After testing a lot of vehicles in this class, and renting a Venza for a week to be sure - I bought a 22 Venza Limited in same color as this review. I've owned a wide variety of vehicles in my 55 years of driving. I am happier with this Venza than any other vehicle I've ever purchased - even happier than the 2006 E500 Benz I owned. I'm 6 months and 6000 miles into ownership. There is not one complaint I have about it. Absolutely great comfortable vehicle with incredible tech. I highly recommend it.

in my country this car is called the Harrier, i think that's the japanese name since my country mainly imports jdm cars, pretty solid car that's proven to be very reliable and modern looking. More near a lexus than a toyota, people use it to accompany their land cruiser/toyota crown.

I own the fully loaded limited and love it. Agree on touch controls, very fussy. I live in WA, mixed driving. In the Summer I get 43-45 mpg, Winter, drops to 40. Range sits in the 450-500. Battery warranty covers you up to 150,000. Some wind noise at high speed, but overall quiet and very comfortable. Build quality is really solid. There is a lot of really smart tech inside including smart environmental controls, digital rear, auto lighting, 360 camera.

We moved from a 2021 RAV4 Limited to the Venza Limited with Star Gaze Moonroof. In our opinion, The Venza is a step up in luxury feel and finish, it is much quieter in operation and the folding mirrors are a huge plus for my wife in her attempts of getting in and out of the garage. The Apple CarPlay wireless connection is a step up vs the 2021 Rav4's need to be tethered to the iPhone. The larger screen and maps are really fine. We do not miss the volume knob on the infotainment system as that is on the steering wheel. Rear and front visibility is better than on the RAV4. Fuel economy on our RAV4 was 44MPG in the summer and with the Venza it is 42MPG. We know how to drive a Hybrid and are always in ECO mode. Full tank range is 500 miles. We have gone 600 miles on a long trip and we arrive in fine shape, so the seating and cabin conditioning are really top notch in our opinion. This is the ultimate Toyota Hybrid at this time and is essentially a Lexus NX350H AWD in Toyota clothing for a substantially lesser cost. Would we do it again? In a heartbeat.

Until a few days ago I didn’t know what a Venza was. I have owned two Prius’ and am on my 2nd Camry (all hybrids) and have been very satisfied with all of them. As an elder, bigger guy (6’1 and too heavy), getting in and out of the 2019 Camry was becoming a chore and as I like the height of my wife’s Grand Cherokee, I began looking for something taller and still a hybrid. Because I didn’t need a third-row seat the dealer recommended a Venza. Test drove one today. It was quiet and drove like I expected a newer hybrid to drive. My wife was very satisfied with the interior styling. Bottom line: a new Venza Limited should be delivered in mid-April and am looking forward to the Apple CarPlay features. BTW, this review helped support my decision - I’m of the age that boring, trustworthiness is a great feature.

Whenever its a Toyota product we already know the final thoughts. I now own a Toyota because I simply wanted uneventful ownership. I have had mine 3 years, and it has been uneventful. I will probably own at least one Toyota from now on as long as they don't change who they are at the core. I would absolutely buy one of these as a family hauler or commuter and not worry. Nice summary thanks for sharing! (Now I have to show this video to my elderly parents who own the last generation Venza)

We've had 10 new Toyotas since 1992, 6 of them trucks, still have a 2020 Tundra. Only 2 of them had issues. The 2002 Sequoia had problems with the rear a/c, a leaky rear axle shaft and weird traction control hesitation that would leave you stalled in front of oncoming traffic. Then there was the 2007 Camry SE, the transmission slipped under 3k miles and a strut tower wasn't welded up properly. It was traded at 3.5k miles for an Acura TL. The 8 others were near flawless, only requiring normal maintenance and maybe some small warranty item.

My GF now wife has always owned boring Toyotas while I’ve owned GTIs, Audis, and Wranglers. After we got married just over a decade ago and started popping out critters, and her having to sometimes be my taxi to and from stealerships because while her car was usually oil changes and go, my Audis would be in the shop days. Older, more boring myself, and wiser, with family, I’ve just gotten tired or all the maintenance headaches and embraced getting something dead reliable over fun. All we’ve owned now has been Toyotas and Lexus and while “fun” they’re not, they’ve never let us down, only needed wearables, and are simply bulletproof. Lowest cost to own vehicles I’ve ever owned bar none, like a set it and forget transportation option.

Toyota Venza has a complicated history. The car is named Harrier in Japan, but the original Harrier was sold in the United States as the Lexus RX. Starting with the third generation Harrier, it was designed separately from the Lexus RX, and the Lexus RX was reimported and sold through the Lexus channel in Japan. And now the fifth generation Harrier is sold in the US as the Toyota Venza. So, since the Lexus RX is based on the same concept as the Toyota Venza, it is no surprise that you guys see the Venza and feel it looks like a Lexus. In case you are wondering why the Japanese Harrier and RX are different models, it is said that it is because they were too small to sell in the US. However, after the model change, the Harrier was increased in size, and I believe it was decided that it could be sold in the U.S., so it came back as the Venza.

Thanks for the history. It's still too small for me. I was very excited when it was announced as something that slots between a RAV4 and a Highlander. But that was not the truth at all in terms of size and capacity. And with that battery pack cost (we keep cars forever), that kills it for me. And how much is the RAV4 Prime battery pack going to cost to replace? Good grief, the pack in this Venza is has to be much smaller so I could never own a plug-in hybrid or full BEV. Unless of course I won the lottery 🙂
@pleco101
@pleco101 2 жыл бұрын
@@jsfbay1 Yeah, the battery pack cost is definitely something to consider. I'm in Canada and if the average driver drove 20,000 km per year * 12 years = 240,000 km (150,000 miles). That expense could be a shocker. But again, you'd have to factor in potential gas savings over those 12 years, vs the battery pack replacement cost.... If you don't drive very often, then maybe it becomes worthwhile. I think 15 years of ownership is a reasonable long-term goal, for those people that like to hold on to vehicles.

I did some math, comparing the money saved in gas for the hybrid rav4 (and venza) vs the regular rav4. Based on the EPA ratings, by the time you hit 150,000 miles, you save about 5000 dollars in gas based on an average 3.50 a gallon (more saved the more expensive gas gets, say if current prices stay) The fuel economy savings practically pay for the battery, and with the gas tank being the same size (not usually the case in hybrids) you get the added luxury of the increased range per tank for the entire 150,000 miles, which means less trips to the gas station. Not to mention based on the average of 13,500 miles a year driven by Americans, it would take a little over 11 years to hit that battery warranty. But this is one of the hardest things to accept as an enthusiast/car nerd. For basic A to B transportation, the best car is an appliance. Good fuel economy, low maintenance cost, decent comfort and good reliability. Everything else is just a neat bonus. I drive a grand cherokee and I absolutely love the thing, but it was beat to shit by previous owners and I'm definitely paying for it now when if I got something like this I'd be worry free driving

@@josephroach9793 I haven't heard anyone say that the actual costs of a theoretical parade of Hybrid horribles (battery replacements, inverter-converter replacements, or power-splitting device replacements) at 100K+ miles make Hybrid fleets economic losers. The latter two procedures are pretty rare if the infrequent coolant and ATF changes happen in a timely manner, and the batteries themselves have been warranted by Toyota to 150K/10yrs for the past couple of years---Toyota sure seems to have pretty long-term confidence in their systems. I agree that, pre- and mid-pandemic, hybrids were unwanted by buyers---the golden days of $1.60/gallon gas during the pandemic didn't pump up market enthusiasm, particularly when the Great American Consumer has been convinced by marketers that their vehicles all need to have AWD to get to their favorite mountaintop Starbucks, and their vehicles need to stand at least 5ft. high at the window sills to keep their children "safe". I'm just saying that those preferences were pretty irrational, when I could (and did) buy a new '20 Camry Hybrid LE in September, 2020, (to be sure, the trough of pandemic demand) for $5K below MSRP without any bargaining, in any trim and color combo I could want, and get low-50s gas mileage during the temperate months, low-40s during the Michigan winter.

I LOVE how you guys go under the vehicle and discuss the build quality. There are so many videos out there that go over the same things - but rarely touch on questions like "is this car well built" beyond just giving lip service to, for example, toyota or honda's reputation for quality. One are that isn't address is whether the engine in this car will last in the long run. I know it is an atkinson engine with electric motors - but is that more or less reliable than a regular (otto) engine? And how does that atkinson engine compare to say a turbo engine + electric motors setup found in the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tuscon? Which is going to last longer and have fewer problems? I don't see any reviewers out there talking about that stuff - you folks are the closest!

Great review! I purchased a '21 XLE in late December. Totally agree with the main points in the review. I will add that I LOVE the quieter and more refined ride compared to my trade-in 2015 RAV4 Limited, which was really kind of terrible, and had marginal interior quality for a Toyota. One thing I'd like to point out - because *all* the other industry reviews rag on the cargo space ---- The Cargo space in the Venza is basically identical to the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Acura RDX, etc., etc. (and better than Lexus NX). Since I consider this vehicle a "Lexus Lite" alternative to those vehicles, and not the Santa Fe, CRX, etc, I think the cargo capacity is totally acceptable.

We bought a fully loaded ‘22 Blizzard Pearl XLE Venza earlier this month. So far we are very happy with it especially the fantastic gas mileage. The ‘22 XLE has actual buttons and knobs for the HVAC and volume controls which I prefer over flush controls. We plan on keeping it for 10-years and looked at various vehicles in the same class and decided on this stylish Japan-built Toyota. The dimensions were very very important as our 2-car garage is snug and the Venza fits perfectly.

A friend of mine sold his Supra to get a Venza because he bought a house and his wife got two babies. And I know the day will come when I have to give up my M4. This car just sums up the life of the average American adult. You have a mortgage to pay, four or more mouths to feed, wage not keeping up with inflation, saving up for children's college fund, saving up for retirement, all kinds of family obligations: you are just overwhelmed by life itself there's no time nor money to spend on that dream car. You want to save every penny on gas, insurance, repairs and depreciation, and Toyota tackles these four points perfectly, that's why it's such a successful company. Toyota is so hated by people because they don't want to admit they live an average life devoid of excitement. And as you retire there's no more leisure time, kids no longer require your support, your house is paid off, you got enough savings, that's when you buy that childhood dream car. That's the reason why Corvettes and 911s are old people car. Sports cars are mostly bought by retirees. Or if your mean boss had been blocking your promotions, stick with a Toyota that lasts till you die.

Simply stated, Toyota is a durable and reliable car, and not everyone has the need to drive, or be seen in, a flashy car, regardless of age. Image is in control of a lot of lives out there, but not everyone succumbs to it.

I have had my 2021 Toyota Venza XLE and put 24,500 mile on it so far with every option except the roof system. I love not having buttons on the display. First if wiped down regularly it looks so sharp. Second, the volume can be controlled on the steering wheel. The temp controls, I find I set mine on 72 and leave it. On mornings where i need the rear defroster or front defroster. I set it the night before for front defrost and rear defrost. Also, put my heated seats on. I then turn the car on remotely as it has that handy dandy feature. I no longer come out to a cold car. Then I return he settings to auto. I live in Nashville TN . Very brutal summers and so so cold winters. IN the summers i reverse that. I leave it on 68 and have the ventilated seats set . I cannot say how much I love this car and all the features the XLE has. I actually bought the LE car first and 3 months later bought the XLE because the salesperson did not show me or offer me any other option then the LE. All my maintenance has been done by the dealership at no cost.

Awesome video! I love my 2022 Venza (LE) they definitely fixed the touch features on the dash. I would say it’s a lot better then the 2021 in use and by the way mine looks. I really do love the gas mileage, it’s very impressive for an SUV. The car feels like luxury, it’s buttery smooth to drive, soo quiet and I just love to look at it 😂it’s a pretty car. It wasn’t my first choice originally. But I’m so glad I bought it, I really do love my hybrid. No I wasn’t paid to say any of that 😂

I have a 2019 Camry that came with the Ecopia tires - I agree with your assessments. In dry, clear conditions, the tires are very decent; as soon as you hit inclement weather, they're useless. Even when almost brand new, they would lose traction easily even on damp pavement, and would hydroplane on even a tiny bit of standing water. They are being replaced with something else this spring - the Continentals look decent - any recommendations? I should also mention that I currently have about 125,000km on it, and had transmission failure at 200km, and more recently at around 115,000km - it is decidedly NOT worry-free transportation

Thank you for the update! I really like the Venza and honestly i think the biggest selling point for this suv and Toyotas in general is the D-4S system, with port and direct injection, i wont have to worry about carbon build up on the valves. Thank you Toyota for thinking about long term maintenance.

I think Toyota did some re-engineering of their Hybrid systems for these newer models (2019+ Rav4, 2019+ Highlander, new Venza etc). They seem to be way more refined than before, and are great for a more mainstream audience than just people who want great fuel economy. My wife's 2021 Rav4 XSE Hybrid has been a great car so far. My biggest surprise is as a person who likes cars, I don’t actually hate driving it around. Plus 40+ in warmer weather is outstanding.

Great review of the Venza, as always. I really appreciate your thoroughness and honesty. We bought the 2021 Limited and a year later, we love it. Living in a city, I haven't really experienced any concerns with the engine sound. On heavy acceleration or going up a hill, you hear it but most times I have the music going and it covers the engine sound. With just regular day to day driving, it is extremely quiet, calm and comfy to drive. The seats are comfortable and there is plenty of room for our needs. Really appreciate all the safety features. The infotainment unit took a couple times to get used to but honestly I don't even notice it anymore. I can change the Sirius presets and volume on the steering wheel. And once I set the temperature, I don't change it very much afterwards. The button for the heated steering wheel is in an awkward place but the seat heater and vented buttons are close and easy to use. I do wish they would reset to off after turning the vehicle off. The screen is in a good position and easy to look at. The gas mileage has been amazing, especially with living in a hilly city. We are averaging 5.7 L/100 km after a year (41 mpg) but have had city trips as low as 2.8 L/100 km (84 mpg - sounds crazy but it's true!). The use of the hybrid electric system has been WAY better than I thought it would and the Venza can stay in electric mode longer and at higher speeds than I thought possible. Our only complaint has been a slight creaking noise from the passenger c-pillar and a bit from the panorama roof when going over bumps/uneven pavement. Not sure if the cabin roof liner is loose. The service manager said it was probably flex in the vehicle. We'll monitor it and hope it doesn't get worse. I also wish the panorama roof would open up to bring in some fresh air. Oh, I have noticed that the paint has chipped in a couple places. The service manager mentioned about the paint issue but said that the vehicles painted in Japan tend to be a bit better than the ones painted in North America. So far, the Venza has been a great vehicle and look forward to many more years with it (This is only my 3rd vehicle in 25 years.)

I think this is great fit for a two car family; have this as the main utility vehicle. Good space overall, great mpg, good looks and interior. Sweet 12 inch screen. The other car can be a bit more of a compromise and sportier depending on if there are kids or not. I can't imagine this being my only car, but alongside something a bit more fun, it's a good setup.

I’m really glad you all are pivoting to longer term reviews. One question, not just about the Venza, but in general: what’s a vehicle that delivers the same, or even similar, relative affordability, comfort, fuel economy, reliability, and all wheel drive, but isn’t an appliance? I’m struggling to come up with what the next car will be, and I’m that guy who is over the cost of maintaining an MB, Audi/VW, or BMW.

Excellent vehicles…. I don’t like the infotainment set up on the RDX.. but man the stereo Is maybe one of the best in any vehicle…. And it rides like a dream. My Sorento is super nice with great safety tech and captains chairs in second row… and really nice finishes and solid HP.

Look wise, this car is underrated, since the first gen, it's one of the earliest Crossover which adopt that sloping roof line, without desperately having to call it an "SUV coupé" but looks can be deceiving, it's not interesting to drive in any kind of form, the interior although luxurious enough, also doesn't reflect the sporty design that the exterior had

I just want something comfortable, quiet and good looking that you don't have to think about. With some ground clearance and good looks but does not stand out or show off. This thing accomplishes this perfectly and the Le base model has everything you need and nothing you don't !
