#CoupleCarComparison
This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Toyota Venza hybrid versus the new Lexus NX350h hybrid. Both are compact premium SUVs. The Venza is 3” longer than the NX 350h. They both have about the same front legroom but the Venza has almost 2” more 2nd row legroom and an extra 6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 8.2 cubic feet of overall cargo capacity. Fuel economy, they are very close, the NX does a little bit better in the city at 5.7L/100 km, 41 MPG compared to the Venza at 5.9L/100km, 40 MPG. They both get 6.4L/100 km, 37 MPG on the highway. The Venza has a fixed glass roof, the NX no moonroof or panoramic sunroof on the base model, the moonroof is available in the Premium Package for $1500 CAD/$3,050 USD and the Panoramic sunroof in the Luxury package for an extra $6,500 CAD/$7,450 USD. The Venza top trim comes with front and rear parking sensors, a wireless charger, head-up display, a bird’s eye view camera and a power rear door with kick-sensor. The NX hybrid has these features available on higher trims. The Venza has a spare tire and 19” wheels, the NX run-flat tires and 18” wheels. Both have a leatherette interior, the Venza has a larger 12.3” touchscreen with touch sensitive controls, the NX Hybrid, 9.8” with buttons. The Venza has no offering of heated rear seats or wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, only wired; these features are available in the Lexus. The Venza is missing some safety features that the base 350h has including, vehicle sway warning, risk avoidance emergency steer assist, road sign assist, a vehicle security system and safe exist assist which works in conjunction with the digital latch system scanning the area for pedestrians, cyclists and cars before opening the door. Advanced Park is also available on the NX Hybrid. The Venza top trim is $48,290/$40,380 USD and the NX 350h base model is $49,900 CAD/$42,125 USD. I recommend adding the premium package on the NX for extra features like the moonroof to make it more competitive with the Venza. It is priced at $51,400 CAD/$45,175 USD.

Good to see this comparison as I was doing the same thing last year. The NX wasn't out yet, and I had a feeling the price gap between well equipped models would be too much for me to justify. A local dealer had a Limited Venza on the lot so I ended up buying it (likely good timing since availability now is tough). I've had my Venza now for about 6 months and don't regret it one bit. Lifetime fuel economy so far is 6.5L/100kms which is lower than the subcompact car it replaced. Like many reviewers, I'd prefer knobs/dials for my infotainment/HVAC controls, but you do get used them fairly quick. Also, I'm more of a "set it and forget it' kind of user so I'm not adjusting things that often anyway. One thing I did notice is the steering with the stock tires felt somewhat "heavy". I replaced the stock tires with Michelin Cross Climate 2 All Weather tires and find they lighten up the steering to feel more "normal/neutral". I'd recommend either vehicle (since they are very similar) to anyone considering them. As Zach said, they are both reliable, no hassle vehicles to own, and either will still be worth something when you sell it.

I ordered a ‘22 Venza Limited in May and finally brought it home last week. So far it’s amazing, and people ask me a lot of questions about it. The funky sounds it makes when reversing and the electric motors always makes for an interesting drive! My dislike is the lack of buttons, especially the volume knob and radio station scan buttons. Also, there is no trash bin or storage areas for my passenger’s sunglasses. My Ford Edge had tons of compartments and a much easier-to-reach touch screen. However, I can get over 50 miles to the gallon easily in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeway headed for downtown Dallas, which is why I bought it. 🙂 The price for all you get can’t be beat!

We’ve owned at least four RX350 Lexus vehicles, very silky drive practical , we now drive a hybrid Venza , it rides and drives just as well as a Lexus , Toyota makes both , the technology in the Venza is first class , and fit and finish ,and in some respects better than the Lexus ;the price difference is quite apparent, we still like Lexus brand ,but can’t quite bring ourselves to spend the $ difference,For us the Limited Venza is an extremely good handling, smooth ride , and full of technology.it’s driving characteristics are way better than smooth silky RX350 , No roll when cornering. This review makes a lot of interesting points, Lexus may well have improved the NX , but we feel the better deal for our money is the Venza . Just as an add on when the weather is warmer we’ve had 53mpg , when colder temps 45-48mpg , we don’t have a lead right foot .

Thanks Andrea for your video on the Venza. I got rid of my 2021 Rav 4 Hybrid for the 2021 Venza (Harrier) Limited. I love all the technology and all the stuff that the RAV 4 don't have. Unfortunately my limited version does not have the moon roof that I wanted but I can't rave enough on my Venza. It is so comfortable, smooth and a good looking car. I would love a RX350 but the price is ridiculous. There are couple of more improvements that I wished this Venza has. If you saw the China's verison of their Venza, it has nice hot front grill, with fog lights. That is what is missing of this current Venza.

This was a really, really interesting comparison! These two particular CUV‘s always go to the top of my list when I start thinking about a future new car purchase. It would be a hard decision for me between these two! The advantage of the NX to me, as I haven’t been able to test drive one yet, is the shorter length to fit in my small garage. It is a little bit shorter than the Venza. But I have to say, to be able to get the Venza limited with the larger wheels, the fixed pano roof, which are my things that I would want, I would have to go all the way up to 50 grand at least to get that on the NX luxury package versus the Venza at around 43,000 and change with the tech package which gives you the heads up display and the fixed pano roof! Hard decisions to make. I’ve been driving my Lexus for almost 12 years now so I’ve been a Lexus loyal customer since 2006 with two different RX’s. It would be kind of difficult to go away from the brand for me🤷‍♀️

Having owned a '21 Venza and just got a' 23 NX350h, I recommend the Venza LE. You get physical buttons and the overall drive is comparable to the NX350h. Build quality is also much better on the Venza since it's Japanese made. If you are really into the luxury features, then get the NX350h Premium. It's only $2k more than the Venza Limited and you get more power and a more rigid structure. The 18in wheels give you a very smooth and quiet ride even though it has runflats.

I would consider going the Lexus route for a few reasons. The paint quality and the colour options are far superior (in my opinion), the extra year of warranty and (quite often overlooked) quality and consistency of absolutely amazing dealer service (free service loaner alone!). And of course...the Badge. Thanks for another excellent comparison video. It was a close one!

I got news for ya. The Lexus NX is painted in the Cambridge plant. Where they also build the Rav 4. Same paint shop. A few things may be different. But I would use that as a decision point. 1 more thing... Price our an oil change for a Toyota Venza and then a Lexus. BIG difference. Same oil, same filter. But you pay $$ for the Lexus dealer to kiss your butt.

This comparison is excellent! Well done Andrea and Zach. I've narrowed my choices to these 2 vehicles because of the fuel economy, size, reliability and styling. I think a fully loaded Venza is very comparable to a base NX and all the exterior, interior and driving features reviewed are spot on. It doesn't make the decision any easier but this video points out all the subtle differences between the two.

Venza Limited for me, that's what I went with. A ton of tech and still great quality and comfort. There are definitely some interior finishing touches (door handles, some hard plastics) that are a little lacking where they cut costs compared to the Lexus, but overall was more value for the money for me. Next time I'll probably save a bit more and spring for the RX350h, skipping over the NX.

The Venza has much better build quality. While I love my NX350h, it does have some gaps between the trims. I wouldn't mind going back to my 2021 Venza LE. Both are great, but the Venza, especially the LE gives you a much better value.

I had a 2021 Rav 4 XLE premium that I traded for a crown XLE 5 months ago and i traded that for a Venza limited 2022 used SUV. I love the ride of a crown and the infotainment system but overall i bought this for the getting in and out easier and Hybrid and smaller to park than a crown as we are older couple. I am booking a RAV4 prime plug in and till then hopefully I will use this used 2022 Venza Limited. A lot more I like in this than my XLE crown.

[Lack of a spare tire and noisy expensive run flat tires are the particular issues for me re the Lexus as well as the lack of front and rear parking sensors on our Canadian version. It would also be easier if the NX did not look about 90% the same as the previous 2015/2021 model of which there are so many about.]

I’m waiting for my Lexus 350h, ordered July last year. Didn’t go for the Tazumi ? but the model below. We don’t get the Toyota model here in the UK so I can’t compare. Great video & interesting comparisons. 👌 The rear headroom in the NX was less than I expected, but not a deal breaker as there are two of us ! For the limited time it’s got 4 in they will have to get neck ache in the back 😂 I was very impressed with the build quality (mine is being built in Japan) couldn’t fault the quality of the test vehicle. Compared to an Audi it’s much nicer and less “TUTONIC” but for years I went for TUTONIC. Still drive a VW TRoc and love it. There is just something about the Lexus. I know it’s more expensive than your model comparison with the Toyota, don’t get me wrong Toyota are very good vehicles & the Land Cruiser is ultra reliable. My mum had Corollas etc and they are reliable and don’t depreciate as much as many cars. We just found the quality of the Lexus was evident everywhere. The dealership was on another level compared to our VW dealer here, not that they are bad but the Lexus experience was so much better. They will offer Free collect or free loan car, also free parking and a free drop off in town at ANY time we want to go into town, so no worries about parking and coming back to a dint or scrape in the multi story car parks that seem to have just about enough width to park a Smart Car ! My only wish is the colour selection was a little more adventurous in the Lexus ! I am going with the metallic white, not had a white car since Australia in the 1970s when we had a white Holden and dad had a white Ford Ute. Really looking forward to this vehicle, having ordered last year the price was fixed with a £500 deposit and quite pleased we did as the price has already gone up this year here in England. Just hope when we do take delivery it’s still possible to drive a car or will the WEF & Klaus’s Apostles have banned cars by then ! Happy motoring & keep up the down to earth informative & thorough reviews 👌

How important is having a birds eye/surround view camera ? Is it like a power tail gate, that once having one, you wouldn’t have a car without it? On my Subaru with its great visibility, it doesn’t seem necessary. On these newer more aerodynamic cars it seems more useful. Great review. I’m leaning towards the Venza limited without glass roof. Excellent report, much appreciated! I recently got a 2022 Lexus ES300h with lovely looking 18 inch wheels (17 inch are standard) and 235/45 R18 Performance tires. I've been reading in Consumer Reports, and surmise that there are three kinds of tires commonly sold: All Season Radials, Performance Radials, and Ultra-Performance Radials. The Ultra ones have more road noise and wear out fast, but give the best handling I'm told. They ride more rough too. The performance radials on my car are very quiet indeed but that might be the way the car is built. Wow, it is SO quiet on the highway! Handling is superb. In comparison, the Tesla Model 3 with 18 inch wheels rides more rough and has more road noise; remember, the electric motors are extremely quiet. All season radials, I understand, are the Chevy of tires. In future I'll look for performance radials and surely avoid the ultra-high performance ones. Those look like fat pancakes too! :) I looked inside a 2022 NX but the cabin seemed kind of cramped so I walked away---to the ES300h, and fell in love. I noted that your NX had a small screen; my strong suggestion is: do NOT settle for anything less than a 10 inch screen; 12 inch is best. Even the graphic quality of the 8 inch available on the ES series is just not as sharp and colorful as the new 12 inch screen. The wide screen is not just luxury; you can have a mini screen on the right that gives you various kinds of info like what music is playing, your current MPG and range, hybrid performance, etc. What I DON'T like about the Venza is that the screen looks like someone stuck on a Galaxy Tablet as an afterthought, whereas with the new NX the screen is beautifully blended into the dash. Same goes for the current Avalon, may it rest in peace after this fall!!!

I wanted to inform anyone considering a new Venza that I currently have a 2021 Toyota Venza XLE and the position of the rear signal lights are on the bottom bumper which is an extremely dangerous location when travelling on our northern Ontario hwys. I clear off my vehicle from snow before use and the amount of snow that collects on the back of the vehicle and covers the signal lights is seriously concerning for you and the traffic behind you. Also, the interior infotainment set-up on the Venza is annoying when having to look for the buttons you need when wanting just the Home screen, Audio screen, or temperature options to show. The temperature setting options are especially annoying to find and change. I have a 2022 Lexus NX 350h Executive package on order and I'm looking forward to this vehicle and all the great options, especially the ease of use the infotainment set-up. The buttons for Driver 1 and 2 don't seem to be working at all (yes I have read the manual, watched videos and gone back to the sales person...next is to get checked at servicing). The set up for the driver seat/steering wheel to move when entering or exiting the vehicle also don't seem to be working. More concerning is the occasional creaks/squeaks we have heard when going over bumps/rough roads. All things we will get checked at the first servicing.

I so value and appreciate your reviews. I'm with you on the exterior of the Venza looking better. The NX is so totally and completely blech!🤮 Put the NX interior in the Venza and you have a stunning vehicle! I love the panoramic fixed sunroof with the frost option. This allows light without the bugs and noise. C'mon Lexus! Catch up with your mother brand! This is a great feature and I'm surprised it isn't included in your luxury line. As for the Lexus, of course you'll get a more refined vehicle. It's a Lexus after all. However, I would skip the NX and get the RX (back to body design). As far as saying to people, "I drive a Lexus over Toyota". I have a Lexus now and thinking I'll get the 2024 RX. Recently a friend said, "why do you want to spend so much on a car when you work from home and your market is 2-miles away?!". Good point! It's totally an ego thing.🤯 Ego says Lexus. Rational and responsible me says Toyota. However, as any Lexus owner will tell you, the real value isn't seen when you buy a Lexus, it's 10 years later when it's still running strong! 💪💪💪

I like the features of the Venza limited like heads up display and panoramic camera that the NX 350h premium in the US does not have unless you go luxury. HOWEVER the deal breaker for me is the soft material center console on the Venza. It is a stain machine. It should be a hard console so you can use it like most cars and the NX. The NX premium in the US has the 14 inch screen added as an option and Lexus IS delivering most of their premium trims with the 14 inch screen. I like the more premium look of the NX so I Choose the NX 350h. That center console with the little drawer and flat surface wins!

Our local Hertz had Venza available so we rented it for 2 days. Really good mpg. However it gets really loud after 75-70 mph. You don’t need even look at the dashboard. Once you start to hear wind outside - you know you are at 65. It’s really sad that it starts to sound like a plane. I wonder if Toyota could do anything about this tremendous wind howl. But in the city it’s so good with the battery power below 20 mph and all the red light stops.

It's all in the details. Lexus uses thicker sound deadening glass in their vehicles. Check it out. There are many other things that are not readily apparent that do drive up the price, but that also contribute to the quality and longevity of the vehicle. No doubt there is some premium built in because it is a Lexus, but Toyota generally gives you pretty close to what you pay for. Lexus included.

The Lexus interior is nice but I just don't like the glossy black around the screen area of the dash. It just doesn't look upmarket and really stands out from the matte look of the rest of the interior. The Venza overall looks nice and the exterior is almost too Lexus like. The interior is more Toyota though but I like the lower glossy black plastic look. Overall, the Venza may have the better visibility and usability and depending on how close they drive, if the Lexus doesn't offer measurable quietness and smoothness, then the Venza seems the more sensible choice.
