Hi from Green Bay Wisconsin USA!!!! Go Packers!! Merry Christmas 2020A.D. We WON last weekend against tennessee titans at 40 to 14 that is just like the Big Boy 4-8-8-4, plus the number of minutes in the day at 24 hours times(x) 60 minutes; also plus our local A.M. radio station, WNFL 1440. Neato!! Your success with the T-1 Project 5550, has inspired me to start my own new steamer project, focused here on Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota, with the Milwaukee Road 1935 HIAWATHA class A 4-4-2 Atlantic that was designed to run at 100 MPH, and had the streamlined jacket that was inspired by the Art Deco Period. Hiawatha has 84" diameter drivers. Also, it will be redesigned with modern components with a welded boiler, that had a modern oil fired firebox to maximize steam production with improved water circulation so that it will be a high pressure steam generator rather than the traditionally boiler, plus we have researched the different experimental boilers of the past to determine why they were not successful. It would be possible to redesign the N.E.W. Hiawatha No.7 with the Square Belpaire

Although I'm NOT a PRR T1 man. Give me a E class, K4, or M1 any day! I'm very glad and pleased that this project has succeeded to the level it has. I think its really great that there are some people that have supported this so successfully and generously. When I first heard of this I figured it would NOT get much off the ground and would linger like PRR Projects 35 & 39 have for over 50 years. So a big congratulations to all those involved and I hope someone somewhere will let you run it! It will be America's first new build locomotive which compared to the UK is nothing but a huge accomplishment here.
@steamgent45924 жыл бұрын
@Micah the Nerd Saxophonist the T-1 is no match for PRR standard locomotive designs. PRR locos were sure footed with excellent rates of adhesion for steam. This meant fast startups and good grade climbing qualities. The T1 was slippery as all getout took forever to get to top speed and wasn't worth a lick on a hill. This is also why every PRR engineman I ever knew DESPISED them. Alos why they wound up spending their lives on Lines West because they were a failure by PRR lines East standards. That said this group has now come a long way since my original comment. I think they will actually reach their goal. Which at the time with how support for steam restorations has struggled for decades now I figured would just linger and die being incomplete just like Projects 35 & 39 have since the 1960s & 1361 has for about half that time. Where they will actually get to run it who knows. But now I wish them luck and continued success in their venture and I've already said this elsewhere on one of their more recent videos.

@Jaidyn2284 жыл бұрын
You know what happened with the C&O 614? Back then the prices of foreign oil let alone any oil was expensive. So 614 hauled coal trains and had done experiments on those runs with scientific gear and equipment. @Matthew Pastrikos there are some steam engines that are powered by oil to improve range. So if a steam engine uses oil for fuel it’s not a diesel cause a steam engine doesn’t have a motor. No mater what fuel a steam engine uses either coal oil or wood, it provides heat for the water in the boiler then the heat makes the water turn into steam.

Why are you guys trying to aim to beat Mallard's record? It's kinda cheating due to the fact we have modern technology to build an engine meaning less imperfections and higher quality rails than what they had in the 30s (some of what mallard ran on was from the 1910s) meaning a record is easier to get. It's a part of her identity by this point aswell. Taking away that is like taking a characteristic from somebodies personality.
@alzinn82314 жыл бұрын
The official record is by Mallard in 1938 - 126.1 MPH, going downhill, which was immediately followed by a catastrophic breakdown. The original T-1's exceeded that in service so many times, it became boring. They just never bothered to certify the times - something that was not supported by PRR management. If the new T1 can break the record and do it on level track, why not? Records are made to be broken and there is nothing sacred about Mallard's record!
@Spud6074 жыл бұрын
@@alzinn8231 if they were able to do it they would have proven it. Mallard's record is kinda sacred as it was the last in a battle between the LMS and the LNER that still stands to this day and taking that away is like destroying a museum piece. Yes, you can talk about it and the story is still there but the record will be gone. Its like replacing her valve gear whch is still the orignal that was repaired after her run. Thats why she only ran for a few months in tge 80s. It was to preserve her valve gear and all her other bits. And i'm not trying to be biased here personally I do prefer the LMS Princess Royals over the A4s and i'm not Britush either but even still i think that the record should be left alone.
@alzinn82314 жыл бұрын
@@Spud607 The T-1's speedometers read to 130 mph. That the engineers often pegged them often is confirmed by the accounts of numerous Fort Wayne Division engineers. They never bothered to certify a record because PRR management was totally hostile to doing so, as they had much more pressing issues to worry about in the immediate post-war era. If you think that Mallard's record is somehow sacred, you have a right to your opinion, but I remind you that it specifically states in the T-1 Trust's mission statement that one of the purposes of the project is to establish a new record for steam. If they succeed in completing the engine and obtain the room to run it, I assure you, the record will fall.
@Spud6074 жыл бұрын
@@alzinn8231 yeah i know they will. Thats my point. If somebody built a brand new A4 i have no doubt in my mind it could do 130mph. Personally (bear in mind that this is my opinion and everbody is entitled to their own opinion 🙃🙃) I think with modern technology unavailable in the 30s would allow an A4 to surpass 130 or even 135 mph as modern technology can allow for that to happen (although a new A4 won't be built since we have 6 of them still in existance). Also, the speedometer of a BR Britannia reads to 160mph but I highly doubt a Brit would make it past 115. And as for drivers testimonies, the driver of City of Truro cllaimed tge engine reached 102.2mph on a lightly loaded mail train but that wasn't sufficient evidence. And as for the spedometers, i can't find any evidence to suggest they dud reach such a speed. If you can link me an image or somthing please do. Although i am personally against the T1 record i'm still interested in steam locomotive history of all kinds. 🙃
@Spud6074 жыл бұрын
@Matthew Pastrikos Why does it matter though? Even if the T1 does beat Mallard, the former will still be the top as far as im concerned. Speed isn't everything. To me the GNR(I) V class no. 85 "Merlin" is the best in the world and she won't do more than 80mph. In fact if the T-1 does beat the record (and bear in mind this is my own opinion) i'd dislike the T-1 more than I already do. Mallard is far from my favourite engine but I think the record should stay with her.
