The only problem about this bike that I would change is that I would want a ZEB on it because the 35 mil stancions on the lyric is just not enough for me being a hard rider, but other than that, the slash 8 is amazing!!!
@mikemerkley33163 жыл бұрын
I can understand the notion that 35mm isnt enough. In reality it really is though. Im 185lbs BEFORE my gear and I ride like a bat out of hell. Bike parks, DH shuttle runs with friends, you name it. I do prefer the Fox 36, however, not because its stronger but rather I personally like the feel better than the current RS stuff. My first full suspension bike was a Giant Reign and I put the first Lyric fork on it when RS introduced it. Never once did I even come close to exceeding the abilities of that fork. They are stout for sure. If the Zeb or the Fox 36,38 make you more comfortable then more power to you. Nothing wrong with a little more beef if it gives you piece of mind. But the 35mm Lyric is more than up to your riding if its strength your concerned about.
@theDecendalorian3 жыл бұрын
@@mikemerkley3316 Thanks man! That actually helped a lot because I was not sure if a Lyric would hold up after a couple of years if I bought a Fezzari La Sal Peak. Thanks for letting me know that the Lyric will be able to handle whatever I throw at it!

I'm 190 and I ride my rigs like I was trying to run from an avalanche, hitting chunky sections and freaking high jumps and drop-offs all day and I prefer the 35 mils or at most fox's 36's. Have had 38's and they're too damn heavy to me. Not that I can't pop my manuals or it's literally too heavy you can't lift it, it's just that I prefer a rocket that is still easy to throw around. I prefer rockshox feeling, dampening and lightness as compared to fox and at my weight and the abuse I put them through they haven't failed me yet. I remember when I was a noob(I'll say pretty advanced now and stupid, bad for my health sometimes lol) and all I wanted was the latest and largest, thickest and heaviest forks blah, blah, blah. Now that I've ridden so much, you really don't need anything bigger than the rockshox or fox 36's and they help even if the smallest bit during climbs which I do all day in Southern Califas, unless you like losing some nimbleness and you love extra weight, but then again to each their own. Do your thing homie. Just thought I'd give my personal insight. 🤙🏽

How dare Trek pay their employees, engineers etc... a good living wage? After all you want Chinese slave labor to do it all and have a bike sent to your house in a box from an on-line seller. Oops correction - Chinese manufacturers have no designers/engineers. They have rip off artists that steal US and European innovations. Wonder what bikes will look like in 20 years if folks like you drive Trek, Santa Cruz, Canyon, Scott, Ibis, Yeti, Evil, Orange.... out of business.
@Alex-md6bu3 жыл бұрын
@@mrsmartypants_1 you do realise where this bike is made right? Pretty much every bike company uses labour in East Asia to keep prices reasonable, the difference is how much of a presence the brand's themselves have over there... Some pretty much leave the Chinese to it, others keep the thumbscrews on them until they get what they want.... That's much harder to describe in some sort data that you can prescribe a value to!! @bigbo17643 жыл бұрын
The slash is pretty agile for an enduro bike, it’s not a borderline dh bike like the Specialized enduro, but it is still pretty stable. I seriously think you should go 29, the extra bb height and rollover is great, there really isn’t much of an agility difference - at speed, the 29ers feel much more stable and less hung up.
@mikemerkley33163 жыл бұрын
@@bigbo1764 You really hit it on the head there. I was a die hard 26er fan and when 27.5 became the standard I hated it. Then I got one and I kicked myself for not adopting it earlier. I've owned the 2022 version of Slash 8 for a few weeks now and definitely enjoy the suspension and how it handles obstacles. A few problems I noticed immediately though - shifters are way to far to the right cutting into my thumb with no way of adjusting them without moving the brake handle (which I don't want to move). Brakes are terrible, squeeky, way too spongy, brake disk wobbly brand new. With QR replaced by the through bolt, removing the front wheel for transport is a mission - forks need stretching to slot the wheel in, which is almost impossible with 1 hand, the wholes are not aligned to thread the bolt through. Not to mention that I had to push back pistons already twice by accidentally pressing the brake in transport with wheel taken off. After that each time I need to realign the calliper as the disk rubs the pads. Primitive and annoying. Whoever decides to use these wide straight handle bars has never heard of ergonomy. These are real wrist twisters. So painful to ride after 30mins, blood flow is limited to the palms and I get pins and needles feeling. With price tag of £3700 in 2022 it's massively overpriced. People seem to accept it comparing to other bikes and prices on the martket but you can buy cars for not much more with the amount of technology and features light years ahead of the bicycle.

Can you guys please do a Rocky Mountain altitude vs trek slash vid because they are both some of the best enduro bikes and I’d love to see them put to test
@bikeradar3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, unfortunately the Altitude hasn't been tested as part of Enduro Bike of The Year but we do have a video review on the Nukeproof Mega 290 Alloy Pro coming out soon 👍

Seatpost insertion depth looks concerning.
@bigbo17643 жыл бұрын
The seat tube length isn’t that long though, so it’s not really that concerning, you could probably get a 170 dropper in their with ease, especially since trek specs them standard on their larger sized frames.
@MrSupermugen3 жыл бұрын
my 210 oneup nearly slams.... insert dept is an irrelevant complaint, complain to the dropper makers.

Super review. I know Slash riders that really like them. Running a medium size with the (fixed) shorter CS is probably the most balanced size of all in terms of FC/RC ratio. If you went XL the CS stays the same although reach increases significantly; Changing rider fire/aft position. I wonder if it would feel as stable at speed as the medium ? Did you manage to try an XL ?
@pauldavison20183 жыл бұрын
I guess the seat tube angle isn't steep enough as that saddle slammed forward.
@TheMTBRider963 жыл бұрын
it isn't indeed
@MrSupermugen3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMTBRider96 theres more to the seat angle than meets the eye... frame compactness, weight distribution , wheel spacing for suspension design... theres a reason the slash has always been very stiff.

I recently got the exact same slash, the slash 8 2021, and i noticed when finishing a steep climb on the 52t speed that my chain screw up if i pedal reverse while taking my breath : the chain basically leave the 52t speed to some random other speed by it self I went to a bike shop to fix this issue but they tried with no succes and told me it happens sometimes for 12 speed configuration... Anyone has the same issue?
@simonhag46243 жыл бұрын
Go to an other bikeshop and let them change the derailleur hanger (seems like yours got a hit). I always have one in spare… I ride 12 speed for years without having any problems (except a bent hanger)
