Honda returns its 450cc dual sport to its US model lineup for 2021. Equipped with a new model name, to better align it with its R-spec CRF motocross and off-road racing motorcycles, the 2021 CRF450RL is Big Red’s bike of choice for riders who want to see it all at the upright Renthal handlebar of a dirt bike. In this MC Commute video review we talk about what it’s like to ride on and off-road, as well as during night rides.

@@nigelwolfe6150 I like motorcycles and mr. Waheed's reviews are typically well made and narrated. Just because dualsports don't appeal that much for me, doesn't mean I don't like an expert's opinion on one of the genre's most well known models. Lawn mowers are definitely not my thing, but it is good to know my comment sent you on a philosophical trip. Cheers

We don't have to give Honda props for making a $10k underpowered 450 with 1k oil changes and 1800 mile valve checks. It costs more and makes less power than a DRZ400 that hasn't been changed in two decades, and is apparently much less reliable. Honda can shove it, this is a pathetic effort.

I own a 2019 CRF450L. It's a great bike. Needs a little tweaking to make it better. Nobody leaves these bike stock anyways. Sounds like for 2021 it still has some fueling issues. Easy fix. Just do a Vortex ECU and you're done. Those have a map now for the stock pipe if you want to leave it that way. I did a Yoshi on mine. Sounds much better, runs great, and probably got another 6-7 horsepower. It rips. Honda put some cheap hand deflectors on these new ones, but I did Zeta handguards from SRmoto and those work great. Also did a Moose skid plate, 12oClockLabs fender eliminator and a few other things. The bike is awesome. It doesn't have the maintenance intervals of a 250L, but it's still not bad, and it's WAY more fun than my 250L was. I'm doing oil changes between 600 and 1000 miles, and first valve check was fine. These bikes are a blast!

If you want a dual sport for long , multi-day rides and can carry heavier luggage, go with the Honda. The reinforced subframe makes it possible for bigger luggage options in the rear vs the KTM. Your comments are very accurate. Can I just point out for readers that Honda can supply a 55HP road version. Its called the CRF 450RX and has lights , indicators, horn and street certification- but the full fat motor. Why did I buy it ? Well its 30 kg lighter than the 450 L….. so even with a Moscow Moto type Reckless throw over, you can do overnight camp trips. Love your channel, best wishes.

@waltermitty7452 3 жыл бұрын
@@gothops154 Yup. I never was a digital dash guy, I really thought they were out of place on a Dual Sport bike. But after having the 250L (mine is a 2019) I am a total convert. I love it. Easy to read, tons of info well mapped out, etc. Now analog speedo and tach look ancient to me. And yes, the 300L dash looks even a bit nicer. Gear indicator, cleaner look, and you can even set up a shift light if you want. It will be tempting to get one, but I just don't know if a 300 is enough of a jump for me as I finally have my 250L all dialed in for me. Now if Honda came out with a true 450L I would jump on it. Same for the XR650L if they did to that what Kawy just did with their KLR. If Honda took the XR650L, slapped on EFI, liquid cooling, and a 300L type dash I would buy one tonight.

@@granttaute4516 Maybe keep hoping and praying for a "Halfrica Twin"? While I would prefer a thumper as both of us have described above, maybe they will come out with a 500CC or 650CC AT that offers both a basic version and tech loaded version. The current AT at 1100 CCs is way too heavy and has way too many bells and whistles for me. If they won't give us a modern middleweight thumber, maybe they will give us a T7 competitor?

Nice Review. My summery is: Love my CRF450L . Only downsides for me is small fuel tank ( have fuelbottles on my nelsen rigg saddlebags ), uncomfortable seat ( changed to seat concepts XL ), short oil/filter change ( will do myself in future), ca 25HP in Europe ( this is not enough).payed 7500,- Euro in Germany. This is 1500,- more than the CRF250 rally. For me it is worth the extra costs.workmanship is extraordinary good.

Looks like Honda did NOT fix the stalling issue with this 2021 update. To be fair, these do improve with some miles. Mine (2019) doesn't stall nearly as often as when it was brand new. I'm about to install a flywheel weight which will help even more. These are great bikes that do need a little fiddling, but should last a bit longer than those orange bikes (which also is what makes them better bikes in the dirt). Not bashing KTM, just a different design philosophy.

I read in a few places if you ride the 450RL like an adventure bike (mostly on the street) and not racing, the service intervals increase a LOT based on oil analysis and valve checks. The servicing is also fast and easy (near 5 mins) like on most dirt bikes.

I have done a good bit of research before buying the bike and I haven't heard any bad things about the newest gen of the Husky 701/KTM 690's outside of the clutch slave cylinder. The motor itself is based on the street bike so that should be much less finicky then a dirt bike motor in general. The Husky has a higher weight, but also has 74hp and maintance is basically what you would do on a street bike. Nothing else on the market like it really.

He’s a horrible rider. He blows the meaning of safe lane splitting right out of the water, just asking to get hit. He can’t expect people to know where the hell he is flitting through traffic that way. Once traffic is moving, he’s not supposed to slice through the cars especially IN an intersection. When traffic is moving normally, he isn’t filtering, he’s just squidding. Godawful riding habits he shows.

Would it make you more nervous if you could not split lanes, stopped behind a lane of cars, while some teen while looking down at their phone, choosing not to stop sandwiches you between them and the car in front? Splitting lanes allows you to go to front of line thus saving lives.

The CRF450L is in a different league. Notice the MX riding? A 300L will bottom out on those jumps. The 450RL is also a lot lighter than the smaller 286cc 300L. The 300L and most dual-sports are street bikes with street engines and tall legs. The KTM EXC is more like the 450RL.
