I’m a new rider in my 50s. When choosing my first ‘gateway’ bike I dismissed any ADV, I honestly couldn’t see the point for UK riding. We have so few areas of genuine open wilderness, just busy green lanes rammed at the weekend with walkers, cyclists, horses etc. Well ok, if most GS, AT, KTM owners want to pretend they’re riding their own Long Way Round as they commute through the suburbs then, fine, whatever floats your boat but, for me, a road bike just seemed the sensible, pragmatic choice. I went for a Tracer 7 in the end as a good all rounder, but in a year or two could easily see myself on this NT DCT - looks very smart in black too 👌

Hi Dennis and first of all welcome to the world of motorcycling 👍 I know what you mean, I used to own an Africa Twin, and took it on a green lane once and got a puncture haha Never did it again. I love the idea of off roading but it is very hard in the UK. The Tracer 7 was my first bike as well!! You have made a great choice, I couldn't recommend a better first bike. Also a very sensible decision to progress up to the NT DCT. Sounds like you are on a great course to a brilliant motorcycling career! Ride safe and enjoy. All the best

I get what you are saying regarding the more road biased status of the NT1100. However, I absolutely love my AT1100 on the road. I live in Yorkshire and ride a lot in the Dales, Lakes & Scotland. The roads are very iffy at best in a lot of places. The AT just deals with them remarkably well! It makes all roads fun, whether they are bumpy, gravelly or smooth. And yes, turn in with a 21” front is slower, however, the tyres are narrow so it is still very nimble and flickable. And stable at the same time when you are going for it over whatever the road throws at you, due to the long wheelbase and sorted suspension.

Hi, please don't get me wrong I love the AT its a great bike and know exactly what you mean. I did like mine commuting to work on the bumpy country roads, it just glided over pot holes! RedAng, great review and ride.. yet again! I have a quick theory I want to run by you: with Honda discontinuing the GL, I reckon they are ramping up this NT1100 for delivery to the US. I’ve noticed the motorcycle culture is shifting here in the states. If one wanted a huge touring bike (800-900 lbs), there’s already a over saturation with Harley, BMW, and now Indian. However, the Pan America has shown many young riders are migrating to lighter touring rigs. It looks like this NT1100 will fill that niche very well. So it’s official, the GL is gone.. and the NT (along with other standards) will help fill that void . Crazy?

Quite twitchy. Didn't like it I'm afraid. Probably should give it more time but it isn't for me.

Hi Charlie, fair enough I do know what you mean. I found the low revs a bit tractor like as well! Not too sure why that is, could be because of the DCT settings. I test rode a Honda VFR1200 DCT a couple of years back. Really did not like the auto box, it just did not suit the bike (IMO). On my return to the dealers I spoke about the DCT and suggested it was maybe not best suited to a performance machine, and more likely better on a smaller capacity bike. At this point the dealer suggested I test rode the NC750-X DCT (I had never even heard of the NC at the time) which I did. OMG...what a revelation. DCT was MADE for the NC. So impressed I bought the bike on my return. Ran it for two years, and what a machine. Lovely and light, very flickable, left 99.9% of cars in its wake, and on a steady run I could get 100mpg. Never tried the DCT on a Wing, (I owned a 2006 GL1800 at the same time). Ironically the GW became so little used I sold it within 6 months.

Here in the US that BMW belt may be 700usd with the pound rate to usd. Everything here BMW is very expensive and may more difficult to resource here. On tge adventure bikes I have Hondas. I like the BMW F800gt very much. The f800gs has a chain.

I kept seeing the reviews of NT1100, but there none in US. Honda let's bring them in instead, i am waiting.

Hi, I found it strange that you are comparing the NT1100 to the AT. It is like comparing apple and orange.
@redangrevival Жыл бұрын
Except they have the same engine/gearbox/brakes/quick shifter etc... Do you really need all that off road capability

Looks good but 100 ponies I don't think is enough for a touring bike specially if your two up with luggage. 150 ponies and it would come in line and in some cases top it's competition
@redangrevival5 ай бұрын
I tend to agree, 100 is enough for one person. However fully loaded and two up I would like more power as well!

I had to watch your take on this bike. But as a 2018 Wing owner I've had enough of Hondas over weight and underpowered formula of failure. The Wing is the best boring bike I've ever owned. Don't need two of them. The engine in this bike and the African Twin are like finger nails on a chalk board for me. The last African Twin I rode I wanted to drop it in a ditch, shoot it and put it out of it's misery. It was like a lame horse that wasn't that good to begin with. I can't see this bike being any different and a flop in the USA.
@redangrevival2 жыл бұрын
Haha fair enough, each to their own!! I suppose it is always nice to have a change, I quite liked the really relaxing laid back and comfortable style of this bike, with excellent wind protection as well. However I think I would get pretty bored with it for any longer than a year. It is a bland formula, but I think has its place in the market!

@redangrevival2 жыл бұрын
I am afraid those speeds are illegal in the UK!!
@feloniousmonk30492 жыл бұрын
It's not a track bike. There's nowhere in North America you can legally ride those speeds on public roads. We have young men that try to ride this fast, and with the common speeds of the rest of traffic, there's a high probability they will end up dead, shortly. That's just the law and the statistics of the matter, innocent people get hurt and killed by these kinds of crazy riders at those speeds.

Not impressed with the looks of this bike, the displays are from the Africa twin which I don't like (why have a tft and Lcd) !! Those sticking out wind flaps look flimsy .....disappointing from Honda. 😬
@redangrevival2 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. Yes the displays are pretty complicated!! A bit much for me. They where a bit flimsy but provide really good wind protection. The looks are definitely not its strongest point! I liked the overall package though, so comfortable. Cheers
@zyonsdream2 жыл бұрын
It has a TFT and an LCD for a reason. When you open up maps on the LCD it fills the entire screen. The LCD lets you know your speed at that point. Also, the TFT is somewhat complicated but I find on my AT, once you set the bike up, you don’t need to go back into the deep settings. The ones you use regularly are easy to access.

The NT1100 has all the aesthetic drama of the Deauville! It might be a really solid road touring option, but no kid will grow up lusting after this NT. At least with the Africa Twin, you’re buying into the all-road dream.

Nothing is really ever better than anything else. Would it mean no more Africa twin sales if it was really true. All bikes have there place. If a bike is really bad it won't sell then the manufacturer will launch another model.
