A lot of people complaining about the "poor" hybrid gas mileage in the winter. I would happily take 30 mpg for 3-4 months and 40 mpg the other 8-9. Yeesh.

SG, I've commented on it before and I know really it's a small thing but man oh man do I love the fact that you make a point to mention the source of the material and labor for your shirts. Grey products are so normalized nowadays and I can't stress enough how important it is to give back to American labor when you can. I really hope more small business stands up and starts producing things ethically and consciously once again, it starts with T-Shirts and hopefully we'll get back electronic manufacturing sometime in the coming future.

We bought a '21 Venza XLE back in October, and my wife has just over 4k miles on it now. It's perfect for her. It replaced a 2011 Acura RDX, and she's pleased with the gas mileage of the Venza, and that she only has to fill it up every couple of weeks. As Jack said, for an everyday cruiser, it's perfect. The XLE has everything we wanted (heated steering wheel was important to my wife, but is no longer available on the '22 XLE), and we avoided the capacitive touch controls. We both prefer physical knobs/buttons, and Toyota did a nice job with the Venza.

This deserves a lot of credit for achieving what it sets out to do very well. Very much a modern interpretation of the classic Toyota philosophy - restrained and conservative aesthetics, spacious and usable interior (ok, maybe some of that could be improved), tried and true hybrid powertrain with adequate power, and driving dynamics that are the utmost in comfort with no sporting pretensions. Might not be what most viewers of this channel are looking for, but will satisfy many ordinary buyers, for sure.

I have a 2022 loaded Venza Limited. Its Goldilocks, not too big or small. The hybrid drivetrain actually fits this car. On my previous Lexus ES300H it’s too weak. The new Venza has most of the bells and whistles of a Lexus, but bigger and cheaper than a NX. I really like it.

The Toyota Hybrid system is one of the best things I've ever experienced in auto engineering period. Admittedly, the slower ones aren't that fun to drive, but as a workaround I bought myself a Lexus GS450h; best of both worlds. In addition to my own car, I've had a chance to drive almost all of them, the Yaris hybrid, The Prius and Prius +, the Corolla (1.8), the Rav4. All of them are very smooth and relaxing to drive and get great mileage, on top of being extremely reliable. I have never missed having 'real' gears, by this point I have become fully convinced that this system is just better than having traditional gears, and cruising on the highway at 1100rpm is just the cherry on top. Even the 2022 S-Class hybrid can't get the gas mileage of my 2015 car, and that car has a smaller engine too.
@grisa12345
@grisa12345 2 жыл бұрын
The best thing about the CVT is that it’s perfectly under-stressed at highway cruising. I love it honestly, and floor my Sienna and Prius all the time without bracing for a rough downshift-and I know Toyota builds it to last.
@moloono1
@moloono1 2 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t agree more. Even better is that the Toyota CVT system is a planetary gear system that is built to last, unlike the belt-driven systems that other manufacturers use (Nissan) and often fail. That’s why you see so many Prius with over 300,000 miles on the original transmissions. Toyota quality standards are second to none.

@@grisa12345 Yep, sometimes I can barely help laughing maniacally when I'm sitting at 1200rpm on the highway in ultimate relaxation mode. I remember that my cars from the 90s (all 5 speed manuals) were always sitting at 3000rpm @100km/h, which was very uncomfortable.
@bradhaines3142
@bradhaines3142 2 жыл бұрын
smaller engine needs to try harder to put out the same power as a bigger engine. there's a sweet spot in every engine of power output to fuel input that a small engine just cant manage with most cars, which is why a weak engine almost always ends up worse on fuel. a corvette is almost idle on the highway, which is why they get strangely good mpg when they're not in the city

@powerguymark

January 2021 I had made up my mind to buy a RAV4 hybrid but had already researched the Venza. I test drove four different RAV4 hybrids and didn't really care for any of them. Before leaving the dealership I tried out a newly delivered Venza limited. I immediately noticed how much more comfortable the seats were. I then noticed that although it had the same JBL sound system as the RAV4's I test drove.. it sounded better in the Venza. Although it's not quiet when mashing the gas it was quieter than the RAV4 hybrid. It's really a disservice for Toyota to label their ECVT as a CVT since it has no belt to wear out like a standard CVT and is built solid as a rock. In sport mode it's actually nice to drive and still gets respectable gas mileage. As the video suggests, using the heated seats and steering wheel has a direct impact on fuel economy which is weird until you think it through. I'm also impressed with the all-wheel drive system. It is extremely quick in response to changing road conditions and since it's based on electric motors there's no drivetrain to maintain or wear out, just immediate torque to the appropriate wheels when needed. I tested the all-wheel drive system in a local 9-in snow event trying to romp on the gas and jerk the steering wheel around as hard as I possibly could trying to make it get squirrely and I could not make it perform poorly. I would not be fearful to take this mildly off-road if needed but obviously it's not an off-road vehicle and frankly neither are any of the RAV4s. I'm typically averaging about 38mpg during warmer months and 34mpg in winter. Under ideal conditions I've got as high as 52mpg on a late night 15 Mile sandwich run which is Toyota Prius level mileage in a car I consider an entry-level Lexus that costs 12,000 less than a Lexus. It's surprising to me more people have not caught on to this Venza platform. It's a solid performer. It has bulletproof Toyota hybrid reliability, resale value and is a pleasure to drive. Due to regenerative braking your brakes are going to last a very very long time as well. With rising gas prices this platform should be on everyone's short list for a test drive. I could not be more pleased with my purchase. Here is an excellent video explaining how well designedToyotas ECVT is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWeUiJyegreXoK8

That part about EVs and range anxiety is the reason why mass EV adoption will not happen until we solve charge speed and infrastructure. Until then, Toyota's hybrids were a 20+ year bet that is already paying off big, especially with gas prices where they are now, and will continue to be the dominant tech for cars in the near future.
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 2 жыл бұрын
I agree that hybrids are a good bet for many, and for commuter vehicles in moderate climates, plug-in hybrids make sense. However, we're already seeing EVs (from Hyundai and Kia so far) that can get a 200 mile charge in twenty minutes. That's a very useful mileage for a relatively short break, and for most people would require no stops shorter than they'd already take on a road trip (meals and bathroom breaks). The range dropoff needs to be explored more. The awd versions have heat pumps that shpuld help a lot. I wish heat pump prices would drop, as all EVs should at least have them as an option.
@elusivellama
@elusivellama 2 жыл бұрын
A 20 min charge time would be better than 1hr for sure. We just need that infrastructure everywhere that an EV can go (perhaps starting with malls and other popular destinations), and that won't be happening for a long while.

I bought a Toyota Venza 2021 LE model. I was upgrading from a 2010 Honda Civic, mind you. So I didn't go bruhaha on all the tech, wanted buttons instead of a touchscreen, preferred a smaller screen and was okay with a simple backup camera that I had fitted myself in my old Civic. Then I upgraded to Venza and it is a breeze. AWD, standard hybrid, smooth drive, consistently hitting >40mpg. The cabin is über comfortable, Android auto is perfect, the sound system is more than adequate. The adaptive cruise control makes my drive much less worrisome. I love long drives (easy 300 miles a day). So this car is more than perfect for me. So if you are upgrading from an older vehicle, I would strongly suggest you this car. Go for a lower model since you don't want to overspend but want all the basic features such as adaptive cruise control. Nikhil

Well done. I’ve owned a 21 Venza Limited for 10 months now. First review to discuss the decreased mpg and mileage driving in winter months. Like Jack, my Venza mileage decreased 20-25% (28-32 mpg) for winter driving with a range of 300 miles. The drivability of this vehicle with the ECVT is mundane at best. So many negatives outweighing the positives to mention with the Venza. in short, when the lease is up it’s gone.

don't forget how the published fuel tank capacity is nothing but lies, the published capacity is 14 gallons but you'll only fill up 11 gallons at the pump even though the dash say 20 miles to empty

Please share your negatives. I've had mine for 13 months 18,000 miles. I don't like the Toyota navigation system so I typically use Android auto. It took me a while to get used to the touch sensitive controls and not having a volume knob to quickly turn the volume down when I needed to. (I just hit the power button now) So far I've been pretty happy with mine.

Tge great majority of the US population lives in places with veey little (or no) extreme winter weather. Battery range may be a big issue in the upper Midwest and inland Northeast, but most people along the East Coast, almost everyone in the southern half of the country, and people in the Pacific Coast states will see very little drop.

@@powerguymark I had a 2021 XLE for 2 years and the gas mileage was great but hated the touch-sensitive controls. the biggest problem is the high-voltage cable to the all-wheel drive system. the majority of RV4 hybrids & plug- in and Venza corrode within the first 2 years because of the snow & salt. it is only covered by the 3-year basic warranty and not the 8-year hybrid system. the cost of replacement is 5k to 8k.but the replacement cable is the same as the old one. Toyota almost gave me the same price that I paid 2 years ago so I got a 2023 RV4 XLE premium gas model. the ride is similar to the Venza but I feel more connected with the road in the RV4

my biggest gripe with the Venza, is in Canada, you can only get a 360 camera on the top (limited) trim, which is a must-have for me. but the top trim ONLY comes with the fancy pano sunroof, and the sunroof prevents u having side rails for roof racks. and roof racks are another must-have for me. I wish there was a package to add 360 cam to the XLE.

After having seat time for a month in a K5, I understand the appeal a little bit more of a comfortable, steady relax-a-car. Its nice! I akinned the experience of modern cars as an everyman luxury experience. Ironically its for that same experience that I preferred my altima. Even when being slower, that car is fun to drive everyday, and chill enough to lean back on when need be. Maybe its cause I’m a freak of nature, but I feel the need more often to drive spiritedly than I do to chill

Compared to my previous gas powered car. 1. Heated steering wheel slow to warm. 2. Heater slow to warm. To all. I set my mode to sport mode full time. It’s fun to drive and a fast off a red light. Mileage penalty is well worth it. Since I live in a cold climate, I wouldn’t get a hybrid again.

I got extremely lucky and bought a 22 Sienna a few months ago for my business and I've already rolled past 10k miles. I love this thing so damn much! It's the most expensive car I've ever bought but was required due to the nature and mileage requirements of my company. The cold weather MPG was a huge shocker but 95% of the time I get over 40mpg and if I have to sit in bad traffic it'll go as high as 50mpg.

Maybe a block heater would help but I wouldn’t think it would make much difference in overall mpg on a long highway trip. It’s our third sienna and overall pretty good. So far I’d rather have the efficiency of the hybrid over the smooth power of the 6. The fit and finish is a little suspect on the ‘21.

I’ve had two hybrid Toyota’s. The range drop in winter is similar to his experience. I have a late model leaf now and (I knew going in) its range in cold winter weather is 50-60% of stated range. Winter eviscerates EV range.

From everything I've read and seen, it seems the venza is the replacement for the avalon even though Toyota is bringing some version of the Toyota Crown to the US. The venza and rav4 share a similar relationship as the avalon and camry. With the avalon being gone, I can see avalon buyers moving to the venza because it's more luxurious than the average Toyota, priced below comparable luxury cars, and has the toyota peace of mind reliability.

I was looking for a boring, reliable, ultra fuel-efficient, drive and forget it appliance experience and stumbled upon the Toyota Venza. I liked the interior, but I opted for the Rav4 hybrid as a daily. They both are about the same vehicle, but the Venza is a step up from the Rav4 with Toyota’s new design language, and it is still made in Japan, so it does have that going for it.
