@@realscience948 the rust thing is a bit of a heart breaker, a 5 year old Suzuki tends to look much worse than a 10 year old Honda, it's often not actually going to cause any structural/functional issues but it does kill the "look back" appeal of the bike.

I came from the Ninja 1000sx and just bought the GT in red. I believe it's more of a rider's bike. Less riding aids and more you. Whilst I loved the Ninja, don't get me wrong, it just doesn't thrill me quite as well. And that candy red is so beautiful. No matter what, if you choose this or the ninja, you're getting a great bike. With little plus and minus against each other but ultimately the same end result. Happy and safe riding out there to everyone.

Excellent review. Bike looks, sounds and seems to perform great. My only complaint would be that a sport tourer with a chain final drive needs a factory centerstand.
@thinkdunson
@thinkdunson 2 жыл бұрын
i would disagree. a center stand is not sporty. you're talking about the adv style of tourer, which some also call a sport tourer. i disagree with that as well. i think an adv that's intended only for short/mild off roading, like the versys 1000, should be classified as an adventure tourer, not a sport tourer, and there's where you'll find a center stand.
@davideulivieri5138

@@thinkdunson You make a good point, John, but when I go sport touring (not adv touring) I tend to be on the road for long stretches and servicing the chain in a campground or motel parking lot without a centerstand gets old real quick at my age (62yo.) @@thinkdunson I tend to agree with you on bike classification. However, I have a 11' Triumph Sprint GT that matches this bike closer than any listed in the video. It is a true Sport Tourer and has a center stand as standard equipment. If you are on tour and don't have access to your paddock stand, a center stand is fantastic to have for maintenance (chain tension/lube - oil changes) and even ideal for parking. It doesn't hamper performance in any way! Honestly the fact that it doesn't have a center stand is the reason I wouldn't buy it.😉

With today's chains, coupled with fantastic long-lasting products like chain waxes, I don't mind the infrequent hassle. The trade-off of having to reroute the exhaust and add a heavy stand would not be worth it for me. I'm on a 1000SX with the same (non)issue.

I believe there's still a market for SPORT-touring bikes instead of just ADV bikes. Just like Ford and GM have kept the Mustang and Camaro while ditching all their other cars in favor of SUVs and pickups. Something that would be a deal breaker though is insurance premiums. I was going to get a Ninja 1000 but the insurance company priced it the same as the ZX-10R, meaning I'd have to pay more for insurance monthly than I currently pay annually for 4 bikes, one of which was a Triumph Sprint ST until recently. Hopefully the insurance companies won't see GSX and think GSX-R and price the insurance premiums like they've done with the Ninja 1000. Insurance premiums could be what's pushing people to the ADV category. Whenever I wanted to get the Ninja 1000, which I couldn't afford because of the insurance, I could have gotten the Versys 1000 (same motor!) without much of an increase to the insurance premiums I was already paying. So stupid!

1:30 and that's not just Suzuki! Most Japanese car/motorcycle manufacturers have roots in very different areas, thats because of the nature as to how japanese companies work. They are more like 'tech conglomerates' that have many branches in different areas. For example also Toyota started with looms as well (when I visited their museum I was surprised to see that more than half of the museum was dedicated to textile stuff and not cars). I believe Kawasaki started with ship building, and of course, Yamaha started with organs/pianos (still have the tuning forks in their logo).

Great review!. Love the roads. Tempted by the naked version. Not a big tourer , more winding back roads. Not convinced by the screen and weight. The GSX S1000 might be a great option.

I like it. I could see having this along side my FJR. Maybe not replacing it. I don't think it would do as well for all day two up riding, and I didn't see a good place for mounting a top case. But for single riding it looks like a blast.

Great review on a very competent bike. The only thing it really needs is an aftermarket electric windscreen adjustment. And better tires according to the Brit-ish press something you didn't comment on interestingly.

Excellent content. I am currently contacting dealers to get a GT+. This review confirms my initial opinion that it will suit my interests. I now have two Suzukis, a Hayabusa and a Bandit, and both have been exceptionally reliable.

Excellent review, really thorough & a great value bike too. I also liked the Suzuki history & basic economics of the company as well. Most people are unaware of any of that & I think it's important to understand before you buy in to the brand. Suzuki are about bang for your buck & while they may not innovate much anymore, they produce great value, characterful & bulletproof bikes with a 3 year warranty. Simple.

There's another close competitor on this one, the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello, that also has a side pannier options. I think you can make a shootout between this one vs. Ninja 1000SX vs. V100 Mandello vs. Tracer 900GT+

Hi Ian, watching this excellent review the 2nd time. You seem to try to speed-up the review in between until you almost out of breath. What I like at your reviews is the thoroughness. Take your time. Before I am spending the money for a new bike, I definitely invest 45 min or more to enjoy a detailed and balanced review. Keep them coming.

A guy in our riding group has just bought one of these and it really has caught the attention of most of the guys and a couple are looking at them for their next bike. While a bit older and without some of the modern technology I think the Tiger 1050 is a similar competitor.

When I watch one of these review videos on the GSXS1000GT and know for a fact I am going to hear the word "mushy"... Ugh! Let me tell you, the breaks are fine, they work great, I have 5k miles on mine and they have stopped me every single time, besides, you are supposed to use both the front and the rear according to the manual.

I’ve been riding a 2018 Suzuki VStrom 650XT (full power version in Australia) for the past 5 years. Very happy with it but looking to get a second motorcycle with a quick shifter and more enthusiastic power for urban transport. VStrom is still my go to for touring and light off-road adventures and is so hard to beat. A test ride of a 2022 GSX1000 GT proved it to be a compelling machine in its own right. Notably, excellent quick shifter, strong linear power and predictable handling. TFT is very clear and includes ambient temperature. Lower seat height compared to the VStrom is a benefit around town. Downsides of the GSXer for me after a 45 minute test ride were that it’s vibey through the foot pegs across the rev range, there appeared to be noticeable radiation from the catalytic converter on the left calf, fan triggers quickly due to engine heat even in mild spring temperatures in low to mid 20s (centigrade), more forward sporty handle bar position likely to be fatiguing on hands and wrists after an hour or so, brakes are spongey and feel vague although they stop okay under normal braking. No centre stand option would be a long-term frustration. In summary, if it was less vibey and had a centre stand I’d buy one for urban use, but perhaps I’ve been spoilt after years on the VStrom!

I have my 2021 Moto Guzzi 85TT and 2004 Honda 1100XX Super Blackbird. If I will travel mainly in tarmac, I always choose Blackbird even it doesn't have Cruise, ABS or traction control. There are no adv bike which is very stable at constant speeds over +70mph/100kmh long travels. Blackbird absolutely wins in corners, straightline and it is as stable as an arrow, even in speeds over 120mph/200kmh. It feels much calmer to ride in highway speeds, to the point you find yourself yawning. Only downside is you want to speed up to about 90mph. At 100mph it feels exactly like you are travelling on adv bike at 50 to 60mph. It is mainly the riding position, it is unnatural, if you don't have any leaning angle towards the wind. Even if the wind hits your helmet it doesn't feel bad at all, if your position is more forward. I certainly suggest to try sport tourers for everyone who mainly ride in tarmac. They feel much, much safer and calm. The more weight, the better, if it's under 600lbs. I don't understand people, who wants bikes to be lighter. Heavier bikes are more stable no matter the speed. To me, it is exactly as comfortable to ride in traffic or in the city if the bike is moped, adv, sport bike or Touring Bike. I really feel people are exaggerating you can't ride sport tourers in city traffic. Why? They are much more stable when braking or standing still in the traffic lights. Heavy doesn't mean poor handling if the bike has low centre of gravity. I feel it helps the low speed handling immensely compared to advs. Advs are tall and you don't have enough pressure to the handlebars, because riding position is too straight up.

Great to see a comparison made to the F900XR (Rather than simply the S1000XR which is in an entirely different price bracket). I'm just about to make the switch from the F900xr over to this bike. The BMW has all the bells and whistles in terms of tech, but Id happily give a few of them up for the engine and performance of this!

IMHO a description of the subjective feeling of the handling is crucial for a review of this kind of bike. That's the hardest part to guess from a spec sheet. (The hardest part to find words for also, reckon.)

I just took delivery in May2022 my new out of crate silver '20 Katana 1000, adding to my original sport tourer '07 Bandit 1250S in the stable. That K5 engine is awesome. I would've looked at the GT+, if I let go of my Bandit. My local dealer had a price on the Katana I couldn't turn down! I've been a Suzuki rider since 1988: '82 GS1100E, '75 GT750 & '86 GSX-R1100...

I like it. I definitely agree with you about the styling of the front end. Still not a bad looking bike. I'd give up the 50 extra ponies for the AT. The AT will do anything the Suzuki will do, except for handling the road a little better. AT will probably have the better riding position. But the big thing is that when you see some dirt, it's bye-bye to Suzuki. AT takes it in the looks dept. also
