I spent a month test driving midsize suvs. I decided to go with the Honda 2021 Passport. The main issue I had with all the other suvs I’d the motors. I don’t think they should be putting 4 cylinders in these mid suvs. I know they come with turbo but I’m not really into saving 2 or 3 miles in gas and running a 4 cylinder in it. A lot of the suvs did not offer a 6 cylinder like the cx9. The passport still offered the V tech 6 cylinder with 280 HP and 5000 pounds of towing. So the winner for me was the Passport. Have had it now for several months and it drives beautiful. I don’t know how this made his list. Maybe he was just comparing gas mileage. I guess ima little old school when it comes to engines but when the suv gets older I don’t know how these 4 cylinders are going to keep up with pulling all that weight. If anyone is looking for a midsize suv including a 3rd row seat I would highly recommend at least a 6 cylinder.

Yes sir, thanks for talking about the reliability. In so many reviews this topic is rarely touched, seems to me this is the most important topic before owning a vehicle...
@nhbountyhunter
@nhbountyhunter 3 жыл бұрын
He is quoting consumer reports (predicted) reliability. They get their info from... Consumers! Most consumers don't know, don't even care to learn about their vehicle. A car will score low because the consumer will bring it in for an issue (lets say lack of performance). With a simple test the dealer find that the customer is using 87 octane fuel. Sure the car will run just fine, but it will not have peak performance if it requires 91. Most turbo cars act this way (including the escape) you will lose about 10hp. The info is right in the manual and on the gas door. But people dont bother to read. So now the car has a tick against it in the unreliable category because the consumer is ignorant. Any new car you can buy these days will has faults but truly they are all reliable as each other. However they all suck as well. The trend towards computer controlled everything and over the top tech just make them all have more issues. But again it's every car make and model not just a few.
@lilymae4131
@lilymae4131 3 жыл бұрын
So true reliability is a bigger issue now more than ever before, since vehicles have become so expensive to repair. Even though he gets his information from Consume Reports, I find them to be a reliable source, with their only flaw being, that some problems like a wickedly bad transmission failure rate on a vehicle does not specify which transmission on vehicles offering more than one choice. Some vehicles still offer a manual transmission and sometimes they may depending on engine you choose have more than one self shifting transmission available. Since some may offer a dual clutch, CVT or automatic with a different engine level. An example some compact Fords in the past had a bad rating due to transmission problems, which gave that model a bad overall rating, but the problems could be avoided by going with the manual transmission. Consume Reports in their reliability ratings specify where the problems are, by separating them into categories like engine, transmission, climate control, etc. it is just to bad they lump all engines and transmissions choices into one rating and not which transmission or engine to avoid.

All around double wishbone suspension excellent off-road as well as stable and super quiet over 100mph it feels like 50-60 and sturdy as all hell solid as hardened steel. Nothing on the Jeep Grand Cherokee? I rented one and loved it. I don't recall which package it was but it was luxurious and comfortable. The sun roof had 6 options and more if you combined the settings. My wife thought it was too big, but she drove it and did well. She prefers a small car she can zip around in for short trips like drives to the store. It was more than we needed, but having it for the time we did was a treat. It would be ideal for long trips or carrying several large adults.

As for the Ford Escape and Chevy Blazer: First off, I never buy a first-year model - especially when you're talking about a domestic vehicle. First year models often come with glitches, snags and headaches that don't get worked out until one or two model years down the road. If you're itching to try it out, rent one from Enterprise or Avis for a week and see what you think. And if you're REALLY hung up on a first-year model like the Blazer or Escape, then I would recommend leasing because you're only committed to it for 3 years. At the end of the lease term, you have the option to buy it if you're still thrilled with it. However, if things go sideways within that time, you can very easily turn it in and either walk away or get into something else. Just keep in mind that leasing will cost you more in the long term. I went with a lease 4 years ago because I cared more about the flexibility than I did the money, and I'm very happy with my choice. My second peeve about the Blazer in particular is that you can get way more STANDARD equipment for the money if you go with any other make and model. This current iteration of Blazer is so disappointing, I wish they'd have given it another name and saved the Blazer name for a much larger, utilitarian vehicle. The 2021 looks exactly like everything else on the road, and not anything like the traditional Blazer of the 70's and 80's many of us knew and loved.

Before it (unfair to compare these two SUVs), I had an Audi Q7 Premium Plus. Audis have a great first impression, which continues once inside. I drove it straight through from Denver to San Antonio, and my back and legs never gave me any trouble, which they normally do on long trips. I like all the safety features and history Audi has had in safety and building their cars. It did great in the snow with all =-season tires, but would have done even better with snow tires. You're telling me the Ford Expedition beats out the Yukon Denali XL??? Nope, not even a close comparison. We went and looked, and test drove, the Expedition, the Navigator, the Suburban, and the Yukon Denali XL. Best interior quality- The Navigator Best ride- The Navigator by an inch, the rest were pretty much tied. Amenities- The Yukon and Navigator Best dash and placement of things you actually use- The Yukon Best MPG- The Yukon for sure, we bought the diesel Best towing- The Yukon Best sound system- The Navigator hands down Long story short it came down to the Navigator or the Yukon. We went with the Yukon because of it's utilitarian aspects. It wasn't as luxurious as the Navigator, but it performed better in everyday situations. Like getting groceries, taking the kids to football and soccer practice, towing the boat to the lake, or picking up big items from a store like a T.V. Not to mention the price difference! We paid $72K for our Yukon and got the amenities we wanted. The Navigator that could give us everything we wanted was the Black Label Navigator, and it started at $97K!!!!!!!

regarding Honda reliability, I think Honda is benefitting from the reliability they had 20+ years ago. And the sentiment that Japanese cars are inherently reliable. But stats tell a different story. We own a Dodge Durango, we love the towing capacity and it actually gets decent fuel economy. We have the V6 version, when we purchased this vehicle we could not find the V-8 in our area. We get 18 miles per gallon in the city and 26 on the highway. We have had some issues with the vehicle, but they’ve all been covered under warranty. Our vehicle is a 2017 model, and we had a transmission issue. Dodge did replace the transmission at no cost to us, so that was good. After owning this vehicle for a while, I would recommend it to anyone who asked me. It has an excellent ride, and the price point on this vehicle, is lower than that of the Ford, Chevy, or any other manufacturer. We paid right around $27,000 when we bought it. I wish it had some of the safety features that are offered in today’s vehicles, but I feel it’s just last that will go wrong With it in the future.

At the price cars are selling for, I can not comprehend why anyone would buy anything other than a Toyota or Honda. They are not flashy, but are engineered to last and still use common sense components. Ford, GM, and several other car manufacturers are using the 4-cylinder option as an excuse for fuel economy, when in reality they are less fuel-efficient and much cheaper to manufacture. Ford is having numerous issues with the 4-cylinder explorers, and when I test drove the 4-cylinder Blazer and Acadia, you could feel the engine and transmission having to work way too hard to get up to speed. This will certainly cause premature wear. I went with the proven Highlander, which came standard with a 300 horsepower V6, paired with their 8-speed transmission. After 36k miles, it's averaging over 26mpg combined city and highway, and routinely gets 28-30 mpg on the highway. These numbers are better than the underpowered 4-cylinder options from Ford and GM, which were 3-5k more than the Highlander, despite having much worse reliability ratings. Also, people claim to stick with GM and Ford because they want to "Buy American." Both Toyota and Honda had more cars on the 2019-2021 Made in America index, which ranks cars that use the most raw materials and parts made in America. Honda is the most American-made car brand, Toyota spent 32.6 billion dollars on American-made materials for their vehicles last year.

The ST trim has the 3.0L 6 Cylinder with much more power and reliability as well as decent fuel economy for a 3 row AWD SUV. I haven't had a single issue with it so far. The explorer in this video is an "ST" trim as well which doesn't line up with the unreliability and low score narration.
