This is the second video I've seen of a Tesla Plaid with detached weatherstripping around the windows. (The first had detached stripping on the driver's side rear window.) We have a Plaid that arrived yesterday at the Tesla Service Center for delivery this week. I'm wondering if Tesla is using a defective adhesive on its weatherstripping or if they've just dispensed with final inspection altogether. If so, that's an interesting approach for manufacturing a $135K car.
@M3rewards3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Blake, was bummed to see it, too. How’d yours turn out?

@@M3rewards Took delivery yesterday. Biggest problem was that, since I bought my 2015 Tesla, they have quit providing 240-volt adapters for the charging connector, which I found out only upon arriving home and trying to plug in. Since we can't recharge at home at any meaningful rate, we haven't really put it through its paces yet. I've had to order an adapter from the Tesla Store. I called Tesla trying (unsuccessfully) to find one over the weekend and asked them why they didn't provide this $45 part with a $135,000 car. They said it was because almost no one used 240-volt charging. That's, of course, a whopper of a lie, as the great majority of EV owners charge at home with 240-volt lines, and Tesla knows it. We have found no problems with the interior fit and finish, The ride, even with the 21" wheels, is more compliant than our old P90D with 19" wheels, and road and wind noise are well suppressed. The front seats are considerably more comfortable than the old, and the back seat, though somewhat improved, is still not a good long-haul space for adults. The car pulls noticeably to the right on the interstate but much less so on rural roads at the same speed. We haven't figured out yet whether it's an alignment problem or whether the wide tires were tram-lining in the shallow ruts on the interstate pavement. Hate the yoke steering. Turned on the windshield wipers accidentally three times on the drive home. The power is . . . unbelievable. I've owned high-performance cars before, including two V10 Audi R8s, and this is the first car that actually scared me.

@@blakespringpasturemortimer9168, thanks for the update and thorough details. I wonder if Tesla only offers the 240v adapters on the 3, maybe they no longer do, I got mine in 2018 and luckily it came with it. I never installed the wall charger but definitely use the 240 V with the dryer connection. Keep us posted on what they say about the pull to the right at speed. That acceleration sure must be awesome. Also good to hear about the improved suspension and noise reduction. What other vehicles were you considering?

@@M3rewards My brother's 2018 Model 3 came with the 240-volt adapter, as did our 2015 Model S. Five weeks ago Tesla had to replace the Model S connector under our extended warranty, and they supplied the 240-volt adaptor with that replacement. It never crossed my mind when we drove away from the Service Center yesterday that the new car wouldn't have one. BTW, a guy is prepping the car right now for application of Opti-Coat Pro3. I just went out to check whether he's found any significant problems with the paint. He found nothing major, just a few minor imperfections that will come out with the polishing that precedes the Opti-Coat application.

The Merc looks like it was in the sun a bit too long. A half rounded blob. Reminds me of 90s Ford Taurus. I do like the interior. maybe a bit busy, but not over the top. Wish tesla would have done a bit more with the Model S exterior, but it is aging well. Of course , the interior is a matter of personal taste. I'm sure the Merc uses better materials, but the Tesla will outlast it
@michaelrocks15293 жыл бұрын
Outlast it? 💀
@RealErikHansen3 жыл бұрын
Outlast? No idea where that came from. Tesla cars are known to have severe quality issues and are in the Service Center on a regular basis. They don't leave you stranded on the side of the road (except when the superchargers decide to stop working... ask me how I know), but everything else falls apart around you. Roof, floor, window motors, louver motors, door handles, interior & exterior trim pieces, suspension parts, squeaking/rattling interior, etc etc etc. Mercedes EQS is a radically better vehicle... at least right now(maybe I'll hate it in a couple years, but I doubt it based on our experience with other Mercs). Better materials, better fit & finish, everything feels much more solid. You actually get real luxury for the price... unlike tesla.. who just gives you the luxury price tag with a barren interior. Massaging seats, heated and cooled front and rear... Digital Headlights that paint your navigation onto the road in front of you... a HUD that is just another display that you can customize to your liking (with maps, or EV specific stuff, etc)... Auto sunshades on the roof... Hyperscreen(I didn't get the hyperscreen and still love the electronics)... It's just a much better car all around unless all you care about is 0-60... then Tesla wins... but that's it. It even charges faster at DC fast chargers. DC fast charging works the same as Tesla.. just pull up and plug in. A little more of a headache with multiple charigng networks, but you have FAR more options. And you can still use all the Tesla Destination chargers with an adapter you can order from home depot. I use it with my Tesla Wall Charger at home so I don't have to replace it.

@@RealErikHansen Tesla resale is still much higher than Merc. I have never owned a merc so I can't talk to reliability, but I do have a patient that is a Merc service writer. More powertrain issues than your average car. Merc rates at the near lowest in reliability. 27 out of 32. This is drivetrain issues, not fit and finish. Much rather deal with a door seal than a head gasket. Tesla, by far, has the most reliable charging network. Electrify America chargers in my area are all but useless with constant off-line messages. I do have a model 3 for 2 years 30k miles with no service and no issue from new. I have a 2022 Model S LR on order for delivery in March (Elon time, but who knows) I don't discount the issues some Tesla's have but think many cars have very similar issues, but a good PR department can push the issues under the rug. Take this with a grain of salt. I own a Lotus. Fit and finish are not high on the priority for British cars, but Lord it is a sublime driver.
@RealErikHansen2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewwoulfe6579 Great points.. I have heard several people bring up issues related to merc drivetrain issues, however I don't personally know anyone that has. Universally people tend to agree that the build quality both inside and out is extremely good and this is my primary complaint about Tesla. In your example with a bad head gasket.. maybe this is reality.. however it could be argued the Merc would still be in the shop less than any of my Teslas were. But that's gas vs EV... We have no data to argue Tesla will have higher resale, in fact I believe the opposite is true. With the poor quality of used Tesla's.. and the likely high quality of the Merc EV's over the same time period, the Merc will likely be just fine resale wise. You have a valid point related to EA, however they are improving dramatically, and there are several other charging networks to use.. usually not as fast. I tend to feel I have MORE charging options when traveling out of town than I did with Tesla. In my world though, Tesla has left us stranded in the middle of nowhere due to supercharging issues several times so my wife really doesn't care for do out-of-town trips in an EV. She's coming around to the idea with the EQS since it charges faster and has more Fast-charger options.
@andrewwoulfe65792 жыл бұрын
@@RealErikHansen I agree with many of your points but the EV resale Tesla has the highest resale on the market. The model 3 retaining 77% while the Model S retains 58% after 5 years Mercedes across all models is only about 47% retention Now the new EQS may be significantly different we have no data to support it will be much different from Mercedes ICE cars
@lighthousesaunders72423 жыл бұрын
"the Model S is little quicker". The 0 to 60 being 3.0 seconds for the slow version of the Model S and 4.0 seconds for the fastest version of the EQS is not " a little". It's 25% less time on an exponential scale that can never reach 0. That's huge. And that's before mentioning the Plaid which you expediently included in your click bait title.

The comparison is the EQS Vs The Plaid. I am sure the comparison is because of the price point of these cars. The so called click bait title doesn't mention anything about them racing to 60. There are more things to compare cars other than 0-60.... for example... one has poor build quality and the other doesnt. A detached weather strip may be because the car is so fast it drove away and left the glue behind.

But with the Mercedes being all electric, and having computers. That means it has software. And software can be updated. Which means that the Mercedes could get faster in the future by a software update. I guess. And so could Tesla. With that said, I do like the Mercedes. It seems like better quality material was used. I’ve like Mercedes since I was a young boy. Also the customer service is better with Mercedes by leaps and bounds over Tesla. Remember, Mercedes built the very first gas powered car. Now they are competing with the first Electric powered car. Ha.
@barjinhavo3 жыл бұрын
That’s crazy. Does that mean that Tesla is now the new Mercedes by being the first serious brand to dedicate itself to electric vehicles. Their service and quality should definitely get better over the years as they are still a young company
@RealErikHansen3 жыл бұрын
@@barjinhavo We've been hoping for years the quality would improve, and the improvement is at best, marginal. I've been driving EV's for nearly 10 years and our multiple Tesla's have all been in the Service Center countless time. Between the poor quality, and the yoke being forced on us, we jumped ship and replaced our X with an EQS. I can't even begin to do the EQS justice when it comes to how much better it is than _any_ Tesla. If you _only_ care about 0-60, get the Model S. If you want a high quality car from beginning to end, you get the EQS. It's not even close. Thank you Elon for making the ridiculous decision to put a Yoke in your S & X, and continuing with your poor build quality. We'd be driving a plaid S right now, but are _FAR_ happier in the slower EQS. Never looking back unless something radically changes with Tesla.

@@RealErikHansen I definitely feel you and agree with what you’re saying. But to be fair and to cut Tesla some slack : they’re not meant to be a high end company. Their vehicles are expensive because the technology (of electric cars) is still not ready for mass market yet, the technology is not fully developed yet. But Tesla is aiming to become a mass market car as Elon always said, their aim is to produce accessible vehicles for most people. Whereas Mercedes are definitely targeting a higher end market, hence the better quality and attention to detail, imo at least

I don't see why you must compare the EQS against a Tesla. Why not compare a Corvette to a Cadillac?? Two different cars that appeal to two different drivers. I want luxury and comfort, not hair on fire acceleration. If there is a choice of ECO or Sport mode, I doubt I would every select the Sport mode. Any car that can accelerate to 60mph under 5 seconds, will beat 75% of most the cars on the road today. You just can't outrun the cops.
