Scotty is a complete moron, but the BCM/ECM does control the wipers on several cars. Ford Fusion, Focus, and Escape all have a Bosch wiper system that uses two motors that have to be kept in sync, can detect obstructions in the wiper path and adjust the force and distance of the wipe, and also re position the wipers if put in the wrong position after cleaning or blade replacement. Everytime you start one of those Ford's you'll see the wipers twitch while it runs a self check. They'll get confused for a second if going back and forth between the functions and lag as well. They work great, but I'm also horrified that they're going to completely glitch out and need re programmed. I've seen one person with a escape with the Bosch system out of sync and the blades just kept beating the shit out of each other. It was honestly entertaining to watch wiper blades fight.

The idea of people ”bandwagoning” into EVs sounded weird to me though. I can’t imagine a significant amount of people buying electric cars because ”they don’t want to feel left out”. Long time watcher, first time commenter here. I really appreciate this review because I have a 2012 Passat and it's awesome that RCR finally did a review about this generation. Mine has the 2.5L naturally-aspirated inline 5 with the 5-speed manual. I actively had to seek out a manual version when I bought it. It is by far the most reliable car I've owned. I owned and drove a lot of American sedans before this and the Passat handles ages better than them! And that I can get up to 35 MPG on the highway is astonishing! Everyone always comments how fast it is (they just notice the torque because it's pretty slow getting up to speed). And I've spent way less on maintenance than any car I've owned. I've currently had it for about 9 years/75k miles and it's still running smoother and had fewer things go wrong than my friends' cars. Maybe I just got a really well-built one? *knocks on wood* I'll probably be one of the few that will miss it when it's discontinued, but I totally understand why.

Also a lot of lack of trust based on what VW did and made in the 90s and 2000s. The newer VWs are overall much more reliable and have much better electrical systems than those older models. I had a 2012 Jetta and a 2016 Golf and, while I ditched them both before 70k miles and wouldn’t have considered keeping them past 100k, they never caused me any real trouble and probably would’ve held up for years with regular maintenance.
