This is yet another rebranding, nothing more. It looks so much like the new TLX from the side that people will struggle to tell the two models apart at a distance. I guess the ILX wasn't selling enough units that Honda decided to resurrect an old name to 'resuscitate' its entry-level sedan. @@zosomoso gas almost never gets cheap, maybe cheaper after the recession, but before and since has always been on the incline. They make you buy this crap over a nice sedan because more are being made than people realisticly want to buy, and more than likely end up back at the dealership anyway. I think everyone is jumping the gun since the prototype is basically the base version and not the Type R. Not to mention the Integra was always available with 4 doors based on the civic platform. Could the design use some tweaking? Absolutely. Is its suddenly not a true to form Integra? No. Its following the formula to a T and probably would have been a 3 door coupe if "enthusiasts" had actually bought the previous Civic Coupes and given them a reason to bother offering one. We cant get mad at the final product when most of the people complaining weren't going to buy it regardless of if it was perfect or not. The Integra started out as a practical and economic premium sedan with good handling. Everything else after that was an after thought or video game nostalgia. We need to remember that we as enthusiasts are maybe 2-3% of the market and cars like the Integra were meant for the masses. Not just the enthusiasts. There are a few new coupes on the market but those are still all just low volume models that don’t move very many units. Honda was literally the last hold out for small FWD coupes but they gave up because no one was buying them. The Integra was always just Acura’s entry level model and plenty of them were sold in 4 or 5 door body-styles. Maybe all of this backlash will push them to make a 2 door version of this car but this was always going to be a high volume volume model for Acura like it was in the past. The Integra was never a dedicated sports car. It was a normal, relatively inexpensive car that gained its reputation because it handled well and was exciting to drive in sportier trims. A dedicated sports car developed with Porsche or Mercedes would be nice but that would be even farther from the original Integra concept than the actual car that everyone is complaining about.

There is a simpler explanation - Honda axed the coupe and didn't bother designing a new one because it wasn't selling well (6% of sales in fact). Then they handed Acura the four-door chassis of the new Civic and said "use this to replace the ILX," at which point some genius at Acura decided to call the new ILX the Integra to pretend they still have a cool car in the stable after the NSX was discontinued.

Integra was always a more upmarket Civic, based on Civic platforms. The original mostly sold with relatively slow base engines from 120-140 horsepower and cloth seats. Also was available in 4 and 5 door depending on year. The Type R everyone was expecting now came later. This new car ticks enough boxes to be an Integra in the same vain as the original whether you like it or not. It shares no body panels with the Civic either, has it's own unique look [whether good or bad is subjective] and I assume interior will be different as well. And 2 door coupes don't sell these days to be viable. Besides, I'm certain Acura has a special performance Type S model in the future. From where I am from in South East Asia, I see more 2nd/3rd gen 4-door Integras (badge as a Honda) than 2-door, and when it is a 2-door, its in Type-R flavour. Even the much beloved DC2 Honda Integra Type-R came in DB8 4-door form, which was rarer and, for me, more appealing. Its a damn if you dont, damn if you will, moment for Honda/Acura; a new 2-door Integra coupe will probably be more appealing, and will probably attract many positive comments before people not buy it (see previous gen Accord / Civic Coupe). Likewise making a dedicated platform for the Integra that differs from the Civic will inccur cost that will never be recovered. Maybe is an American thing that people thinks that the Integra nameplate is associated to a coupe. The only thing I wished Acura would do is to lower the roof or increased the shoulder line, and add frameless windows to the doors, much like Audi's Sportback / BMW's Grand Coupe style of 'coupe'

I was waiting for someone to say this. The reason why Honda stopped making coupes is because NOBODY wants them anymore. This is exactly what the Integra should be.

@@rwalex1212 the NSX was definitely a flop, I 100% agree with you on that. But it can also be said that it was a massively unnecessary flop. It was over complicated, heavy, and supercar expensive. It was closer to being a LFA than a NSX. As for another manufacturer, I didn't see the BMW partnership coming so is someone like Audi impossible? Idea: they can provide the chassis and engine for the A3 Cabriolet/S3 for Type Rs. Honda could then do what Toyota did and tune the exhaust, transmission, engine mapping to more JDM specs. D I can admit it's definitely a pipe dream, but so was a BMW Supra that's awesome to drive and can push 500hp with a downpipe and tune 🤷🏿♂️

It’s funny how the first two generations of the Integra seemed to be forgotten along with the RS and LS trim levels and the 4 speed auto. This Integra nostalgia is bordering on delusion. The Integra was a nice mainstream entry level Acura that offered a wonderful GSR and a special limited run of Type Rs. So maybe let’s take a breath here. Also, it’s 20 yrs later, all cars are bigger and heavier. The big news being overlooked is this is a new Acura with an actual name! Btw, I had a 1995 4 dr GSR and I definitely miss that car…glad I got to enjoy those high revving days since they’re never coming back.
@jarmonmarmon76983 жыл бұрын
Those generations were forgotten for a reason. We both know the 3rd gen is what gave the integra a legacy to remember. Without that gen the integra is just the quint 2.0. If this new integra wasn't gonna be cut from that cloth they should've just called it the ilx sportback. No need for honda to dig the integra name out of the grave just to get their cookie cutter acuras off. That's just them trying to swing from both sides of the plate at the same time. Is anybody who really cares about the integra name going to be swayed into buying the same ol by that gaudy decal? On the same token, would someone looking for the same ol appreciate a goofy decal on an otherwise sensible and pedestrian family sedan?

@@KeithSchwerin Sounds good. Too bad there's nothing concrete to confirm what you said. Even if what you said is 100% true, all the more reason for honda to keep that name then. They know what they're trying to pull by calling it the integra. It takes more than an ugly decal to make an integra, they set the bar too high for themselves with the 3rd generation to phone it in. I wouldn't have even cared if this was an integra trim package for the ilx (with an engine tune), that would be more honest than this. This "integra" insults the intelligence of people who know enough about the og to care about the integra name, negating any percieved benefit there would be to reviving it. Shit is just a gimmick trying breathe life into a product devoid of innovation and inspiration.

@@el_covfefe The platform of a car (also called the 'skate-board'.. frame of chassis + suspensions +motor +gearbox), can be adapted to fit any body style very easy.. The new Integra will have her rivals from the Civic Type-R,the Kia Stinger/Genesis G70,anything from Mini and even the Dodge Charger Scat Pack,and with so many enthusiasts clamoring for hot hatches and performance sedans,the new Integra will find her niche among the new generation.
