This is the channel for intelligent and practical analysis, but this episode is especially brilliant in many way.

If one can afford 116k, then one can afford 119k for the full blown AMG! Especially on a lease plan, it won't make a "dent" of difference!

We have the rear wheel drive 450+. We are really enjoying the car. It has plenty of power and that’s not really what the car is about anyway. We have the same colors on the exterior with the blue paint. Hours of the entry level so it doesn’t have the hyper screen but we like it.

Five months in and still loving my 450+ (no hyperscreen)....I don't miss my Tesla at all....
@Ninja64852 ай бұрын
I actually think the 450+ with no hyperscreen is the one you want. Second hand it's the best bang for your buck out there (a year or two old for 60% off, or better), plenty fast and upgradable from MB if you want more power, no glare on the side or wierd angles for the main instrument cluster, the interior design is good enough for the newest S class, the single motor version is known to significantly outperform the stated range from MB, RWD is just a more fun layout; and going back to the interior: some of the designs pick up the Ambient light in really cool ways. The laser etched star interior, for instance, reflects the colored lights at night, and I think looks a little more tasteful than having the whole dash covered in screens. There are benefits and detriments to both, dont get me wrong, but there's a lot to love about the way you can configure a 450+. It's the ugly duckling new that becomes a swan after a year or two of depreciation

For the time being, I think the 400 volt architecture In the Mercedes is actually an advantage. The reason, I say this is that starting next year Mercedes EV’s should be able to use Tesla Superchargers and the vast majority of Tesla chargers are designed to charge 400 volt architecture EV’s and not 800 volt EV’s. I realize that Tesla will eventually retrofit their Supercharger Network with 1000 volt chargers, but that will take a long time.

ITM toll monitors are awesome for commercial carriers but I’m not sure it’s all that useful for private vehicle’s. I put one in every truck for my trucking business to eliminate having 15 toll readers/tags in each truck which made billing a part time job. Stand alone ITM’s are $390 so $200 is a really good price. IF you plan on doing alot of very long multi state road trips the $200 is a must because 1. You avoid long toll lines 2. Avoid late payment fees that go well into the $100’s.

7:53 "One can have the EQS 580 for 119k" Yeah, good look finding a dealer that doesn't try to rake you over the coals with a market adjust of $25k or more on top of the MSRP. 50k mark-up on top of the MSRP if you want the AMG EQS. Or you can pay MSRP for the 450+'s

I'd be curious to see the standard gauge binacle in this car as opposed to the megascreen system. I don't think I've ever seen pictures or a review of it, Perhaps Mercedes doesn't think people will not order it but i would think that in New York City where lots of these vehicles do livery duty for high rollers that some would be ordered without it.

Dash needs some physical buttons and switches for the most frequently used functions. True luxury should not only be seen; but also 'felt' and 'experienced'. Physical controls (made of quality materials) provide the tactility and heft of that 'feeling' of luxury......(not to mention they are probably safer to use than looking at a touchscreen to find the right icon)!
@Fluterra2 жыл бұрын
Very true. And Mercedes gets this, that’s why there are physical buttons in the EQS, unlike Tesla!

At 63 years old I found it difficult for me to drive the new 2021 S class with same type system. No physical buttons and switches. I found my eyes off the road to much, not a safe car for me. I would not buy due to this.

Luxury to me is not needing to do something. Like getting pampered at a spa.

One would assume the point of this trim level is for those who are looking for a low entry point for this product and, therefore, would not be inclined to load it up with options; but the real reason is probably for Mercedes to advertise a low starting price for the EQS range.

Your other tester had a failed door handle. A friend is a Mercedes parts manager. Had one arrive on the transport DEAD. As in the battery pack was dead and would not charge. I see QC is no different than when I worked for them 🤣 That dash as a $7200 option will cost $20,000+ to replace out of warranty when it goes wrong.

I respect all wheel drive cars. I will never buy one. I can accept the death of the manual transmission, but rear drive forever for me.

You should lean on Mercedes to drop in the 900v architecture from the EQXX into all their cars.
@kiwi335d2 күн бұрын
With EV’s, you shouldn’t just consider the EV’s specs in isolation. Importantly, one must consider the public charging infrastructure available to the specific EV. See my comment below discussing charging options regarding 800 volt vs 400 volt architecture relating to today’s charging options.

Is this car made in Germany? So what I pay for delivery is the same,ball park, as a domestic vehicle that cost half as much. Why do we pay so much ?For a product that cost fractions?🤨

RWD would be enough to me. I don’t need these accelerations. Everything below 10 seconds from 0-100 km/h is acceptable to me. That is the value of my current cars and I can live fine with it. 7-9 seconds may be preferable, of course.
@Neojhun2 жыл бұрын
For safety I would prefer the acceleration to be Sub 8sec just to accelerate away get away from a problem. Nothing crazy just reasonable.

Tesla turned the once regal, classy model S into a Dodge Challenger wanna-be with more speed, black accent trim, ugly black wheels and an airplane yoke... WTF???. Mercedes has just filled the gap with the EQS. I'm a former Tesla owner now. I traded it for a 450+. 418 mile range reading at 100% charge and plenty fast enough too. And the rear wheel drive is more than adequate,,,, Great looking car and the driver lane assist distronic extended restart in stop and go traffic (auto pilot) is better than Tesla in some ways... Very impressed so far. And it even came with a steering wheel! This is a car for grown-ups who want every possible creature comfort, class, quiet cabin, great build quality, long battery range with brick and mortar dealerships in every town... And darned near ALL configurations are the same and/or much less money than a Plaid....
