I don't own any Taylor Swift records, but I'm happy to see her be as successful as she is. I actually met her way back in 2007 when she was first starting out. At that time she was 17 years old and had just released her first album. I worked for a company (and still do) that promoted and streamed music online for new up-and-coming artists. One day Taylor Swift came to our company and played a free concert for our employees on the lawn outside our cafeteria. After the concert I stood beside her for quite some time taking photos of her meeting and signing autographs for our employees. It was great seeing how she interacted with everyone during that time. The impression I got of her during the one hour or so I spent watching her interact with everyone was that she was a genuinely warm, friendly person. It's been amazing to me to watch her meteoric rise to fame since that time and to see what a huge superstar she would eventually become!

Seventh grade music appreciation class allowed us to bring our records once. That day I walked to school carrying a heavy stack of Beatles thinking I’d get to play them all. Can’t remember if my were chosen but always a blissful remembrance involving records.

Great video, Melinda. I love the way you present these albums; I can tell you really love them. I've been going through the albums I bought this year and there were a lot (I was guilty of some of the mistakes you made as you confessed in your most recent video). I bought a lot of used albums this year, albums I just got lucky to find, and a bunch of new stuff too. I may do a video similar to yours, like a year in review type thing. Beautiful Christmas decorations while enjoying your review of great releases. I just got into Jazz this year so Kind if Blue 45 UHQR, Bill Evans Box Set, John Coltrane mono and stereo Blue Train, Grateful Dead Lyceum Box Set 1972 Europe amongst a few others from that tour. MJ Thriller, Bob Marley, Steely Dan, Joni UHQR. Whew and of course Revolver box. Very Merry Christmas and may Santa leave many 12x12 packages under your beautiful tree.

Great vinyl records for 2022 have a very positive effect on you in this video, Melinda. I can really see the joy they've brought you; you're glowing as you talk about those records. What I really like about this video is how you covered a lot of different artists. You can't go wrong with the jazz albums you showed. That fire in your fireplace got me through some of the other records you showed. 😜 Of all the records you showed, that Chris Isaak album was the one that captured my attention the most; I'd love to have that one. 🤔 I was just thinking about the records I bought in 2022. I acquired some really great blues albums in 2022. There are four albums of my albums acquired in 2022 that I'd single out for exceptional quality or interest in 2022 so far: Jimi Hendrix AYE UHQR (best sounding AYE to date), Miles Davis Kind of Blue 45 rpm UHQR (the very best sounding KOB to date), Larkin Poe Blood Harmony (great new music), and probably my favorite The Doors Paris Blues RSD release on transparent blue vinyl (never thought I'd hear new Doors music, and it's the blues I really love mastered by BG). 😻 I just played Paris Blues today and love it! 💖 Since loved ones know that I really like vinyl records, who knows what Christmas will bring, more vinyl to be sure! 🎄🎁

I wish I had picked up that RSD The Doors release. My daughter was in for a visit and I never had a chance to buy it. I'm glad it's good and I still may run into it someday. In the meantime, I did get some fantastic records with jazz being the focus this past year. ♥️ I agree my UHQR'S are amazing. Analog Productions never disappoints. One of the bands I have had a resurgent interest in since I started collecting vinyl records again is The Alan Parsons Project. They are suited for vinyl in my view, and I recently bought the boxset even though I had most of their albums on vinyl! "Why pay less when you can pay more" is my motto! I have also got all but one of Dire Straits Mobile Fidelity versions and I love them too!

@@marktait2371 The quality of the pressings are okay but they are not Supervinyl or pressed at RTI. They do sound great but on a couple of the 11 there is a few pops and clicks, but not much. I am pleased with them.

Hey Melinda, wow what a year you had record buys wise. Always interesting watching your videos. I remember seeing most of those purchases on previous videos. For me, my record purchases were few but the highlight was probably the Revolver LP & CD boxed sets which sound really great. Another highlight was y huge Emerson, Lake & Palmer "Fanfare" (mostly) CD boxed set of their entire catalogue, extra live recordings but includes a fantastic exclusive 3LP set of Live In Milan & Rome as well 5.1 bluray mixes of their first four classic studio albums. There were some surprise used records that I acquired recently that are quite cool including LP's by the Q-Tips (an English blue-eyed soul group featuring Paul Young on lead vocals) as well as "Four Moments", the debut LP by Sebastian Hardie, a mid-70's Australian progressive rock group, which I got for a surprisingly low price 😊. I finally got my stereo set up and LP's mostly unpacked in my new home. Still lots more to do & unpack but I'm actually appreciating my stereo system more now. 😊 Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year Melinda. Take care sweetheart ❤️

Sorry to be late to the party, sometimes the week gets the better of me. Glad to hear you're part of the unashamed KISS army. The guys in Rush always said how good KISS was to them while Rush was making their way. My vinyl order for the year was " Envy of None ", a collaborative work involving Alex Lifeson, and it is very, very good, I recommend. Alex is the teddy bear in Rush, I say " is "not " was " due to the fact Rush never sleeps. There was a funny interview with Eddie Van Halen, he was asked, " how does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world? " Eddie said, " I don't know, ask Alex Lifeson ". Obviously, the mutual admiration between the two would have been huge! I caught an old Alex Lifeson interview from what would have been from Rush's Siganls tour, Alex joked, " we're just trying to be as loud as Van Halen ". I got to see Rush multiple times, I regret I didn't go to see Van Halen, truly. Enjoy the music 🎶 everybody!

This past week was pretty rough. Lol. I hope you have some free time to relax this weekend. Kiss was very good to their opening acts because they weren't always treated well and they wanted to be supportive. It's great to hear that a terrific band like Rush remembers the people who were kind to them when they were starting out. Thankfully, I did get to see VH with Dave in 2015 as it would be their final tour. I still miss Eddie. Thank you and take care.

The funny thing about Rush supporting KISS back in the day was that Gene couldn't understand why Geddy, Alex and Neil didn't want to go out after the shows and pick up girls. They would always go back to their hotel rooms, call their wives, order room service and go to bed!

Normally I wouldn’t even think about buying it, but that Rolling Stones live album seems like it’s right up my alley. I might splurge on that. I have an original pressing of Creatures of the Night but I’m still interested in the box set. As far as new releases probably my favorite was “Blood Harmony “ by Larkin Poe. This was a wonderful year end review MM. Excellent job. The Dylan story totally added to the enjoyment factor. Merry Christmas!

The Kiss, Creatures of The Night Re master and the box set was the highlight of 2022 for me. The triple album blue vinyl release with Betrayed (not the one on HITS) and Deadly Weapons was the highlight for me.

I t was a very jazzy year for you. I am still have stuff coming in so I can do my favorite albums quite yet. Lot of great new artists this year that caught my attention. I did have more clicks and pops this year. I just sent one back to the UK because two songs were scuffed up. Quality control has taken a hit as they try to shove stuff out quickly. Your house looks great and that must have taken hours to decorate

Melinda, coming to this video a little late. I want to say I cut back a little on my vinyl purchases last year. Definitely on my record store day purchases for sure only having picked up three releases (The Offspring’s Greatest Hits, Mariah Carey’s #1s, and Tales From The Script: Greatest Hits by The Script. I was doing pretty good picking up relatively inexpensive newer records like Wet Leg’s self-titled debut record and Wolf Alice’s Blue Weekend (both excellent current alt/rock releases). However, then I went on a little splurge to end the year. I had to pick up Florence + The Machine’s new record Dance Fever which was pricey. Not only that but I also double-dipped on the CD because indie store CDs had exclusive autographed inserts in the CDs for the first pressings. Not only that, I also added two more FATM catalog titles through Discogs to my vinyl collection (Ceremonials and High as Hope). Then came the Walmart Black Friday sale where I added Third Eye Blind’s debut record, Guns N Roses Greatest Hits, a Matchbox 20 greatest hits compilation, and the Stranger Things Soundtrack from season 4. I also managed to pick up the vinyl reissue of Prince’s Around The World In A Day. I skipped out on picking up those Prince The Hits records because I already also have 1999, Purple, and Sign of the Times in my vinyl collection. This year, I’ve been enjoying the pressing plants catching up on catalog releases like Madonna’s Ray of Light, The Smashing Pumpkins Gish, Soundgarden’s Superunknown, and Green Day’s American Idiot. Also, being able to grab Radiohead’s In Rainbows was quite nice. So far this year, I’ve been focusing on rounding out catalog titles from some of my favorite bands like Linkin Park and U2 from my Discogs want list. I’ve also definitely dived into purchasing CDs more. I’m looking forward to the vinyl reissue of The Cult’s Love within the next days.

Can't go wrong with Coltrane/Hartman! "They Say It's Wonderful" is my favorite track. And now that you mention it, maybe I should revisit my Mosaic set of the Complete Bitches Brew Sessions; I don't own the album itself, but I'm good with what I have. Watching this channel has made me curious about many albums I'd paid little or no attention to before. An example: if I ever ran across "Odyssey and Oracle" and it wasn't priced outrageously, I just might pick it up. Nice review, Melinda. Congratulations on your finds. I'm not a fan of ticks and pops either, especially with a room as quiet as mine.

Some real gems there! I agree about some recent pressings having inadequate QA. I think I complained here about some German pressings I recently got. My Steven Wilson Aqualung is warped - there's _no_ excuse for that. But, my new iSonic reduced the surface noise, pops and crackles on my new Kraftwerk pressings by easily 85-90%. Borderline miraculous. My Tears For Fears had some sort of stuff that appeared to be pressed into the surface, I had vacuum cleaned the heck out of it and assumed it was part of the vinyl. I'm now guessing it was fungus or mildew, the ultrasonic removed it by about 70%. I haven't listened to it yet as it had terrible surface noise, I'll probably give it one more run through first. I'm absolutely smitten - after talking with the rep he convinced me to do 10 LP's at once and it works great. The high-speed spin clean solves any issues of leaving cleaner on the surface or contaminating with dust by using a fan. Probably done 100+ albums so far. The big downside is with all the necessary stuff, it takes a workspace. Toaster versions like the DeGritter only need as much space as a vacuum cleaner. I'm loving it!

Finally ; have you drifted outside ”your box” into new territories ? Annette fell head first into sea shanties this fall and I have gone all-in on late 60’s-late 70’s funk. I remember driving home on a very rainy dark evening on a strange unfamiliar wooded stretch of road in the Santa Cruz mountains at about 1am, and was a bit on edge. I had the local college station KFJC on at the time (1982 and no cassettes) and on comes The Dreaming. It freaked me right the f* out! Just what I needed to hear was a crashing car. "Bang! goes the kanga on the bonnet of the van..." I lucked out in that the DJ actually mentioned the artist (usually they read a list of the past hour, or nothing at all) and ran out to Tower Records the next day to buy it. Needless to say, I had the back catalog as soon as I could as they were mostly imports at the time and quite rare. That's still my favorite of hers.

Very good breakdown and interesting month by month additions to your collection! I have not yet tried any of the famous jazz purchases people are making. I did get a bunch of jazz fusion music in that collection a friend gave me back in April. But so far, most of it just isn't exactly what I was expecting. There are so many different categories of jazz this and jazz that that I'm not sure what regular jazz falls into haha. And as for Journey, it really is sad and a shame what's going on within the band. It's been like a soap opera this year. Nothing will ever change the music I grew up with and love from them but I am starting to lose interest in the current tours with the band. I've been to every concert that has come through Dallas, and many in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Beaumont, and other areas of Texas, since 1998 when they reunited. But it's dwindled down to being a tribute band almost and all they play are the greatest hits songs anymore. Nearly 25 years of seeing them play the same songs has kind of worn thin. And since it doesn't look like Steve Perry will ever be joining the band again, I'm a little disheartened by the fact so many of the OG members are now gone or going. But at least I have my OG records that I can listen to in the privacy of my house and enjoy! Merry Christmas to you and your husband and family Melinda! Brian in Fort Worth 🎶

These are some of my favorites of the near not included on your list. Have a look and see if anything jumps out at you. Apologies, it's a long list (limited myself to 10)! Reissues: 1. One of the biggest for me in terms of demand may have been "Ben Howard - Burgh Island (10th anniversary reissue)". It was very limited when it came out, and OG copies sold from 400 - 700 USD. A grail ticked off my list for sure. 2. UK shoe gaze pioneers Ride reissued/remastered their first 2 records and a new collection of their first 4 EPs. For anyone into shoegaze or 90s British rock, this is a treasure trove of great stuff. Beautiful vinyl and gatefold sleeves as well. 3. (Warp Records) Various - Artificial Intelligence. 30th anniversary reissue of the seminal early 90s compilation of IDM and Ambient, long out of print and unavailable. 4. Alexi Murdoch - Time Of No Reply and Towards The Sun. 2000s folk records, reminiscent of Nick Drake. OG copies of the vinyl went for hundreds previously. Beautiful repressings. There were a few "first time on vinyl" releases of classic albums: 5. Jon Brion - Meaningless. Brion (who has produced stellar records by Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Rufus Wainwright, Late Registration by Kanye!, many others and created movie soundtracks like Magnolia, Eternal Sunshine, and others) self released this power pop masterpiece on CD in 2000. This year it was finally released on vinyl. 6. Pond - Rock Collection. Brilliant 90s rock album, criminally overlooked upon release. Band had a indie-go-go to buy the masters from the label and release it on vinyl. Great rock record. 7. Joy Zipper - American Whip. Mid 2000s cd only release by indy duo, finally put out on vinyl. Great mix of indie pop tracks, great songwriting and arrangements. New records: 8. Chris Forsyth - Evolution Here We Come. Vital, new psychedelic rock from long time the experimental guitarist. On black tie-dye vinyl in a beautiful gatefold. 9. Jack White - Fear Of The Dawn. Fun, driving rock record, nice pressing. 10. Black Thought & Danger Mouse - Cheat Codes. Stellar lyrics from The Roots frontman Black Though, backed by music producer and collaborator extraordinaire Danger Mouse. Banger.

What a great year 2022 was for music - I love your concept of a year wrap-up! Isn't Giles Martin's remix of REVOLVER a killer of a listen! I have to get Pink Floyd-ANIMALS - Great to see you holding up Kate Bush-The Whole Story - She is sadly underrated in the States and what a fantastic voice she has and writes her own material! Of course, it’s everyone’s choice if they still want to buy digital files pressed onto plastic or not, but at least now they know what they’re getting.
