I think comparing the M1, 16gb ram, 1TB SSD with the M2, 16GB, 1TB would have been a better comparison. The M1 being 300.00 cheaper would definitely give the M2 a run for its money.

One of the most honest, down to earth review with actual real tests, most of the you tubers out there are not genuine, the say the same things, the copy from each other .. they are more interested in sponsoring the latest desk design, or laps or fancy colourful rooms but they have nothing interesting to say.

I'm a college computer science student, I don't have any macbook yet, I'm choosing between base m1 pro 14 or the m2 air with 512 gb ssd and 24 gb RAM. Yes the pro is close in terms of price with fan, better screen and powerful gpu, but the air is more battery efficient, lighter and much portable, no fans means better dust proof, offers protection to internals because there's not a lot of holes and more RAM for lower price, 24 gb vs the 16 gb base of the 14". If you go with the 32 gb ram for pro 14, the price will be much higher.

I still use a 2015 MacBook Pro which is working ok as I'm an amateur photographer/editor with photoshop, Lightroom, premier, etc and usually use the laptop heavily during weekends. But I would like guidance for usage of these apps on the M2 and maybe to advise on sizing, cpu, etc if I want to upgrade. I'm expecting people to say... 'yes just buy it'. But I wish to know what is good for someone with amateur skills and a heavy weekend user to buy? Will the basic M2 MacBook Air be good enough to handle this or to go with an M1 Pro? I ordered the Midnight M2 with 16gigs and 512 ssd. However, that Starlight is looking good too. I might swap Midnight to Starlight at my Apple Store when it finally arrives first week of August.

no apple store is going to get the 16/512 combo. the only model they have with 16gb unified memory is the 1tb option, priced accordingly. If youre going to consider switching, I would do it sooner rather than later so the shipping times arent insane.

Starlight is the more practical color, I feel like the midnight looks really nice aesthetically but its such a finger print magnet. Good luck switching it out though most apple stores are sold out, hopefully the hype died down by the time you get yours and are able to easily do it.

For those complaining about the slower NAND in the 256GB version, just try Windows ultrabooks. I am using an 8GB/256GB Galaxy Book Pro with seven Chrome tabs and I have a 5GB page file and I am regularly hitting the limit (8GB RAM+5GB page file), meaning the tab I am in crashes! My MB Pro M2 can handle much more and never crashes. Please add perspective, even though some may be disappointed, the M2 still remains a far better choice than all 8GB/256GB Windows ultrabooks!

At least have a vapour chamber if there are no fans, this heat you're measuring with heat guns is external temperature but in the long run degrades battery and displays especially OLEDs.

It's something people made a big issue about that doesn't really exist for 99% of users. The 256GB model is slower technically, but 512 and above are just as fast or faster.

I'm planning to purchase a Macbook Air (M2 - 256 GB), and I'm not sure whether I should upgrade the SoC or memory (for future-proofing) - I can only afford 1 and IDK which is more important. It'll be for the usual day-to-day stuff: sheets, browsing, movies, and The Sims 4 lol. No video editing, coding, or music production. This is the 1st laptop I'll purchase for myself and I've never had any experience with Macs either, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Given that they're almost exactly the same size, where did they find space for the full-sized function key row? Is the trackpad slightly smaller? The area at the top near the screen looks identical. Also, given the notch makes the "fat" menu bar, what is the dimension of the "usable" window space compared to the M1 Air? 0.3" wasn't a huge increase to begin with, but I'm curious if it's actually much bigger usable space with that larger menu bar. (Yes, I'm thinking about selling my M1 Air and getting this-they're fantastic little computers). Great video, Aaron.

This is a tremendous video, Aaron. I am currently trying to decide between waiting for the newer MacBook Pros, which apparently should be out within a few months, or the M2 Air. (My current laptop doesn't support Ventura.) The monitor attachment limitation is absolutely the only thing holding me back as this looks like a great laptop otherwise.

Thinking this might be my next computer. I've got an older MacBook Pro that won't update past Catalina. Might go with your configuration, although don't think I'll spring for the 1TB drive, probably get a 512. I can offload my iTunes library to an external drive, and have plenty of space left on the internal one.
