NX450+ owner here! 17,000 miles and counting. I’ve taken the car cross country and in extreme conditions (off-road, thick snow, mountain). This car has performed amazingly!!! I have a feeling the longer this car is out, more people will chime in on its versatility. I also regularly get 40 miles on the EV range. In short, Lexus undersells and over delivers in this car segment! The car is smooth as butter and luxurious. Worth every penny so far!!

As an owner, I concur. 4,000 miles on mine and the in town EV mode and powerful drivetrain on the highway are an amazing combination. Especially when you get 35+ mpg no matter how you drive.

Interested in hearing about your experience in the snow. I’m considering this as my daily driver and ski car. Given the apparently lackluster eAWD, I’m concerned about safety traversing highway 80 through the Sierra Nevada even with snow tires. What was it like in snow/ice at highway speeds? Did you experience much slip? Thanks in advance.
@ugnhyme
@ugnhyme Жыл бұрын
@@BigRedChico it did well in the snow. The only issue might be clearance, anything over 6 inches of snow I would need a lift. If you will be driving in these condition most of the time I would suggest a good set of winter tires. As far as the eAWD, it performed very well and seems to be dialed in really well from the factory.

I’ve had my NX450h+ F-Sport for a year and love it. It is the perfect daily driver. Great EV/fuel efficiency, technology/driver assist features, ride quality, acceleration, and material/build quality. It will have low running costs, be reliable, and low depreciation. No range anxiety and I drove it over 6 months before I refueled. Platform sharing with the RAV4 means inexpensive and good parts availability. Driving dynamics are fine for this segment of vehicle, it is as engaging as I need an SUV to be. I have a weekend car if I really need the ‘drivers car’ or 10/10ths driving experience. I’m sure the BMW, Acura, and Genesis are great to drive but not a contender without a PHEV powertrain. Volvo Recharge is appealing but Volvo reliability is questionable. All of these will have higher running costs (fuel, maintenance) and depreciation compared to the Lexus. Maybe a good option to lease but not as compelling for 5+ year long term ownership. I did cross shop a RAV4 Prime which is also an excellent car but the interior design and tech felt last generation and less refined. For a car to own long term, paying the premium for the Lexus quality and latest generation tech felt well worth it. If you’re looking for a PHEV SUV, I highly recommend the NX and would not trade mine for any of the alternatives cars mentioned. RAV4 Prime is a fine choice if the Lexus is out of budget. The upcoming yet to be announced Mazda PHEV SUV is an alternative worth looking into as well.

Does yours have HUD, my R4P has a tachometer only on the hud, engine randomly comes on even when in EV only mode. I think its a maintenance mode thing but does come on semi frequently, but the infotainment/dash doesn't show ICE is on at all. The dash has standard eco/power/charge , only the hud shows the tach if you change it in the options. I try to run my engine at least once a month burn off moisture/etc since I charge it nightly. I know a person with a Prius prime charged it for nearly 2 years and go to finally use gas and nothing worked. The dealer said gas turned to jelly.

I've had the older NX as a service loaner, and your comments about the high beltline, driving position, and tight(-er) interior are spot-on. It's a very nice small CUV. But for $60k, I think I'd go large with a GX and cope with the horrific fuel economy, knowing nothing will go wrong with it. In my area I have to worry about deer season - apparently in Illinois you have herds of chairs running out into the road. Did you take it to the local dealer for repair or just apply more zip-ties until you returned it? I think you could start a new series on the service experience you get with various brands.

My Rav4 Prime is great, this is way more money has less EV range. It does look more premium but sounds like all the styling has taken a toll on the usability and space. The prime also does not feel like a sports car, but being able to tow 1500+lbs while still getting over 27mpg is excellent.

Somehow, I’m guessing “Jack hit a chair on the highway” was actually “Mark curbed it at the Kum & Go” ..but either way I loved the silence dotted with scraping plastic noises/giggling. It brought back fond auto auction memories. Hop in a clean looking off-lease whatever to drive it across two states to a dealer only to get fifty feet onto a Denver onramp and realize it’s suddenly dragging its plastic ass on the ground behind it. “WTF are we doing?” was said so, so many times.

Along the wisdom "less is more", your production becomes better by simply leaving potential outtakes in. Makes it entertaining and more relatable, because not sterile or inauthentic. Also long segments of talking thoughtfully and clearly instead of switching back and forth between two camera angles to piece together sentence fragments for 'perfection'. It is basically a meta approach of not going overkill with technological crutches. Your reviews are like the cars you like. They have character. I am looking forward to April 1st. 😁

I find the dash on the NX to be nice. The fact that the top tilts toward you means dust is less likely to collect on it and the surrounds reduce glare. With my current VW the bottom is tilted towards you so you have a nice slope for dust to settle all over the dash. It's a small detail, but very much functional.

I ordered the 350h AWD in february of last year and was able to get my mine in march 22. This was for my parents as their car was getting older and needed a change. I wanted the 450h because while it was more expensive, it was allowed to get an EV Credit which offset it, but the state I was purchasing was not a zero-carbon state. So majority of these were being shipped to California where people were paying 10K above MSRP (dealer in cali told me to just wait it out). Anyways, I'm happy with the car or rather, my parents are. I am dumbfounded by some technological choices such as how terrible the wireless charging is and that if your phone does not connect to the system, it will interrupt the screen every 5 minutes and I consider this to be a distraction issue.

Hyundai is a dead brand to me as are KIA and Genesis. When problems surface, they deny them, and told me burning a quart of oil every 500 miles is 'normal', and when the engine blew at 120k under extended warranty, that was due to 'normal' wear and tear. Lexus treats me like their favorite customer, even though my 06 GX470 has 225k on it. I always get loaner Lexus when I get service, rides to the airport, and after a recall, they detailed it and filled it with gas 'no charge'. To me, paying more for a Lexus is worth it.

Battery efficiency drops dramatically in cold weather. Presently, there are rolling brownouts merely because people run their home air conditioners! What happens when electric cars are sold in really large numbers? Just when will we double or triple our generating capacity? I don't see people lining up to have coal-fired or nuclear generating stations built in their backyards. BTW, China has a monopoly on materials for battery production. EV 's are nothing more than the whimsical dream of some bloviating governmental bureaucrat, owned by the Chinese, who is worrying about a crisis that doesn't exist. The NX 450h+ is great in EV mode and serenely quiet. That said when the 2.5L engine fires, you hear it a lot. Lexus tried to mute it down compared to the very rattly Rav4, but the fact of the matter is while the A25A-FXS is a VERY fuel efficient engine, the refinement and smoothness you expect from the Lexus badge up front is simply not there. Also, the price tag is steep for what is essentially a Rav4 Prime with more amenities and leather. For those who have short commutes the savings would be great as is the quiet ride in EV mode and the hybrid option gives it great MPG when on roadtrips, but I'm not quite sure the value proposition is here. I drove a Rav4 Prime last week from Richmond, Va to Washington D.C. and back. I was really impressed with the electric range of around 46 miles. I would turn the gas engine on when the EV range was down to 8-10 miles and then when I hit the inevitable traffic jams on I-95 the EV range was back up to 36 miles. The 2.5l engine was a little rough, but that could just be more noticeable after driving in electric which was really smooth. I've heard people who just use plugin hybrids commuting and driving around town on all electric all the time can have issues with contaminated gas since they rarely use the engine. I don't know how much truth there is to this, but it's something I would ask the dealer about if I were purchasing. I would also consider the Lexus over the Toyota because there's not a huge difference in price. The Rav4 I was driving cost over 50k and many dealers are getting over sticker because there's limited inventory and high demand.

Idk what is happening but Lexus/Toyota have been recalling their newer models. Lexus issued a recall order for the 2022 NX SUVs because their front shock absorbers can detach, potentially causing drivers to lose control. Also, an issue with the parking brake: the brake actuator assembly may erroneously trigger a fail-safe mode that prevents drivers from engaging or disengaging the parking brake. The NHTSA oversaw these issues of course. Tens of thousands of models were recalled.

Currently I've stopped plugging in the car because I want to make sure that the gas guage is actually working. Usually I burn about a quarter tank of gasoline a week. It seems that the car is set to EV mode so I haven't used any gas that, at least, I can tell from the guage. I also have the digital rear view mirror, which I'm not using because the image is just too sharp. The 1080p bright rear images are super clear.

To me the biggest problem with a new NX is a used Cayenne S e-hybrid. You can buy the cleanest, most well spec'd lowest mileage CPO 958.2 ('15-18) Cayenne SEH in the country for $10k less and end up with a product that is superior in every way except ev range, but that $10k savings, and the porsches comparitively greater depreciation resilience at this age mean that the Cayenne will, despite marginally worse fuel economy be cheaper to own.
