I have all season tires in CA. I could do about 350 miles out of my 400 mile road trip from a 100% charge at a cruising speed of around 80mph. Only needed one 20 minute charging stop which is perfect. I swear, you can feel it cut through the air when you’re going against a headwind.

I enjoyed the review of the car and filming. Great job. I bought a used 2010 I-Miev a number of years ago from a Mitsubishi dealer 47 miles away. Dealer told me that mixed city/freeway use it could go about 60 miles still. Figuring that was a high number and I had to take freeway all the way home (plus no recharge points in those days) I would just make it if I kept to 55mph or less. Sure enough I made it with 5 miles to spare as I took my Dad on a very short trip and got the flashing your about to run out symbol. So my point is, what good are range test videos for EVs anymore? The distance they go is ridiculous far and driving that far to prove it seems a little pointless? But please keep making videos, you do an excellent job, just not sure if range tests are useful anymore.
@johnbuscher
@johnbuscher 2 жыл бұрын
Because some people drive for longer and you lose a different amount of range driving on the highway for each car because of the designs and efficiency. Plus, not everywhere has an abundance of chargers. Good for you that it works well, but this is very good for people cross-shopping and who want the longest range/greatest efficiency. I mean, you realize Car and Driver does the same thing with ICE cars to measure MPG, right?
@telocity
@telocity 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnbuscher actually no I didn't know car and driver did that I assume that they simply use whatever they were given by the manufacturer. Being as every ride has so many variables in it from road conditions traffic style of driving weather ice or battery the drive distance is always going to be variable. Ballpark figures best you can ever do and I suppose somebody's got to test it but it seems a little pointless

Do you have an estimate if the average speed was 60mph?
@ShawnGBR
@ShawnGBR 2 жыл бұрын
Closest thing - using the Inverse Square Law, you can see how much extra energy was used to push air out of the front of the car at 70mph compared to 60mph (as the front of the car is a constant shape that air has to flow over, it's like pushing a shape with a flat 2D face through the wind). 70 squared is 4900. 60 squared is 3600. 4900 / 3600 = 1.361111... It takes just over 36% more power to push through the air at 70mph than 60mph. HOWEVER - air resistance is not the only force. There's the force needed to move the constant mass of the vehicle, and the force to keep accelerating until it reaches its speed. That's the same amount for both masses when switching from rest to in motion (Newton's First Law) but the force to keep accelerating to 70 is more than to 60, because force equals mass times acceleration (Newton's Second Law - and there's more acceleration to get up to 70 than to 60). But yes: doing 60 instead of 70 would have produced better mileage, but not exceeding 36.11111% more miles on the same road.

I still can't believe they green-lit a car this ugly to be sold to the public. That is the ugliest new car I've seen in a long time. It reminds me of when Ford launched the Ranger again a few years ago, and it looked like something straight out of 1999-2002. This thing looks like a 1998 Ford Taurus with a mild facelift.

I’m gonna go ahead and say that nearly 350 miles of range without stopping is plenty. That’s 5 continuous hours of driving at 70mph. I’d be ready for a break by that time for sure. That said, I was hoping for better efficiency given the shape of the car and the fact that it is only RWD. Tesla achieves better efficiency than this without making their cars look like a blob. Better efficiency would mean that they could use a smaller battery and still get the same range.

Tesla turned the once regal, high-class model S into a Zoom-Zoom Dodge Challenger wanna-be with more speed, black accent trim, ugly black wheels and an airplane yoke... WTF???. Mercedes has just filled the gap with the EQS. I'm a former Tesla owner now. I traded it for a 450+. 424 mile range reading at 100% charge and plenty fast enough too. Great looking car... The driver lane assist distronic extended restart in stop and go traffic (auto pilot) is better than Tesla in some ways... Very impressed so far. And it even came with a steering wheel! This is a car for grown-ups who want every possible creature comfort, class, quiet cabin, great build quality, long battery range with brick and mortar dealerships in every town... And damned near ALL configurations are the same and/or much less money than a Plaid....

I mean I know that American dealerships are a special thing that are beyond my understanding. I know German dealerships. And apparently not many German dealerships are not realy ready for live repairs... of EVs or repairs of the EV part of Hybrids.... So if it's the same in the USA, you might basically get a rental car and they ship your car to be repaired at the factory or maybe some special Manufacturer repair center in your country if the car is imported. At least you get a dealer whose throat you can choke if the car sucks. Unlike with Tesla where you have to hate your self for every problem the car has. I guess we need way more EVs to get more tradesmen familiar in repairing or checking on them.
@jdmoney1000
@jdmoney1000 2 жыл бұрын
@@TremereTT yes, good points. We have a Tesla repair center very close to where we live. But wait times for appointments can be very long. In all fairness, Tesla is usually good about giving you a rental car or $100 of free Uber money. But that is once your car is in the shop. And who knows how long it might have to be there. The part that I don’t like is, you cannot get a real person on the phone to discuss problems. This is very frustrating and has really turned off a lot of people including me about how Tesla operates…

I appreciate the effort and your time, however, you, and including almost ALL who are making those tests and reviews, you and all of the others, mostly, are providing false estimates to real world use. First of all, you are not supposed to be charging your EV at 100% every day, second, you’re DEFINITELY NOT SUPPOSED TO DRAIN THE BATTERIES TO ZERO % Therefore, when you subtract 20% of the top end, and 20% of the lower end, now we have 40% gone. So, when the battery of this car has 108 kWh battery and it gave us “ on a brand new car “ before any battery degradation, we can estimate: at 100% with a 108 kWh battery and a 340 miles = for 3.14 kWh we get 1 mile , because, 3.14 x 108 = 399 miles So if we subtract 40% from the 108 kWh batteries, now we have an actual 64.8 kWh battery 64.8 kWh x 3.14 = 203 miles is what this car has Based on charging it daily 80% and not letting the battery drain below 20% and that’s what we would get Therefore, this car in reality has a 200 miles range. NOT 340 miles. Now, on a long trip, occasionally, you may need to charge this car at 100%, fine, sure you can do that “ occasionally” and therefore, the math now is, we subtract 20% from the 108 kWh battery, now we have an 86 kWh 86 kWh x 3.14 = 270 miles assuming we charge at 100%, and we go down on the battery till 20% low This is how all EV tests should be conducted, but no one is doing it, which is misleading and providing false numbers. Let alone the range on the display is NEVER accurate, what’s accurate is that your actual mileage log that you need to take a note of it once you begin calculating any test, don’t forget that on average, you also are going to lose between 1% - 2% on battery capacity due to degradation, that’s just chemistry and physics that there is no other way to go round it in this time of age and technology, perhaps things would improve in the future.

@Wised1000 2 жыл бұрын
No and no. We have no idea how far a Lucid air would go on snow tires. Having a 800v system does not mean 50% faster. 800V is a peak power figure (which cannot be achieved at any existing charger FYI). The fact is, no car can charge from 10 to 80 any faster than EQS. The reason is that although the EQS has a lower peak charge it can bulk charge at the same or faster avg charging rate as any other 800V system. Its all about the curve. The peak is a useless statistic when bulk charging. The EQS can provide 180 miles or so in 15 minutes.
@jerrybmwm5
