This bike has personality. It’s not as comfy as a T120, but it feels so much lighter to move and ride around and people surprisingly say it’s better looking. A rider’s bike, it has everything you need if you want to keep it all minimal. Perhaps a T120 might be more comfy for a longer tour, but for interest and fun this bike is never going to be boring. Clean air for a naked bike so very little buffeting. Ok to take a pillion but you may want more frequent stops. Lots of fun, it’s how biking is meant to be.

I rode mine from London to Somerset recently, using the M3/A303. I have a Dart screen fitted and tbh am not sure it provided much wind relief. The ergonomics were fine, and on the upside staying below 75 helps keep the license clean! As you say, power is never an issue on this bike. I've fitted a booster plug and have finally received a throttle spacer kit, which by all accounts is one of the best mods to do. Looking forward to some French miles when lockdown ends!

I got this as my first big bike as a newbie middle aged rider. I wondered if it would be "too much" for a newbie, in fact it's really easy to ride as a newbie , so long as you're easy with the throttle. As you mention all that gear changing, this thing can almost be considered a "semi automatic" , well it can be ridden at most normal speeds in second , third or fourth ! Being a newbie, I've often forgotten to change down. I've pulled away in third and sometimes fourth gear ! Riding a 125cc bike, apart from pushing it around the garden, is hard work compared to this . Rain mode is good for when taking pillions, sport mode you do get used to the snatchiness . My MPG is around 55 ( mainly country lanes, and 60 limit A roads), but I don't ride like the journo test riders. So I reckon you can get up to 150 miles out of a tank before the orange light of doom comes on. Although the digital range to empty , I find about 25 miles pessimistic. That's probably a good thing, because you don't really want to run out of petrol ! My major moans is the fuel tank could be a couple of litres bigger, I'd like a slightly higher seat height ( I'm 5 foot 11 inches ), the lug on the side stand is a bit difficult to get to and Triumph's range of luggage options is pretty useless ( Although TEC bike parts do make a rear rack, which I've yet to fit to my bike ! ) I also got a second hand Street Triple S 660cc A2 , had it derestricted to 94 BHP. So similar peak power to this. I find the Striple a bit more "flickable", and I reckon in a race around twisties against myself, I could probably ride a little bit quicker on the Striple. What I do find when I get on the striple , is I often stall it, because I've got used to the Speed Twin's torque, and if I do forget to change down on the Striple , pulling away at junctions is much more hairy, lots of clutch slipping required ! If I could only have one bike, I'd keep the Speed Twin over the Striple, the Speed Twin looks prettier to my eyes and I love it's character. I do like the Striple, it's quite a different bike, the lighter weight, revy nature and engine note. The pair compliment one another well. Classic and modern. So hopefully I will be able to keep both of them !

Excellent review, covered all points quickly and succinctly. I’ve not ridden a Speed Twin but own a 2020 T120 Diamond and perhaps this will be my next procurement. I’m also waiting for an RS version, and if released praying its not with spoked wheels, beautiful it’s true, but a cosmetic maintenance nightmare and I prefer lighter alloys. How is the slow speed handling on this? I find my Thruxton 900 has heavily loaded forks (instruments, light etc) and you really have to man handle it at very slow speeds or pushing it around for parking/getting in/out of the garage compared to other bikes I've had.
@UncleWally34 жыл бұрын
The nonadjustable front suspension gives pause; what’s it like on rubbish roads? Also, what’s the projected cost of ownership? Was recently riding with my buddy on his Thruxton R and while it’s a beauty, the electrics were giving him some issues and like most, it “required” the decat to make the engine breathe and sound like it was having fun. Anyway, looking forward to your more lengthy review.

You must try "Sport" mode along those beautiful open A roads. You'll notice the difference straight away - the bike becomes a total scream. For those of us who are of a certain age, we have trouble assimilating a 30" inside leg measurement with an 807 mm seat height - 31¾" would help. In the same vein, a fuel tank of 14.5 litres equates to 3 imperial gallons, which means that if you achieve 50 mpg, then a half-wit could work out the range (150 miles), which is next to impossible if you mix and match imperial and metric. Just call me an old duffer.

Well not surprising when you look how overpriced, over complicated and heavy their bikes are , also made in Thailand which is not something that bothers me personally but they still pretend to be British which must put a few people off . I’d really like this particular bike but they cost about $22,000 NZD here in New Zealand which doesn’t compare well with a lot of similar bikes . I’ll probably buy an MT 07 Yamaha instead which are only $12,710 and are simple,light and really fun to ride I can see why people are buying the Royal Enfields which are simple , light and amazing good value at NZD $10,300 but I don’t like the look of them personally

@@noelchignell1048 Those are crazy prices. Surely that's an import tax issue? They aren't that expensive in many other countries around the world. Triumph have many amazing bikes, I do think they need to offer some simple models to compete with the likes of Royal Enfield though. Perhaps an A2 friendly Street Twin.

@@noelchignell1048 Totally agree Noel ,the Royal Enfields got the pricing spot on .Believe they have plans for 14 new models. Plus the dealer service pricing for Triumphs astronomical. Go steady.

EnglishBikerDan these are New Zealand Dollar prices which is about $0.60 US , now import duty other than 15% Goods and Services tax on everything here.

For classic looks get a new re650 for half the price than use the other half to buy a used superbike if you are a speed freak....

Interceptor 650 looks nice.

The fit and finish on the R.E Interceptor is no where near as nice as the Triumph. They corrode quickly too.
