All six primary serving members of Max Webster were present. It was a special evening. The house band led by Lou Pomanti performed Battle Scar, joined by Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar) and Charlie Edward.

Battle Scar got minimal airplay here in Maryland but I caught it with a blank MAXELL UDXL 90 Cassette ready to record. 40 years later I still have that tape .

As a frostbitten Canadian boy in the 70’s i was weened on Max Webster and Rush, it made me a better musician i still listen to “high class in borrowed shoes” and “Universal juveniles” two awesome albums from one of Canada‘s finest rock bands!

Absolutely deserved & overdue. One of the best rock bands to ever emerge from Canada in my opinion. Much love from Michigan USA.

Had a opportunity to see Max Webster back in the early to mid Nineties when the did a little reunion show at the Civic Auditorium in Oshawa. Having older brothers and listening to their music as I grew up, it was great to see them in person.

Probably the most creative band to ever come out of Canada. They were and are miles ahead of their time . They were part of the greatest music scene Toronto ever had. My biggest regret is not seeing them live.

I'm an American fan of Max since 1980 when Alex Lifeson mentioned them in an interview with Guitar Player Magazine. Kim apparently had a modified Fender Strat that Alex borrowed from him, and that's who got Alex into Strats... Universal Juveniles was the first album I heard by them, and It's one of my favorite albums of all time! Blue River Liquor Shine!

Thanks for recording & sharing this. Saw Max at Sutton High School during the Live Magnetic Air tour. Already had all their albums before that so I was totally pumped for the concert. At the end of the night as we were leavin' the school parking lot my buddy had Q107 on the radio and they were playing Paradise Skies. Was a helluva night.

Same story as the presenter. Saw Max Webster open for Rush; "High Class... " was their current album. Immediately bought both 2 albums and every album after that. Saw them live 2 times again after that. I went to Art College in the early 80s and had 2 homemade Max Webster t-shirts I wore a lot. People started calling me "Max". 😂 One of Canada's greatest bands!!!

Kudos to Max for getting some well deserved recognition! I am a huge McCracken fan but Kersey should have been introduced as well, he was a founding member.
@MaxWebsterArchive Жыл бұрын
Kersey technically isn't a founding member - he joined a few months into the band's history in 1973. But he did play with the band for 3 years, and he was present on stage - they just didn't introduce him for some reason. It was unsettling, but typical of such industry events that aren't as well organized as they should be.

That was beautiful the only complaint is I'd rather had Max up there performing, but still Big Sugar did a fine job with Battlescar!❤🎸😎👍EDIT there is a Rush connection to this? As Gordie got his first double neck from Alex Lifeson, and we all know that Max toured with Rush, and even their last show as a band was with Rush!

Charlie Edward! Mother of God! Who is this kid?!

I thought the exact same thing! His social media presence is minimal, but he seems to be able to shred on guitar as well as he does vocally. Looks like he's in his early 20s. Hope he has a bright future ahead of him.

I personally felt Max Webster were a way better band then Rush. The album's were so well produced by Terry Brown coincidently the same producer for Rush. Great shows and great memories. Finally getting the credit they so rightly deserved. Check, Check them out. 🤗🤘🤘👍👍✌✌
@siriusfun Жыл бұрын
Very different, for sure, and virtuosity on display in both. I was also just discussing this with some musician buddies who are huge Rush fans (as am I), and we all agreed that there was a certain level of sophistication about Max Webster that wasn't there with Rush. Production aside, the layered instrumentation, use of symphonies, stacked vocal harmonies, KIm's light years ahead guitar stylings, the time signature fluctuations in a radio-friendly format, strong melodies - all of it was on a totally different level. To be fair, there were more players on stage than Rush, but even so.
@glennleybourne14510 ай бұрын
What it basically was that if you were at a party chances are Max would be on the turntable before Rush because it was more good time music .. I certainly remember them being revered as much as Rush back during their heyday

WHAT AN EMBARRASSMENT 🤬 (preface….I’m a massive MW and KM fan…it’s not that) The band deserved so much better than this disjointed and underwhelming induction effort. I’ve seen better participation ceremonies at a pee wee tournament ffs. #sorrynotsorry

Couldn't agree more. A seriously underrated band who deserved much more recognition than they got that night, and throughout their career. Oh well, those who know, know. Your loss, everyone else.

I think they really made a huge mistake leaving Pye Dubious out of this. And why didn’t Max actually play???
@MaxWebsterArchive Жыл бұрын
@@andrewwolczyk5777Pye was asked and didn't come. And about half of the artists played and half didn't - the house band filled in all the blanks as necessary. In Max's case, Terry is well into his 80s and not playing anymore (although he's still doing his art). And with no Terry you've got no Max, so I'd reckon Kim opted out so that it didn't become the Kim show. It's an admirable decision.

I wanted to watch this because of how much I love the band and Kim Mitchell, but when Alan Cross came out and chose to bring politics into it, I turned it off. I will never know why people feel the need to make their political opinions public. It was especially offensive that this was a Canadian award but somehow this self-important nobody made it about the governor of Florida?? Weird. Pointless. And it detracted from what was supposed to be a night to honor a great Canadian band. I’ve never heard of Alan Cross and I hope I never hear him again. Classless and selfish.
