Yes, I remember Pretty Yende being detained at the airport. It's what made me discover her. My father-in-law is South African, so I've developed a great admiration for everything South African and I love the operatic talents they brought to the world. My favourite is Golda Schultz. But I digress. I'm not sure if Pretty Yende being held at the airport was due to racism, I think it was just as likely the French border agents being overzealous and dicks. And rude. She's extremely popular in France, so they really picked up the wrong person to mess with.

The lay person thinks singing opera is just putting on a fake vibrato. They also like high notes regardless of how they are reached ....or in this case....not reached (omg that last note was horrendous my God. My throat started hurting me just hearing that last note ) Vin ******cero. AAAAAA noooo she is belting with a put on vibrato. Terrible. I cannot.
