The Honda Civic is one of our favorite cars, partially because you can get it in a hatchback with a 6-speed manual transmission. It makes us even happier that this combination gets excellent highway fuel economy! Now we just need to test one with the 2.0-liter base motor.

Car manufacturers need to make profit, regardless the model. So... we buy more sedans instead of SUVs?

Charlie very well said, this Civic is not "the 'hatchiest' of hatchbacks" and loses a lot of practicality with the compromised lift-back styling. But it is not all bad news, the fact the manual beat the CVT in highway mpg puts a big, big 😁 on my face. The fewer drivers that are 'subjected to CVTs', the better🤩🤩🤩

Most people are gonna buy CVTs rather than learning a manual, that’s just the reality. Car companies are appealing to the masses who aren’t car enthusiasts and just want something reliable that’ll go from A to B. Unfortunately eventually we’re gonna have to pay a premium for what’s turning into a premium feature

Thank you for the video! I need to replace my 2004 Honda Civic 5MT soon. It gets 40mpg on a bad day. Usually closer to 44mpg. The new civics are so big that I didn't think they would get above 40 but it appears they do. Thanks for doing this experiment for me!

The description says it's a 2.0L engine but at 1:00 in the video, the annotations say 1.5L turbo. Is it safe to assume the description is correct?

I have a 21 Accord Touring with the lane keep assist. I use the feature quite often, as I have a 40 mile highway commute. The system usually tends to pull you to one side or another, depending which lane you are in. I usually drive in the left, so the LKA tends to pull me there. Despite this Characteristic, I find it useful on the highway. You just can let your attention wander because it only assists you, and not fully autonomous.

Awesome video to test highway MPG with the manual vs CVT at 42MPG with 520 miles, that's great gas saver. but I know manual is better MPG than automatic or CVT on road at city/highway. I think they should offer more manual on cars out there because of too many CVT on cars and transmission is not last longer a like manual plus easy to replace the clutch and flywheel.😁👍

Anyone know why the 2023 models with manual only come in 3 colors that all cost $400 extra? Is Honda trying to hint they don't want us buying this? Doesn't make sense. The CVT has 8 colors 4 of which cost nothing. Doesn't help this car barely exists impossible to test drive AND all Honda dealers are doing this mandatory "protection package" crap. Why...

I lnow its really weird why we cant get black in touring manuel im pretty sure its because they want people to switch to cvt because in the electric world there is no such thing as manuel and the future is electric

The Civic Sport Touring manual would be the one I would choose over the Civic Si and Integra A-Spec (tech). I don't have a local track, therefore don't need the LSD. The sport/equipment/space ratio is just about perfect. I even think it looks the best out of those 3. The proportions are better than the Integra. At 42mpg, it would be really hard to beat for a daily driver. Incredible car, and what a value in comparison to the top trim Integra.

The safest thing about any vehicle is the driver. I don't need all the fancy technology. Just give me a reliable vehicle with stick shift, I can manage the rest.

I'm puzzled why Honda has a turbo 4 banger geared like that. I have a cvt 2.0L Soul that will cruise about 2300 rpm @ 70mph. I'd think they could have geard 6th taller, to help knock down that RPM some. I had a 2016 Golf Wagon with the 1.8L turbo & an automatic. I would routinly average 40mpg with a personal best near 45mpg...

@@DailyMotorI’ve went and set up the ktuner 93 octane base tune on mine, it’s quite nice now. Not a rocketship by any means, but it moves enough and with a port injected k20 I’m not worrying about reliability failing me

Same, I'd really like to see the K20C2 6MT in action. I have this engine and transmission in my 10th Sedan and can also get 42mpg, but only at 60mph cruising. However, if I lower my cruising speed (country highways) I can get 52mpg...which I doubt the 1.5T can simulate since engine speed is getting close to 1000rpm.

Honda Automotive is a dead company walking. Honda’s inventory (at least in North America) is down 83 percent. In other words, Honda is running out of cars to sell. Be leery about purchasing anything new from Honda. If it goes under, who’ll honor the warranty?
