The arrival of the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E marks a seismic shift for the auto industry at large, and yet it’s easy to get caught up in the semantics of it all. It marks the first time a mainstream automaker has delivered an electric vehicle that looks cool instead of quirky, and yet some of the most passionate fans of Ford’s fabled pony car are concerned that it somehow sullies the Mustang name - as if there weren’t some real stinkers in the past. Even so, it begs the question: does it even matter what it’s called? AutoTrader.ca Road Test Editor Dan Ilika puts Ford's electric SUV through its paces to see if it's worthy of the name it's been charged with - and if that really matters at all.

I agree with you 100% . I got my Mach E in mid March, drive it to FL & back home from NH the whole month of May. Had no issues finding fast chargers. It was a pleasant trip. I have the same car as you only it's red w black trim. My gripes are the same as yours, front seats not ventilated, back seats not heated, a cover for the overhead window & controls for AC/defrost etc. Over all, This car is 100% electric, vegan & my 100% charge is up to 315 miles! Best investment I have ever made. I LOVE my Ford Mustang Mach E! Thank you for the review!!!

Great review! The Select model charges max 110 KwH I think, where as the Premium and above can charge up to 150 KwH

Pro Tip: If you have your keys locked in the car or in a bag in the trunk and you are trying to use your phone as a key to open the door, it won’t work. If two people who both have iPhones that are set as a phone to key, may confuse the system profile. I have had zero issues with my phone as a key. The only time I had an issue was when my purse was in the trunk and my keys were in their. I like that Ford gives you the option to lock your key in the car or have your car running if you run in somewhere quickly. You will need to use the door panel to lock and unlock your car at that point.

Personally I find the handling of the Mach-E quite spongy and was expecting more, especially vs the Model 3 Standard Range Plus. Incentives are $5k less in BC which also makes it quite pricy still. Ford dealers also won't budge from the MSRP. Those looking to buy should opt for the AWD version of the 68 KwH or above battery for the 428+ lb-ft torque. The RWD 68 KwH battery has 100 less torque and driving back to back it's definitely noticable. Well worth the small up charge plus you're getting AWD too. I would say the 'torque feel' of the 428 lb-ft AWD feels the same as the Model 3 Standard plus RWD most likely due to the lower weight of the Model 3. While the Mach-E 68 KwH RWD feels slower and not as responsive. All in all I find the Model 3 to still be more fun to drive which makes me sad since I'm a Ford guy lol. I don't own either one of these vehicles so just my unbiased view.

*great review Dan👍👍, one question so you charged from 39% to 80% and it cost you $9.50 CAD , and then your range went up to 350km , so $9.50 is the cost to drive/add 174km to your range ??, assuming total range 100% =434km* thanks

Thanks for the kind words! I’d have to say yes *in theory* here. Since I didn’t run the battery down completely I can’t say definitively; however, the official estimate for the version I tested - 88-kWh battery and dual-motor AWD - is 435 km, which seems accurate based on my cumulative testing. Thanks for watching!

@@donnadelcore1976 obviously... Myself, I'm a slim 6'1", and my Escape seat is maxxed out rear ward, and the steering wheel is nowhere near like it is in this thing. Lol Just seems weird. Maybe this guy is all torso and no legs. Lol

To be honest I don't think the Mach E shouldn't count as a Mustang. Leave the Electric vehicles for family car manufacturers such as, Hyundai, Honda, Nissan ect. i'd just leave the Muscle cars alone and wouldn't change them at all. It kind of breaks my heart that vehicles are changing. But I get it, its better for the world because of pollution. :/

I always wanted a Mustang, they run in my family. But it wasn't a Family car for 6 people! When they introduced this Mustang I immediately ordered one. After driving it, it IS a Mustang! Especially in unbridled mode. I am sorry you feel this way but I LOVE it!!

@Donna Del Core - nice try trying to justify wasting your money. It's not a Mustang, It's not a sports car. Not a stitch of performance thinking it it. It's a small family hatchback.

So you expect me to sit at a rest stop for a hour to basically get ⛽? Ummm. Nooooooo. If rather have a hybrid or hydrogen car. Hydrogen cars only take 5 mins to fill. But, I don't understand why all these cars are like this. There's magnetic engines that don't need fuel or recharging. So wtf is with this full electric hour to ten hours at home recharging cars?
