Congratulations on that beautiful truck! I rec'd my Lariat 502A Powerboost on May 10, exactly 6 months after I ordered it. I absolutely love this truck. Best vehicle I've owned after 45 years of buying new vehicles. You can either hypermile the truck or drive it like you stole it! Powerful yet fuel efficient. Loving the ProPowerOnboard feature when we're camping with our RV.

A friend of mine in Canada, has one of these. She tows about 7k lbs a few times a week and she gets hit hard with the Canadian gas prices. So apparently she had about a 80 gal aux tank in her bed, with an 2012 F150 which she got transferred to the hybrid, and had about a once every two weeks to come into US to gas up. With the hybrid, she's been filling up once every three weeks. Even though the highway numbers aren't that different from the gas only version, with towing it affects a lot. She can get as high as 16mpg when towing.

Powerboost F150 really seems more practical and convenient than the Lightning, cheaper, offers better range and better towing. The lightning would need to be charged every 100 miles and that takes about 1 hour depending on the charging station and trailer size.

I finally got possession of my high option Lariat PowerBoost mid-June after ordering it before Thanksgiving and so far am quite happy with it. Braking is definitely different than my old 2019 high option Lariat. I attribute the braking difference to the regenerative braking plus the extra 500 lbs of the hybrid system. I did lose almost 300 lbs in payload going to the hybrid, but I was able to sell my generator that I had for camping because I just use the ProPower now which makes it kind of a break-even since the generator was close to 200 lbs. BlueCruise was a little underwhelming with the eye-track notices and the "keep your hands on the steering wheel" notices when not on BlueCruise mapped highways. Comparing towing of the hybrid vs. Lightning, you need to compare similarly optioned configurations. There are no SuperCrew hybrids than can tow that 14,000 lb number, either, so I would consider them equivalent on towing weight. However the Lightning has a little over 100 mile range on a full charge when towing a sizable trailer while the hybrid should be good for almost three times that on a tank of gas.

This might be the most desirable vehicle on the market with the comfort, driving, and utility. But it's completely stupid as well. It's a real pity that Ford can't make a truck with heated seats and wheel, pleather interior, the auto 4wd, and a 2.7 hybrid for like 50-55k. I don't need a television in the dash, it just runs CarPlay anyway, and I don't need artisanaly made dashboard leather inserts with embossed nationalism. But I'd sure love a big truck that got 30 mpg and didn't cost as much as 4 years of college if my kids decided to live at home and commute. Love the channel and will keep watching everything you and your delightful family put out.

Fun review. Powerboost keeps getting rated the least reliable truck (and that battery will get worse and worse over time). I just picked up a 2023 Lariat Coyote - at these prices I’ll take a hassle free existence with an awesome roar over a little more power and fuel economy. I used to have a 2.7 - it’s a great engine. Problem with the XLT is I really like 4A in snowy winter city driving, which you need Lariat or up for - not an issue if you live further South.

Let me preface this by saying that I currently drive an ‘15 Accord Hybrid with over 140k miles. My concern with having a hybrid power train on a truck that you’re actually going to work as a utilitarian vehicle (towing and hauling more than groceries and the family camper once or twice a year), I don’t know how well we can trust the longevity of the hybrid system. With a car, it’s not stressed the same as with a working truck will be. I suppose if you’re the type that constantly keeps a newer vehicle, then this is probably a good choice - same for the ecoboosts. But, if you plan on keeping it for years and years over 100s of thousands of miles, I think I still want to stick to the v8 which can still manage more than 20 mph when driven conservatively. I also get really nervous about these electronic trailer-backing systems. If you can’t back a trailer, you shouldn’t be pulling one. There, I said it… again.
@mattbrew112 жыл бұрын
I have a large fleet of trucks for my business. No data on hybrids but the ecoboost has been absolutely fantastic for us and we beat the fk out of our trucks but we also turn them over at 150k because at just three years old they still have good value at that mileage. 4 years old @ 200k they aren’t worth much or 5/250 dealers don’t usually even want them in trade, otherwise id feel quite confident in running them out to there. Beyond 250 I wouldn’t expect it to not experience some solid downtimes for repairs and that conflicts with a scaled business.

Would you mind answering this for me. Does this truck have 22 inch wheels that you’re reviewing and adaptive dampers? What trim level is that because I priced one out and it was over 80,000 and it didn’t have those features.
@MicahMuzio2 жыл бұрын
Our tester was a Platinum trim with 20" wheels. Regarding the adaptive damper system, Ford calls it "continuously controlled damping". The system is standard on the Limited trim and optional on the High versions of the Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims. Strangely, Ford's configurator puts "continuously controlled damping" in the exterior options.

Other than the towing, I am trying to decide F150 Lightning (70 mpg @ .20 cents a gal basically) or F150 Powerboost Hybrid 3.6L Limited that gets the same as my current car (mid 20's). I am concerned the charging stations around the country are just not there yet adding hours or days to a trip and if you get somewhere and their power station is down, then what. I was ready to commit to the Lightning for mear mileage savings alone, but have heard a lot of negative reviews on the charging stations and if the batteries go bad (cost to replace once warranty is out).

Any particular reason for the exhaust to be coming from the side as opposed to the rear? I had that once before on a pickup (or "ute" as we call them here in New Zealand... short for utility vehicle) and after a couple of years it made sooty marks on the inside of the garage wall and all down the driveway fenceline too... cold morning starting and backing out... I vowed I'd only have "normal" exhaust positioning again and haven't had exhaust from the side since...

Powerboost hybrid vs Lightning, towing is the Lightning Achilles heel, until EV pickup matches ICE pickups range, to me, it seems like Ford and other EV pickup makers have carved out a nitch market, a place for customers that wants a pickup, but didn't want the fuel economy associated with a pickup, best of both world, call me when the range increases and there are charging stations that support a vehicle towing

I own a large solar company. As far as half tons we have ~ 115 right now. Of those 60 are F150s and we just got our 4th lightning. Its been the most reliable vehicle we have ever run, including trying all makes ( titans & tundras ) . We tow daily and often really push the payload numbers. We do not have any power-boost trucks because its not available in the trim we run (STX). I would feel absolutely confident buying one as a consumer there’s next to no chance youre gonna be as hard on it as we are. I still think our Rams are slightly more attractive but the F150 is a good looking truck and their version of a bed step is easily the best and safest option.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 2.7. Since 2015 ive owned ~ 200 of them for my business with towing and likely exceeding payload every day. Very few issues. Follow maintenance intervals and you’ll Have great results. It is the most reliable platform we have ever used and thats with multiple attempts with other brands concurrently. We’ve also had excellent results with the ecodiesel rams but we need more payload than they offer and wont be buying more, sadly. The powertrain is good enough that I bought myself an ecodiesel gladiator and I love it to death. Edit: I see you mention the bronco ~ 40 of our current fleet are 21/22s. Zero issues whatsover. There is a tiny variation in the bronco powertrain so I think whatever wasn’t right with them isn’t carried over to the half ton. I don’t know what it is but it has something to do with the exhaust crossover. Thats from my fleet mechanic Who I tend to trust
