lot of very relevant points, e.g. components, ride feel, range, the good and the bad. I’ve been eyeing this exact bike for a bit over a year now. To me, it checks almost all the boxes. The one challenge for taking the plunge is primarily the price. So, you’ve had it for a while now, apparently. Would you buy it again? Or would you opt for something else? Have you upgraded any components? Have you done any long touring on it yet? Thanks in advance. (Liked and subscribed!)
@MTBs
@MTBs 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words and the sub! This is not my own bike, I only borrowed it for a few days to do this review. I am more into MTB so if I would get the MTB version of this bike if I was going to buy it, or at least the GX version (If I rememeber it correctly). I don't want to be limited to only tarmac and gravel. I don't think I would upgrade an expensive bike like this, I would probably buy the right version from the start, in the end that is better use of money since forks e t c are more expensive to buy separately. I could live with the brakes, they are good enough. But I was a bit disappointed buy the fork. It worked ok on tarmac, but not so well when it gets a bit rougher. If I was to upgrade, I would probably upgrade to a better fork, like a RS Lyric at least and then I would have the option to easily change to 200 or 220 mm rotors in the front without having to use an adapter. This bike is all about reliability, sturdiness speed and range. Personally I am looking for playful eMTBs instead, like the Specialized Turbo Levo SL but that is an entierly different concept. Cheers! //Olof PS. A dropper too!

Really nice work on this review. I have been hunting around for an unbiased review of the Delight and this was very informative(even if it is the super version). I have subscribed to your channel! One question, do you think the delight version of this bike with the suspension upgrades would be suitable for trail use with tree roots and rocks? I had been considering a mtn bike but they are all speed limited where I can use the hs version of the delight for off road and commuting. Would love to hear your opinion.
@MTBs
@MTBs 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul and thanks for the sub! You have got number 397. 😆 I think it would be ok for occasional off road use, but it is miles apart from a proper MTB such as this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/faDNZnSGmsuBmtE I have not ridden the GX version, and I don't remember what fork it has got. If it is the Fox 34 I would say it is not enough on a heavy bike such as this. The Fox 36 would be a better match (have tested both versions). But in the end I highly doubt it would be any fun to ride as a MTB on other stuff than fire roads and smooth tracks. It shouldn't be confused with a proper MTB, it would be more of a "sightseeing" or adventure bike. There is also a mountain bike version of the delight with beefier components. That bike would probably handle roots and rocks better. On paper I think the Delight Mountain is more of an adventure bike for big days out. If you want to get airborne you should look for something else, but there is nothing wrong with a planted bike. Just different styles. I think it is difficult to combine a good commuter bike with a fun MTB to be honest. I don't know how long your commute is or what your trails look like. Is it the 45 km/h version you are after and is it 95% commute and 5% off road mostly on fire roads - sure it would be a good match. Enduro trails - no chance. Cheers! //Olof PS. A lot of guess work from my side here, you should really test the bike in person before forking out that kind of money. It is nothing like experiencing a bike yourself.

Well done 1st review. Would have been great, if you had also mentioned the drink bottle design for this bike though. Personally, I wished Germany, where I live, would treat S-Pedelecs less as an annoyance by law. You are not allowed to do most things your are allowed to do with a Pedelec or generally any other regular Bicycle; it's essentially treated as if it was a ICE powered Motorbike and you cannot use bike lanes and have to ride on the country road (where cars come with over 100kph from behind), even though there is a perfectly fine bike lane next to the road. If S-Pedelecs would not be treated so badly in Germany, I would probably get one and be able to cut significant use of public transport off of my commute.
@MTBs
@MTBs 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe and thanks! Did mention the clever bottle holder solution briefly, but that was probably easy to miss. But I really liked the idea of having 2 bottle holders within easy reach. I am not sure how 45 km/h bikes are treated here in Spain, if they are allowed in bike lanes or not. I am from Sweden and I think it is the same thing as in Germany there - they are not allowed in bike lanes. In general I think there should be more development of infrastructre around bike and pedelec alternatives, especially in warmer countries where it is possible/easy to bike all year round. Take care! //Olof

It's the same in the UK. You technically have to have number plates, insurance, motor vehicle tax disc and a motorcycle helmet. After 3 years your bike will need an MOT or road-worthiness test. So most people, I'm guessing (cough, not me), just take the risk that the police aren't going to know the difference between this and a standard e-bike. You just need to make damn sure you don't run into anyone, or blast past the cops doing 30mph.

I have this bike with the same specs. The bike is awesome. Great range, high quality components. However, the specific HS parts like claxon, licence plate are clumsy and not well designed. Eg the power cable of the claxon is ripped of by the water bottle the first time you steer left/right. The licence plate rattles like crazy.

Hi and thanks for your input! Didn't hear any rattle from the license plate on this particular bike, but maybe you are right that these parts are an afterthought.

Bike Adventures yeah it seems this bike is designed as a low speed bike and then some HS parts were bolted on without much engineering effort.

Great video, how easy is it to maintain 45km per hour? The motor does have a 500 watt right?
@MTBs
@MTBs 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I don't think it is 500 W, it is the same torque (85 Nm) as the "normal" CX Performance so my guess is that it still is 250 W continous power. It is definitely punchy enough to propel any bike up to 45 km/h. On the flats it is easy to maintain 45 km/h, but in inclines you need to shift down a gear or two. Slightly slower in other words. Cheers!

Thanks for this great review. I have a question. I would like to know if you have ridden this bike without the battery. Pedal power only. Is this possible/comfortable given the bike is so heavy. I live in Australia and would like - in the future - to fly my bike legally (without battery) to Europe and the US - renting batteries when I am in country. Thank you.
@MTBs
@MTBs 4 жыл бұрын
Ahh, Australia! What memories! I left a Ford Falcon at Bondi Beach in -94. If it's still there its yours! 😆 I tried to pedal it without assist for a short while and I think you can do it for a few km if you run out of batteries, but it is not fun in any sense. In my case I still had the batteries in so the bike weighed the full 32 kg. Maybe without the batteries it is a little bit easier. I felt that even in eco mode it was a bit heavy, eco mode is only good for slow cruising in my opinion if you are not looking for doing some proper workout. So in short, pedal power only could be done as a last resort, but only for shorter distances if you are not very fit of course. Good luck on your future adventures!

Thanks for that - I shall check out Bondi next time! There are still a lot of old Falcons on our roads! I am thinking of a Focus eMTB at the moment - the Jarifa hard tail. The cost of the RandM, along with little dealer support (I imagine getting replacements for a Ford Falcon in Spain may not be so easy...)s going to take me more mainstream. Great clip by the way

Late answer but might help, with the gen4 engine its very doable based on facts (as in i tracked the amount of watts i as a human put in) I tested 'tour' mode at 25km/h and had to put in 110watts of human power. Turning the support of on the same road/moment if i put in 110watts i went 17km/h. So for normal biking in the netherland 16km/h is avg and also the 110watts is not weird for that speed. So if you loose power just assume you will drop back in speed mostly which is fine if needed. In fact since the avg of none ebike here is 16km/h you can and i have turned support of when riding relaxed with someone else.

I have this bike now for 2 months. I have lots of problems until now. 625 Bosch battery was dead and replaced under warranty. Now my bike does not work because of a 550 error. Dealer is not able to find the problem yet. I am not very impressed by the service and quality of this bike. The components are top not h but the electronics cause lots of problems.

Ouch, sorry to hear about your problems! Didn't think Bosch still had those issues any longer... All standard equipment on the bike and no extra lights or anything? I think, since it is an expensive premium bike and that R&M has got a reputation (especially with reliability and quality) to think of, you should claim a new bike all together if they cannot solve your problems.

The cause of the error 550 was an internal cable of the front light which was damaged. Crazy this can happen on a new €9000 bik after 500km. I am not happy with the Riese Müller quality so far
