The reason the Lane Assist/Travel Assist has issues is that you are used to resistive steering wheels but the new golfs have haptic steering wheels which means you have to really hold the steering wheel not barely touch/resist it with a finger.

Still watching the video BUT for anyone who wonders what tire pressure to set your car to. DO NOT just go with the tire pressure on the door placard (especially for a German car), instead check the owners manual because you will find a page that has the actual tire pressure you are supposed to set the car to for the conditions/setup you'll be driving in. The pressures listed on the placard are just maximum weight pressures. For example, my Audi S5 and now S3 all list about 42psi to inflate the tires to shown on the door. However in the manual it says that for normal occupancy (2-3 people plus fuel) to fill the tire to only 36psi front and 32psi rear. If I were running full occupancy and luggage then it says to inflate them to 42+. Your ride quality, fuel economy, and handling are heavily affected by this so make sure you pick the right thing foe the right reasons. 👍👍

Not bad. High RVP winter fuel is hurting in addition to the cold temps themselves and snow tires. I wouldn't be surprised to see 35 mpg on a highway cruise in the summer.

Good video (and useful) 👍👍 This will help me later this December when my wife and I take a vacation to Disney World. It's a 2,000 mile round-trip for us so there fuel economy matters. A handful of years ago we did the same thing when I had a 6spd mk7 GTi which returned incredible fuel economy ending up with 36mpg even with a total of 7 hours or so of stop and go traffic throughout the trip and averaging 75-95mph on the interstate flowing with traffic. I was going to take my S5 this year even though she has a Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid which does insanely high fuel economy, but the S5 is soooooooooooooo much better on long highway trips except for the fuel economy part. I recently decided to sell that S5 and bought an S3 which is a lot more fun and has better fuel economy which is a nice bonus. I'm assuming my fuel economy should be about the same as the R, so that will be pretty good while still being fun and good at high speed interstate travel. 👍👍

The Sport mode is very nice the steering heavy and the hard suspension is really not the best for every day. At 70mph my 2005 mercedes B-class with 2.0L diesel and a custom tune gets 47mpg. 17mpg more than you. Idk where all that fuel is going.. but I say it's probably running richer than it needs. When the ECU gets cracked, everyone who wants better fuel economy should tune for that. I think you can get pretty lean at low engine loads. The cooling system can offset the higher temps you get with leaner mixtures.

I think that’s quite a low reading of MPG considering the drive you did, which I’m quite shocked by considering it’s a 4 cylinder unit. I did a video long range MPG test with my 6.2 V8 C63 doing the same drive, and managed around 27/28mpg. I’m just staggered how considering the C63 has over triple the engine size, the Golf R is only marginally better off on long range journeys. Excellent video, love doing and watching MPG related stuff : )

this might be a problem of MPG readings, if you convert it into L/100km you get almost a 0.82L of difference between 31mpg (7.58L/100km) and 28mpg(8.4L/100km) which makes the difference more noticeable
@racer247

@@racer247 I didn’t know there was a difference between the countries. But regardless, 8 MPG difference between a 2.0 4 cylinder Turbo charged engine, compared to a naturally aspirated 6.2 V8, is still rather commendable on the 6.2’s behalf. It isn’t a massive difference like I was expecting it would be.

@NathanMannin yeah, here in the US, those old W204 C63's only achieved 19hwy MPG, straight trash. That's why all the manufacturers went to twin turbo V8's for better performance and fuel economy. You were also barely shaking the wheel, every wheel has a slight wiggle room before it actually does something. ive done a 180 mile round trip using the same system and never had an issue. User error

Two issues with this review, firstly your suggestion that the 7gti was better than the 7r is total garbage and shows how little research you did. The 7r was what made the golf so popular and was better than the gti in every way. Secondly, you're holding the wheel with the flimsiest grip ever whilst overtaking and complaining about the car beeping at you. Thats because the car senses that your grip is inadequate in dealing with any sudden change should you need it whilst overtaking, which can be tricky in itself. I'd do some more research next time...
@DailyMotor
@DailyMotor 2 жыл бұрын
What do you mean research? The 7gti was less expensive and provided the best value in affordable sporty daily drivers on the market, much like its predecessors. The 7r is faster and more exciting, but it lacked the GTI's value and was therefore less relevant. We've driven thousands of cars and this active lane keeping system is one of the most annoying. We perform this same 100-mile test with two cars per week. Is that enough research for you?
