Thanks for this video, it contained a lot of good info. At 8:42 you said you'd be hesitant to take your bike on long rides. Don't be ridiculous, you should have no fear. Americans believe they need large engines to take long trips, but people in other countries make long trips with small displacement engines. For example, I now live in Viet Nam and people often travel between Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Sai Gon) and Ha Noi (over 1,000 miles) on a 100cc moped.

Hi Jake, just watched your video and found it very useful. I have just ordered a Honda Rebel 500 special edition today which will get here sometime in July in South Australia. I am a 5 foot 1/2 inch 63 yo woman getting back into motorcycling after a decade or three, and it is one of the few bikes I can plant my short legs onto the ground with. Thanks and cheers, Sue.

A rebel 750 would be a great compromise. Same aesthetic as the 500 with the chonky front tire and overall size just with a bit more potent engine squeezed in to bridge the gap between the 500 and 1100. I wish more people got into cruisers as they're imo the best category for general bike use... comfy, not too thirsty and wont tear your arms off everytime you get on the throttle a bit.

Got my license in the fall of '23 and bought my Rebel 500 the day of. I'm a heavy set guy with (exactly) average height, and I wouldn't say my weight is any issue on this beautiful machine. I will say that I wish that the stock footpegs were just an inch or two lower, or positioned a little further forward, as my knees can get a little stiff and uncomfortable on longer rides. I think what I like the most about the Rebel 500 is how forgiving it is for a new rider like myself in terms of friction zone on the clutch, and uphill starts. And it's also just a really fun bike to drive! The fact that it also looks really great is a fantastic bonus. Would absolutely recommend this bike to any new rider, especially if you wanna ride a cruiser. I'm dreaming of upgrading to an Indian Scout in the long term, but like yourself, I could see myself hanging onto this bike regardless since it's such a fun and sweet bike.

I'm a beginner biker. My Honda Ruckus scooter got stolen, so I purchased a NAVI to replace it but had to get my endorsement for the NAVI. Never thought I would want anything bigger than a scooter until I took the class and all the bikes were 250cc and bigger. It felt amazing and now I'm hooked. I almost got the Rebel 300 but everybody says I'll outgrow it fast, so I put a down payment on a new Rebel 500 last month. Kinda late Christmas present. It's on order and just got word from the dealer that it has shipped and will arrive within the month. Can't wait but I'm a little nervous that it might be too big for a beginner. This was a great video and helped build my confidence and made me feel good about my purchase. I'm 5'8" about 150 lbs. I really like a honda rebel. I'm a 34 year dude who always wanted a bike, but I don't know how, so I will have to get into a class. Now, all my friends who own bikes say to avoid 300, even if just for commute as I will outgrow in a month and are slow. To start with a 500 or 700 and to be honest, the main reason is for me to commute as gas prices here in SoCal is $6.50 and I have to get 1 hour early to work just to find parking and motorcycle parking is right in front, so I'll 2/3 on gas and 1 hour of my day. Second reason is that I love the open freedom feeling and here in SoCal I hardly rains and the coldest it gets is like 40°. A second bike I love is the Husqvarna Svipilen that comes like with a 380cc engine and is sort of light offroady which I like and is cheaper. Sadly here in SoCal there's is a shortage of bikes. Dealers have crazy mark ups and the few that don't, just don't have inventory and in Craigslist so far I've found a 2019 rebel 300 for $4,400 and some old KTMs, or scooters. By the way, I'm 6'1 and 250 pounds.

I'm gonna sound d... with my comment but help me out here. So I recently purchased 2023 Rebel 500SE and I'm having tiny bit of trouble meshing the gears. Yep, I'm a complete noob (my first bike). I was trying to watch you upshift and kind of noticed 3rd gear in 30mph ,4th in 40's and so on. I'm definitely not smooth yet. Any advice how to improve?
@ItsJustJakeYT Жыл бұрын
More seat time is the best way honestly. Every bike is different and every rider is different. Also getting a louder exhaust helps alot with hearing how high you are in the gear instead of just feeling the vibration of the bike.

I'm roughly 6'0-6'1 and have legs a little on the shorter side. I'm looking at getting my first motorcycle here in the near future. I've sat on an iron 883, it's too small by a good margin. The Yamaha bolt felt right and the Kawasaki Vulcan s felt right but slightly small, although it could just be due to the stock handlebars. Is the rebel 500 similar to any of these bikes in terms of physical size?
@ItsJustJakeYT2 жыл бұрын
I would say the rebel is on par with the 883 size wise. Depending on Bar setup

I have the same length as you. I have driven 550 km on my new rebel 2022. It is really amazing and the bike height is perfect

Hey so I'm hoping to get the rebel as my first bike ever, would you recommend getting the automatic version or learn the manual??
@ItsJustJakeYT3 жыл бұрын
The automatics only came in the 1100cc models if thats what your implying too?. And personally would take the manual over the auto anyday👍🏼
@splroska3 жыл бұрын
@@ItsJustJakeYT cool good to hear you opinion on it!
@AM-cz4fd3 жыл бұрын
Definitely go for the manual. It's so fun and it's really easy to shift on this bike. It has a slipper clutch which is awesome. I've had mine for 3 months and it's the best bike I've ever had. A real headturner. Highly recommend the S model over original 🤘🏼
@splroska3 жыл бұрын
@@AM-cz4fd that's a relief bc my biggest fear is messing up the gears all the time😂
@AM-cz4fd3 жыл бұрын
@@splroska have no fear buddy, the gear changes on this bike are the easiest I have ever experienced on every bike I have tried. All you need is a nice light push with your foot and it slides into next gear really nicely, like butter, and it's a nice firm *click* so you can really feel it has shifted into the gear. Nothing like a clunky Harley or other bikes, it's really smooth and refined. Same applies for downshifting. I should add I bought my special edition model brand new, if you are buying it used, just make sure it does shift easily, if it doesn't, then look for another one. Highly recommend buying brand new if you can, and highly recommend this bike, it's so much fun and everyone compliments me on it... The bike, not me 😬😂😜

Hi Jake - thank you for this video, it was very informative. I was wondering where you got those brown waffle grips? Also is there room for storage on the bike? Like your gym clothes or things for a 2-3 day trip. I'm studying for my permit and hope to get one come springtime. Thank you!

Q: Getting older (Not as strong) Is the bike easy to handle/hold up at stops? Thanks

Yes definitely, this was my first bike and was very easy to handle and put my feet down at stops without having to fight the weight.

What's the closest bike to this that has auto transmission. Would you recommend auto transmission on my first bike?

I would not recommend auto for a first bike. A manual bike is a very easy and important skill to learn

@@hectorohh that's great! Hope u love it. I have to say, It was alot forgiving with that tall first gear. I got up to just about 25mph without having to change to second in the speed test. It really saved me -one less thing to think about. But tbh, that is one hard seat! A week later, I'm still sore lol...
