Glad to see this is still going strong. Its been awhile since i checked in on this. Cool to see my CAD work on screen (the solidworks model of the original drawings). There are actually three seperate giant drawings for the frame. 1 for the full length, and 1 for each set of cylinders. Each was a similar amount of work to get through with the total around 4-5 hundred hours as stated. Single solidworks part file was hundreds of megabytes. Can't wait to ride.

I may not be the same avid Railroad Enthusiast I once was as a kid well over 15 years ago, but even now at age 24 if there's one thing I care about anything with trains, it's this and that I hope someday this project is successful complete in my lifetime and I'll be able to ride on a train it pulls someday. There's something about machines that have always fascinated me. That started with Steam Locomotives. And Die-cast Battery powered Lionel Toy Trains and stories on books and audio cassettes from the earliest and purest childhood memories.

17:00 the primary feature of a Lempor is a massive reduction in cylinder back pressure, the increased draft is a bonus. I'm not sure there's any single thing that can be done a locomotive that would have a greater improvement in efficiency and power over a Lempor.

14:27, I see the feedwater heater is being deleted? My understanding is that 614 didn't run nearly as well without a feedwater heater, and that it was harder on the boiler. Is there any way you all can elaborate on why this might be incorrect?
@TheT1Trust12 күн бұрын
The 614 ran fine with a 22 car train at 80mph upgrade on Port Jarvis trips in the mid 90's. There is zero concern about how it will operate. We know that maintenance will be much less with 2 injectors
@MrRailroadrunner11 күн бұрын
@@TheT1Trust My understanding is still that this was much harder on the boiler, and harder to fire.... I understand it did 80mph in the 90's.... (And got itself removed from NJ Transit in the process). If this proves to be an issue is there a provision to add the feedwater heater?

Depending on how this goes, this may set the template on how to restore other extinct Steam Locomotives. No doubt the lessons learned from a first rebuild can lead to potential cost reductions for another future rebuild and how to do things better. For now it’s getting done, albeit slowly.
