Nice bike. I'd choose the R1 over the S1000RR on the exhaust sound alone.

Having owned 2 of each including > 100,000 miles on S1000RR's, I found the BMWs sounded and felt about as exciting as a sewing machine. Or maybe a tuned Toyota. By comparison, the R1's crossplane (with a full exhaust!) will also obey a skilled owner, but it's much more engaging, more fun to ride slowly (and fast) and will take you closer to the edge while growling and roaring like your own F-18 fighter jet.

Bmw is losing its appeal to some degree it seems. The new toyota supra with the bmw engine is a total flop. I'm in the sf bay area, I think I've seen 5 or 6. Their new s1000 rr looks cool and all, but I saw one KZbinr full throttle it at 2k rpms in 2nd gear, and it pulled like a scooter. I guess they're made to ecu flash or put a power commander.

I had the 2019 r1m and loved it, it is an awesome motorcycle. my upgrades were , sprint p08f1 filter, racefit 3 quarter titanium exhaust, twm levers, 43 tooth talon rear sprocket, puig double bubble screen, lithium battery, ecu flash and dyno tune for 190 rear wheel power. It was in my opinion, better than the s1000rr m sport just because it was more fun to thrash at wide open throttle and had that low down torque that would make the front wheel lift up in the first 3 gears on the flat level road, the exhaust sound and engine characteristics are this bikes unique selling points. It did have some flaws though, it would understeer in tight corners, so you need to be aware and get your body position right as you approach those tight bends to make it easier to stay on the road instead of in a field or over a cliffside, the brakes are not up to the job for fast riders- they need upgrading to after market brembo and pull the abs fuse out of the fuse box. the transition on clutchless downshifting through the gearbox from second gear to first could be difficult and result in a crunch and no downshift or a false neutral- fit a racetorx (or other brand) gearshift support to help reduce those issues. on the 2019 the throttle was choppy and jerky at on/off throttle transitions and was worse at low speed while trying to manoeuvre slowly in a bend at a junction. The s1000rr m sport was smooth on the throttle in all these areas mentioned above and is a great road bike and feels almost perfect in every way but as a former owner, it looks cheap in the plastics and the suspension components and even the carbon wheels are cheap looking compared to bst wheels. it seems to limit power in the first quarter of the throttle range in the first 3 gears because it is so damn smooth and lacking power that it seems the electronics are set that way to stop idiots from giving it a hand full of throttle and high siding the bike. it is lightweight and easy to flick from side to side, fast and capable but does it all without any feeling of fun and doesn't get your adrenaline flowing. possibly a perfect bike for the isle of mann tt.

I daily my 2021 R1M. Currently all stock, but going to slap on the same exhaust setup my previous 2016 R1 had, which was cat delete Akrapovic midpipe to a TBR muffler with no baffle. Sounded beautiful, retained the signature angry, deep aggressive crossplane tone while being absurdly loud under full load. Looking forward to it.

the think what the r1 has over all the other super sports is that engine character with the xplane crank is so unique and awesome. in my opinion the only competition is the aprilia rsv4 and panigale v4. i got an mt10 because of the engine alone because im not a fan of the looks very much..

The sound is the reason I haven’t decided on which exhaust I eventually want. I’ve heard exhausts that make them sound like a Honda and I hate it. I don’t have anything against Honda’s, but I want the sound to stay deep, throaty and unique. I don’t want an exhaust that turns it into a screamer. Lol

I live in Florida myself. Gainesville area and often in Jacksonville. After a few run ins with cars. I’ve smashed mirrors and came to conclusion they see us most times and just don’t care. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT BIKES! Lol. And most people who hate on R1 have never rode em and don’t understand them at all. And lots of em I think talk shit because everyone else does. People say they aren’t reliable. But how can they say this when they never owned em. I mean it blows my mind. Treat them rite and Yamaha has always been known to be reliable. I’m a gixxer guy and still love R1. Nothing is punk about the R1. It has a big name for a reason dude✊🏽🖕🏽 fuck these people lmao

I've owned a lot of bikes in the past, even a Gixxer 600 back in the day, and every one offered something a little different. I don't hate on any brand, but maybe because I've owned so many. Seems the ones that hate the most, have ridden the least. I looked at a Gixxer 1k when I got this bike, a black and red one, and the only reason I didn't even consider it after sitting on it, was because the heel of my right foot rested on the exhaust can each time I sat on it. I figured that if that kept happening while I was at the dealer, it would happen if I bought it. That was the only reason I passed on it. People think that if you ride one brand, you're somehow a fanboy. I'm a fanboy of riding, and not much else. If you're on two wheels, we good.

Haha. I always think it’s sounds like I’m doing wind tunnel testing. The Shoei RF1400 has a snap at the front of the cheek pad, right in the center, which ideally is where the mic should go so it’s not too high to get a hollow sound bouncing off the shield, or too low to pick up wind noise from down by chin curtain. I really haven’t found a good spot for it so far.

My longest stint on it was about 5-6 hours, getting off here and there to stop and get gas or a drink.

Agree with above statement. I'm also above 6 foot and it's doable. I'd rather be uncomfortable then ride anything else. Nothing compares to an unrestricted r1 with a project sc exhaust. The sound is beyond explanation and is addictive!

how's the seating position comfort wise?

It’s really going to depend on how tall or short you are. The reach to the bars is around 23 inches. I say “around” because I measured from my belt buckle to the steering head. I have a 34 inch inseam so I can flat foot just about anything, but if you’re legs are shorter you might be on your toes. That said, the pegs are low so I don’t feel like my feet are right under my butt and my knees don’t hurt when riding for any length of time. Overall, by Ducati 749 was a LOT LESS comfortable. I think one of the things that all R1s are noted for is that they are one of the most comfortable liter bikes out, and have been for years

I'm really confused btwn Panigale V4 and R1, can anyone suggest the right one?
@IShootPixels
@IShootPixels 3 жыл бұрын
Firstly, is money an option because the R1 is under $18k USD and the base V4 is $22k USD. The V4S is clocking in around $28k. Then there’s the cost of maintenance. My local Ducati dealer charges $150 per hour and my Yamaha dealer is $100. And then there part cost. After that I can say IMO the R1 is much more comfortable and FAR LESS hot. The Ducati’s always feel boiling hot under the seat. Every one I’ve ever owned or ridden. Rider aids are the same on both and both offer very similar power. It’s my opinion, but I don’t think the base V4 is worth the extra money. If you figure that the Duc is $4k more, that would buy so great upgrades for the R1 and with the new BrenTuning option that’s going out, it’ll be a lot quicker.

@@IShootPixels You are absolutely right mate, thanks for your valuable reply. Firstly i was also tilting towards the R1 for the reason that Ducatis heat up more compared to R1, and commonly we need to pay extra bugs to buy and maintain ducatis. Now i have set to R1❤️. Btwn I'm from India. Here too Ducatis are heavy to maintain. But buying an R1 will definitely make worth as it's Japanese, you just buy and maintain, no worries of reliability at all. ❤️🇮🇳❤️

I actually just talked about this in one of the videos I just put up, haha. I can only compare it to the Panigale and the CBR, but it’s far more comfortable than either one of those. I haven’t risen the ZX-10R or the S1000rr yet.

The BMW S1000RR engine is really buzzy. It has tons of vibration. I don't like that bike. R1 is a way better bang for the buck bike. Also BMW had loads of issues and recalls with s1000rr in the past. Great choice. I'm gonna ditch my SUZUKI GSXR1000 2015 real soon and buy the black R1
