My father in law has the mitsushitty PHEV. They fill up once a month, they love it. I am thinking of going with a PHEV as my next vehicle because going full EV is not an option for me as the condo corporation won’t allow me to install a charging station in my garage and the company I work for don’t own the building, so the owners won’t install chargers stations either. So I will be stuck using an extension cord in my garage. But that’s fine especially now with gas nearly $2 a litre up here in Ontario.

Great video. Could you please explain in more detail what the Auto EV button does (compare to, say, EV)? Thanks
@brianruperti2 жыл бұрын
In Toyotas words: “EV Auto Mode intelligently selects between EV and hybrid driving based on demand and driving conditions to help optimize your efficiency. HV Mode combines the gas engine and electrical power from the HV battery to most efficiently drive RAV4 Prime.” EV just means engine is off. EV auto means it does what’s most optimal at that time. Hope that helps
@lepierre872 жыл бұрын
@@brianruperti Thanks Brian. So - unless I'm missing something - when the battery has some charge, auto EV and EV are the same: the car works on all electric. In EV mode, the car automatically switches to HV when the battery goes down, and presumably auto EV will do the same. So, unless Auto EV behaves differently to EV when there is electrical power available, aren't they just the same?
@mwerner94592 жыл бұрын
If you accelerate hard or climb a steep hill in auto mode, it will use the gas motor temporarily. In ev mode, it will do it's best w ev only.

I went to put money done that afternoon and they told me it was $7K over MSRP and the person that took the call should not have told me that. @@brianruperti The only reason I bought this SE Prime is because I had a XSE Hybrid with less than 5000 miles that got totaled by someone running a red light. Boy it was tough finding any new car to replace the XSE, I preferred a new car because most used cars are price equal to or higher than a new but with high mileage. The one lucky thing is the insurance paid me about $12,000 more then I paid for the XSE new. It took a couple of months to get this car but my XSE Hybrid has the remote start through "connected services" which is free for one year and I also have a friend that bought a XSE Prime about a week before I got the SE Prime, he says his car has remote start through "connected services" for what Toyota cars a trial period. Hello, Brian, I have one question after watching this video. First, I would like to thank you for the detailed review of the car! I have been watching several of your videos and they are really helpful in terms of showing how-to-s on different features. This is expecially useful in times when people can hardly get to one of these cars even for a test drive. I have already ordered a Rav4 Plug-in which is expected to arrive this summer but I will be able to make a test drive next month as the local Toyota dealership is still waiting for the test car (I drove the regular Hybrid version for test drive before making the order in January). Now to my question. I have notice that the 2022 model has upgraded its USB ports to USB-C which may be seen for both the ports below the arm rest and the ports for the back seats. However, you did not open the USB cover for the main port that is used for Android Auto. Is this Android Auto port USB-C or it is using the old USB-A standard? Thanks again for the information you provide in the video and in its comment section!

@@mwerner9459 Thanks M Werner. If the gas engine is hardy ever used or not used at all, do you think oil change be less often than hybrid version?
@mwerner94592 жыл бұрын
@@cp-chipheo9528 It's still a good idea to change the oil every six months. All cars, and Toyotas in particular, let a small amount of gasoline into the oil compartment during operation. Piston rings try to prevent this but aren't 100%. Modern engines are worse in search of efficiency. The gas breaks down the oil over time.
@mwerner94592 жыл бұрын
@@cp-chipheo9528 Maybe if you knew the motor didn't operate at all, you'd be fine. Be aware that the engine is always used during front defrosting, however. It's a VERY complex engine (but hopefully with the usual Toyota reliability). Take care of it.

Thanks for the video!! I'm looking into maybe buying a Rav4 PlugIn (as it's called here in Europe), trying to figure out wether this car is for our family or not. Looking at in on the paper everything looks ok. Test drove it the other day. Check on that too. What really drives the whole experience down for me is the infotainment system and the driver information. Wow it really feels so old school and the screen itself feels really outdated for a 2022 car with a hefty price tag. With that said, it's a really nice car with great efficiancy and a feeling of quality that will last. Can't really decide on what to do right now.

Hi Brian. My wife and I are purchasing one of these (ordered through the dealership here in Ohio). This video was the most comprehensive look I've seen - and I've done a lot of looking! I loved that you did the SE specifically. This car (in blue) is the exact vehicle we want. We are trading in her 2007 Cobalt (I'm still driving the 2004 Wrangler). Neither vehicle has any frills (manual door locks, crank windows, stick shift, no Bluetooth - well, I replaced the stock radio in the Jeep and it does). Questions:: If you connect via Car Play (wife) or Assistant (me), would you still need to connect via Bluetooth? If she is connected via Car Play (driving) and we want to listen to podcasts on my phone, I would just connect that via the Bluetooth, right? Again, thanks for such a well-done video. Your camera skills were also excellent (loved when you used your fingers to show the body shape). -j.p.

*Excellent video -4 questions Question (1) Does the charging cord that comes with the car only do 120volt , where you would have to buy another cord for the 240 volt charging option????* also Question (2): Can a 6 foot person lye down in back with the seats down with a mattress there??? Question (3). Can you charge the vehicle in the rain without getting shocked when you pull out the plug???? Question (4). Does it have a full size spare tire, or just a tire repair kit??? Thank you*
@brianruperti2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! 1.) Not sure on the cord have to do some digging for you. 2.) With the front seats forward it will be a tight fit but can be done. 3.) It’s designed to operate in the rain 4.) The SE we stock here have a spare tire Hope that helps

The most informative video about model SE 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. I consider buying this vehicle. What’s the waiting period for this car? When Toyota is going to release on a market Sienna plug-in? Thx 🙏🏻, great video.

Nice video Sadly no way anywhere to get it. I spent the entire today to get an phev, without a chance. It’s either a minimum of 6 months to a year of waiting. Even for a regular hybrid or the most basic rav4, it’s impossible to get one now. So yes, the rav4 might the best suv on the market, but not available anywhere

Why don't they put better interior colors in prime? Black is very boring.
@brianruperti2 жыл бұрын
If I were to guess it’s because the prime series is being advertised as the sportiest version since there only exists the SE or the XSE. I have found that typically on a sportier version of a car, the interior is usually black. That’s my wild guess.
