We do a quick review of the resurrected 2021 Toyota Venza. We discuss the good and bad and the details on why this exists and who it's for. We talk about some of the technical parts and design, along with why you would consider this among other products like the Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Tucson, Honda CRV, Mazda CX5, and Toyota Ford Escape and RAV4.

@@LucasFR11 I know I test drove and negotiated on a new Venza in May at Bob Howard Toyota in Oklahoma City. I learned the car inside and out. It was a good offering but I told them to put things on hold because I saw a Mazda dealer next building over. I went there and was almost instantly loving how the Mazda CX-5 was built and felt and how it drove. Also made in Japan like most Mazda’s. Anyways I leased a Pearl white grand touring w/ premium package. I have 3500 miles on it now. Already did an oil change early as I always do to clean out metal shavings from engine manufacturing. Anyways for a price of $33,000 it’s a good offering and is smooth and easy for me to get into and out of because of a car crash and spine surgery. I can’t get out of sedans or sports cars by myself anymore or I’d have kept those. Sold them and have a new tundra and my new Mazda CX-5. Like you said, nuff said on being built in Japan. I really don't get why they're so wide. Your phone can manage to have hardly any bezel, and it has tougher requirements to meet than this screen does. I'm not as bugged by it as Mr. Goose, who hates all big screens, but this one could certainly be better packaged.

They should all be looking at how well Mercedes unifies the center console screens and the instruments and integrates the whole so it doesn't stick out way above the dash. I'm pretty sure all makers will eventually have a band of screen running across the dash in the end.

So Toyota's CUV lineup is filling out really quickly. The Venza's been reborn as a sort of Camry crossover. The Corolla Cross is testing in Asia now. I think there's a Yaris Cross on the horizon too. Our lust for SUVs/CUVs is an insatiable abyss to which all manufacturers must proffer tribute. Edit: Corrected the Yaris line. Yet another Upgrade the US isn't getting is seems.

@panzer_TZ
@panzer_TZ 3 жыл бұрын
I personally think the controls are that way because the Venza was originally for Japan and foreign markets as the Harrier. The cars designed and built in and/or for the US market have more physical controls. Look at the controls in the Camry, Avalon, and RAV4 for example. You also see this with the Korean versus US designed/built Kia's. (The Korean K5(Optima) has an electronic shifter versus the US KMMG built K5 which has a normal shifter; The Telluride which is designed AND built in the US has physical guages and a normal Shifter versus Hyundai's Palisade which is also sold and built in Korea unlike the Telluride)

Hi Mark. I know you won’t see this, but many thanks for your detailed reviews in general. I’ve used them to compare the Kia Niro hybrid to the Venda. Living in northern VA I don’t really need AWD. That’s one of the reasons I like the Niro - that and the usable space and standard controls and DCT appeal to me. But the Kia dealership ‘experience’ makes buying the Niro out of the question. I spec’d out the Venza in XLE trim with the Softex package - that gives me a smaller infotainment screen with manual controls (like you, I HATE the digital controls on the larger Limited model’s screen) and heated and ventilated seats. I’ll miss driving my BMW convertible tho. In any event, please take good care and again many thanks for all your good work on your readers’ behalf.

Now I just want quiet soft and comfortable should I make it to 50 with some health issues. And I don’t care what anyone thinks because half the people who make fun of me couldn’t afford to pay for half the price of one of these in cash! Yes I worked in finance for years too! People have bad credit, lots of debt, and barely any cash saved. Many people appear to have money but not a stick of furniture in their new house that is in foreclosure. It’s sad. So opinions don’t matter. But for me your comment hits on the nose. And the way this world is changing for the worst with lightning speed, I don’t want to be around past 50. I’ve traveled and lived well and I can have things wrapped up in 7 years with a nice bow! Haha

Out of curiosity... how often you do you really change your settings? I almost never change it year round 69-70. The only thing I do turn on and off would be front defroster but I wish that was automattic. You would need a humidity sensor to calculate dew point. I mean, if you put in on low versus 70 it doesn't cool any faster and same for heating. So why keep adjusting?

This stuff also need to meet requirements that a consumer tech item like a galaxy s smartphone doesn't. If you're interested enough in tech to care about the bezels you might well be too young or too poor to pay for a new venza. To some extent the tech is suppoesed to work for 7 years and toyota customers want reliablity not cutting edge tech - and if you care aboutu tech lots, perhaps you;d be interested in paying a fari amount more for a lexus?

It's popular to say something like that at "enthusiast" websites, but there are plenty of cars available, that range - as they always have - from beautiful or performance to economy. Relatively few people want them (or wagons). There are lots of choices, and that's always good. The only thing that has ruined anything for me is the absolute obsession with safety and technology, making vehicles overly complex and heavy for my taste.
