@@-igotwhateva9771 The CVT can only hold around 250ftlbs before you risk snapping the chain. The manual stock clutch will hold 290ftlbs before it slips and will hold 500ftlbs with a type R retrofit clutch You dont know what the fuck your talking about and sound clueless asf

The thing that makes me sad is that something like a launch gear can’t be added aftermarket. I love my 10th gen Civic, and knowing it’ll never have things like that is a bummer. Cars are so integrated these days; there’s less and less room for changes like that.

The SPORT model has paddle shifters which helps with launch from a dig. This CVT model doesn't come with the shifters.

Zeuses Civic X 1.5 Turbo Cvt never seizes to impress me good races from a dig the cvt lacks a bit on the launch but from a roll once L15B7 hits boost and reaches 6000rpm then it really starts to show it's potential the TLX Type S is not that impressive for what it is in stock form but it does have potential for making power with aftermarket performance parts and ecu remapping

4200 lbs though. You need to shed about 3-400lbs to be a respectable AWD performance sedan. The TLX Type-S is actually slower than a stock 2.0t Accord from any kind of roll. It's a touring car, with AWD. Beyond that I've never understood the performance interest in it.

it's comparable in weight to the other AWD performance cars its size and basic configuration (the 540i xDrive and the A6 55 TFSI), and it easily walks the Accord Sport 2.0T in roll racing as seen on this channel. As per the performance interest in it, it's one of the fastest cars in its class in terms of handling. Morotrend's Figure 8 test had the Type S beating the S4 and matching the m340i, despite both being much smaller, lighter cars with better acceleration. It's more than Honda put all of its eggs in the handling basket; they more than sufficiently compensated for its size and weight in handling, but should have been making 400 (or more) horsepower to compensate for it in a straight line. Although it's comparable in weight to the A6 and 540i xDrive, it's still slower than both in a straight line. But that's the exchange; do you want better handling and more acceleration from the factory.

Dumbest thing to say that an older TLX would eat that when the motor is from an older TL. 290hp against 450hp beasts? Yeah be realistic. I have the older type S which is the same j35 they’ve been using and I know for sure it ain’t eating no damn 455hp redline at 7k V8 monster. The new TLX type S is a j30 with twin turbos, 10AT and AWD that would still get beat by a 5.0s or the other two. If the Q50 red sport AWD at 400 ain’t beating a 5.0 with same amount of weight basically a little less than the TLX then make it make sense how an older TLX with a basic 3.5 v6 with no forced induction would really beat that😐

@@tigereyetypes lies. 0-60 and quarter mile times are dead nuts even between the 5.7 Charger/Challenger and the 2021 TLX Type S. And the 5.7 Charger/Challenger actually traps a higher speed than the Type S in the quarter mile. With the 2021 Type S being dead nuts even with the 5.7 a 6.4 Charger/Challenger will demolish it in all speed metrics. Don’t even get me started with your claim of the older TL even keeping up with any of the cars mentioned 😂😂😂😂

The CVT isn’t “1 speed”. Technically it is infinite speed because the transmission is “continuously variable”. Also the CVT allows maximum performance because it allows the car to stay at maximum HP throughout the entire run. Max acceleration at a given speed is achieved at maximum HP.

Yes once moving but from a stop Cvts will always suffer. Additionally there is a hard limit to how much torques they can withstand before slipping and that limit will decrease as the transmission wears. Once they start slipping you are talking about a full rebuild so as soon as you’ve realized you’ve hit that limit you’ve done irreversible damage.

@@ROBMACDUI the reliability of CVTs is definitely a significant concern. That is why performance cars don’t use them. However, a CVT still offers better performance than any other transmission as long as it can sustain the HP/torque the engine is producing.

@@LearningFast agreed on paper but that torque limit is such an issue that every manufacturer using them has to limit throttle when accelerating from a stop and is the reason why Toyota uses a standard first gear in their CVTS.

@@ROBMACDUI yes, that is correct. Manufacturers typically have to retard the performance of an engine to safeguard the CVT. However, the CVT is still capable of getting optimal performance if it is robust enough to handle the HP/Torque loads. They have newer versions of CVTs that don’t use belts so those are more reliable. Reliability is always a concern with them though. Ironically, electric vehicles could benefit the most for performance from a CVT if the CVT could handle the torque of an electric ⚡️ motor.

Quite impressive. I know The Type S is heavy but at the same time it has twice as big of an engine. To me it's more like top end issue on on Type S and that's what many ppl reviewers said too. Let's face it, it's 3.0L vs 1.5L.

yeah definitely top end.. but they are working on the hondata tune for it.. and prl and p2r are working on intake and exhaust bits.. that will open it up.. the J engines always opened up more with bolt ons.. and now this j engine has a factory turbo so its going to be interesting when the hondata tune is finished.

The CVTs are weak and cant handle much torque - easily max it out with a tune - CVT tunes are dialed down quite a bit vs the manual ones. CVT torque is kept low around 240ftlbs or so - stock turbo on an e30 tune can make 340ftlbs ...280whp with downpipe and e30 tune 29psi on stock turbo. FBO they have run 12.1@113

@@JohnCena-jb3yp Are you sure? The C43 is the second fastest in the class behind the M340i and it demolishes the Type S from a roll. I think that civic based on how it beat the Type S may be able hang with it and get walked if you ran it out but to even be in the conversation is impressive.

@@ClubZlut the M340i is alot faster than the the c43, this civic shines even more so on top end, so if they keep going even further than a 1/4 mile I'd say that increases the civic chances even more, look at the second dig race here, you can see the civic was starting to catch up but the 1/4 was over. And yeah to be even considered going against those cars is impressive for the civic, I think people need to put some respect on it, it's 1.5 cvt economic car for crying out loud. It's competes with granny corollas 🤣🤣🤣 but it's punching way past its weight and winning too.

Correct, the Type S isn't a drag racer, and on a track it beat the competition like the Genesis G70 and Stinger GT. SH-AWD is really meant for acceleration while cornering.

Does the civic have replaced rods? Asking because even at those numbers, I’ve seen 3 come to my dealer with a blown motor trying to be go fast boys(full bolt on and tune). 2 were CVT and one was a Si… maybe money shifted lol but i know there are way more cases out there. I’m just asking because I hope the owner is prepared for when it happens. Rods are a big weak point in the 1.5T

MAPerformance had a 10 Gen Si with stock engine with over 500hp and the engine was ok even if they had A LOT of dyno and drag strip runs. Rods are not weak at all.

The Type S is too expensive for the power that you get. It'll be much more reliable than any BMW or Audi, though - or any domestic. Also, it looks great. Anyway, good video. You really should list the mods on the Civic, though. I assume full bolt-ons and an aftermarket turbo. Also, a tune, of course.

Speaking as someone who just bought a Type S, it's precisely because I wanted the mix of luxury, power, and reliability. Besides, dealers are charging $20K over MSRP for the Type R. It definitely isn't worth that.

@@googlewolly How do you figure it's over-priced? The nearest BWM or Audi sedan with similar performance and luxury is $10K more and doesn't have as good of reliability. The Lexus IS350 is cheaper, but by the time you put in the optional stereo to match was comes standard in a Type S, you're within a couple of thousand and the Type S will smoke an IS350. The IS500 has a bit better performance, but is also $10K more (dat V8 though!). So please tell me what the comparable vehicle would be that is not "overpriced."

It’s the weight difference of the two cars. The Acura TL Type-S is extremely heavy compared to the Honda Civic. Put the same drivetrain from the Civic into the Type-S & you’ll see a definite difference in speed.

How to you know that? The Integra type s will likely come with the 2.0 with 272hp. That motor is in the Accord and the TLX type s beats it (Sam has a video on it). Granted the Accord 2.0 will likely be heavier than the Integra type-s, but even if you look at the 2021 Civic type R (has the 2.0 with 305 hp), its a driver's race between that and the TLX type s. C&D shows the number for both cars and they are very close (type R is 0.1s faster to 60 and 0.3 sec faster in the quarter mile). The math doesn't support your claim. Do your homework before saying that you KNOW something.

Kind of crazy that you call the TLX “Stock” with SIGNIFICANTLY lighter wheels and a “Straight pipe exhaust”. Lighter wheels offer MUCH less rotational mass especially for large diameter wheels. That alone increases acceleration significantly. A true straight pipe exhaust on a turbo car will matter too. Then you don’t even mention what is done to the Civic. You just say it has an “Impressive wrap”. That is something that truly doesn’t matter for acceleration.

He said 5lbs per wheel I think that’s 20 total pounds which is less then the 6 lbs the y spokes weigh less over the multi spokes. Also the car in sport + mode bypasses the muffler and is essentially straight pipe so his “mods” really didn’t alter much if anything

@@BCautosolutions nothing of what you said is accurate. 5 pounds of rotational mass per wheel is EXTREMELY SIGNIFICANT. Learn what rotational mass means. It is much more significant for acceleration than static weight. Also “Sport plus mode” does NOT equal straight piped. That statement is just absurd.

@@LearningFast stock wheels vs 20lbs total weight lighter wheels equals to insignificant 0-60 and 1/4 changes, there’s plenty videos proving this. And again one can achieve this by simply purchasing the optional y spoke wheels which actually lose 6lbs per corner. On a road course prob see a difference in a drag race most likely not. Also I take it you never looked at an exhaust of a type s so you lack of understanding here isn’t surprising

4,000 pounds is still 4,000 pounds. The TLX Type-S is still too heavy even with the lighter wheels. & the better exhaust isn’t going to give it crazy amounts of extra power.

@@BCautosolutions you’re wrong. Just simply wrong. Yes, absolutely the stock exhaust bypasses the muffler and that doesn’t improve performance. However, he said this is a “straight piped exhaust”. That would mean it bypasses EVERYTHING in the exhaust. That would make a SIGNIFICANT difference. Perhaps he said straight piped but didn’t actually mean that. That is one thing. However, if it truly is straight piped then you certainly can’t call that car “stock”.

Easy win for the Type S from a dig. On a track, the Type S even beat the G70 3.3TT and the Stinger GT (see Car & Driver's Lightning Lap). The Acura is more of a track car than a drag racer. Lightning Lap Times Car&Driver... Type S 3:06.7 G70 3:07.3 Stinger 3:11.6

The advantage of front wheel drive is call drive train drag Awd- drags like 45% from power distribution to each individual wheel Rwd-drags like 30% due to the power distribution from the transmission thru the drive shaft to the tires. Fwd-drag like 15% since the transmission sit's closes to the tires it's inverting the power too and only has to go thru a pair of Cv axles so it a big weight advantage on power distribution compared to the other methods of power distribution. I'm not sure if you're just hurting for content, but I wish you'd stop racing "tuned" cars. It's not an accurate representation of what most people are drivin' off the lot. Or, have a 2nd channel devoted to racing tuned cars loaded w/mods & bolt-ons.
