Not quite, the CVT cannot handle a lot of torque down low, and brakeboosting or hard launching will pop the belt even on a totally stock car. The trick is to bring the torque in gradually and not letting max torque until past 4k rpm. As long as your tune is correct and you aren't going balls to the walls all the time, you should be fine. My 2019 Civic Si coupe feels quick AF in regular mode when compared to Sport mode. Sport mode has a more aggressive throttle response in lower to mid RPM range in lower gears, but for some reason it feels like the boost levels off early. It doesn't feel like engine is pulling the weight of the car anymore, but more like doing just enough to maintain speed with just enough power to keep accelerating at a leisurely rate. Driving in the hills in Sport mode is so much fun it's sinful. In regular mode, my Si feels much quicker. The RPM's don't jump up as fast as in Sport mode which gives you more time to stretch out it's legs and really get the most acceleration out of every gear before you have to shift with the one exception being first gear. The turbo doesn't produce positive psi in first gear and the throttle hang between first and second causes the RPM's to get yanked down hard to match the speed of the vehicle if you don't wait for them to drop low enough before letting out the clutch on second. Also in regular mode, The boost doesn't feel like it levels out as early as in Sport mode, making it feel like the car is actually pulling through the entirety of each gear, once you learn how to counter the turbo lag in the beginning of first and second that is. As fun as the 10th gen Civic si is to drive, Beware!!! The brakes are garbage and brake fade is real AF on this thing. If only Honda had made the fake front vents functional and used them to cool the brakes. Drive like an asshole responsibily.

Cvt has advantages with linear power delivery. Froman engineering standpoint fast gas car would utilize a cvt, problem is most major auto manufacturers dont make them strong enough. Its usually used for fuel efficiency. I agree having a 1st launch gear would be great, then a cvt. Even having a lightweight hybrid system when battery technology takes off in the next decade, aluminum air, or graphene. That would be cool
@huseyinkaya6583 жыл бұрын
I am sure the the owner of the 1.5 tuned civic would say CVT is solid and I had no problem BUT it can’t handle this much horsepower and torque in the long run and will break. This is why Honda put different automatic transmission on Accord which has similar hp and torque like the tuned civic.

I guess Honda has made a certain point about the more modern version of there CVT, for 2022-2023. But if you tow and sport drive it a lot! It will over heat and that expensive CVT will be just a ornament in the junkyard. DCTs wet 8’s and of course 6 speed manuals will always be my transmission of choice both in sporty and race applications. The new Z06 Vett doesn’t use a CVT. But then again Honda’s proof of concept worked. It just depends.
