At first, I was hesitating between the R and the Rs.. but I chose the Rs finally because with the accessories that I wanted on my Street Triple from Triumph catalog, the R was reaching the price of the Rs without having tft dash and all of those little details that makes the Rs just perfect 👍🏼
@yonniboy13 жыл бұрын
MCN tested the R against the RS, the R was faster 0 to 60 mph and 0 to 100 (due to maximum torque being produced lower in the rev range), at over 100 the RS got up to top speed quicker but both bikes are restricted to 149 mph.

Moved from a CB650R and love the lighter weight and seat height of the Triumph. (I have the lrh version). It feels a lot more nimble than the Honda and just a lot more premium. It's way more bike than I am rider for sure! Keep up the great reviews etc. Atb Trev

I got my R a year ago andi can say that this bike is not a beginner bike. I started riding in ‘99 and even for me with al my years of experience i can say that i can not use its full potential. You can adjust the rear and front suspension the same, not only the springs tension. For the rest, a good and honoust review. Keep it up 👍

Define beginner bike….. Maybe for US drivers it is. As your formal driving training looks much different than for drivers from the EU….. I am from Europe myself and could immediately go for open license due to age (24 or over). Otherwise any new rider is restricted from some years. Before I took my lessons I did not ride any motorcycle before…. But had extensive experience riding bicycles. And that helps. Did my lessons on 75hp Suzuki SV650. And lessons were strict. And immediately after getting my license I rented a Honda CBR650 for a small weekend trip to find out what it is like to ride a motorcycle by myself. Had no issues at all with that bike and kinda liked it. But I was looking at Triumph all the time and wondered what a three cilinder would feel like. So I did a few test rides on Trident 660 and Street Triple RS (due to lack of an R being available). With the RS I had no problems at all. The Trident was also very very nice to ride, but felt I would grow out of it too soon. Liked them both much more than the Honda. As a result of both test rides I made up my mind and bought the Street Triple R as my very first bike a little over a month ago and took delivery two weeks later. Reason I went for the R over the RS (apart from the cash) is that i did not want to spend the extra bucks on the RS for options that are mostly useful on the race track, and I preferred the analog/lcd dash over the tft one. And as you say, the power difference is not that big. So far I do not regret that choice. Got the first 200 miles in last weekend and am now hoping for better weather so I can get past break in period asap, or at least go past 5k rev limit. It doesn’t look good for the coming days as the weather is atrocious, but days are getting longer now and hopefully I get a few good days during the coming weekends. Anyways, still consider myself being a beginner rider. So far no issues with the R at all and like everything about it. It is very easy to ride if you don’t drive like a maniac. I do have break in period however to really grow into the bike but until now the experience has been great…. And I also know that the bike has more potential for me to unlock. Heck, it can probably do much more than I am ever capable of myself. So I will not get bored of it.

I’m going to buy the R over the RS now because this is my second bike, I don’t think I’ll be hitting the track too often and this is more than enough for the street. Have seen some comments regarding value retention. Resale on the street triples is very solid, An RS will be a bit better in the long run. When it comes to private party people will value a little extra money for the suspension, dash, brakes, etc. I just purchased a 2018 RS w/ 5700 miles for $8000 in florida. Less than 1k miles on the new tires, both rear cowl and passenger seat, frame sliders, triumph brand led turn signals, evotech tail tidy, and a few other minor things. Fantastic deal and helluva bike for that money. Realistically won’t lose much over the course of the next 5-6 years. I sold my model year 2012 base street triple for $5000 in 2021. So I will most definitely be okay with losing $2-3k over the course of another 5 years. Likely even less as the bikes are on different levels technology and performance wise. Even new, 12,8 to 5-6 in a decade is phenomenal

I'm surprised anyone would have something as fast as this as a first bike. :>)

Yes, you can really tell how much of a difference 5hp makes.. I think the mapping on the R version is down tuned because it’s the same exact engine.. tq/hp differences are really noticeable. But like I said.. unless you’re an expert or a track day enthusiast, stick to the R model. PS: I would NOT recommend R for the new rider. It’s still too much.
