This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Audi Q4 e-tron luxury, electric compact SUV. Thank you to Audi Downtown Vancouver for lending us the Q4 50 e-tron to review. The Audi Q4 50-etron has 295 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque, it gets 388 km/236 miles of range, has an 82 kWh battery and quattro AWD. In the US, there is also a RWD model, the Audi Q4 40-etron with the same size battery but less power, 201 horsepower and more range, 265 miles.The Audi Q4 comes standard with LED headlights, available Matrix design headlights, LED taillights, heat insulating side and rear windows, high gloss black and chrome exterior accents, aluminum roof rails and 19” wheels, available 20”. The aerodynamic design of the Q4 features a low drag coefficient of 0.28 minimizing resistance. The Audio Q4 provides ample interior space and storage including, dedicated bottle holders on all four doors. There is a mix of hard plastic, piano black and soft materials including, leather seating. The integrated 10.1” touchscreen and 10.25” digital driver display gives it an upscale feel. It also has an available Sonos premium sound system with strategically placed speakers throughout the vehicle. The Audi Q4 e-tron is the first Audi to feature an available augmented reality head up display which provides real-time vehicle information directly in your line of sight. In Canada, the Audi Q4 50 e-tron starts at $59,950 CAD, you can add a variety of packages and a la carte items to get those extra features. In the US, the Audi Q4 40 e-tron RWD starts at $48,800 USD, Premium Plus $55,400 USD. Q4 50 e-tron $53,800 USD, Premium Plus $60,400 USD, Prestige $61,900 USD. The Audi Q4 e-tron comes with a 9.6 kW onboard charger. With a 240-volt outlet, it can fully charge in 9 hours and with a DC Fast charger, it can go from 5 to 80% in about 36 minutes. The Audi Q4 50-etron qualifies for the Federal tax credit of $5,000 in Canada as it is priced under $60,000 CAD and incentives are available in participating provinces. In the US, the 50 e-tron qualifies for a tax credit up to $7500.

I think it has just the right amount of boldness and conservative design cues. The interior could use some contrast colors. I think this will have broad appeal. Very well thought out.

We live in in the pacific NW and are a two car family. For about the cost of a Tesla Y we bought these two cars: Nissan Leaf SV plus as our town car and a Subaru Legacy for road trips. Leaf has buttons and a birds-eye view camera for tight city parking spots, Subaru for hitting the slopes.

For comparing the costs of the ID4 and the Audi Q4 in the U.S., under the new law the ID4 which will be assembled in North America will qualify for the full $7500 tax credit, but the Audi, which is not, will not qualify. That widens the price gap considerably.

Good point, the difference is only 3,500 since batteries for id4 are still not sourced/manufactured in North America..hopefully will be in future though

I road tested this a few days ago during Audi Canada's road show in Calgary. WOW, did I love the smooth ride and acceleration. And I am one of those doubters who say I will probably never buy an EV. I was impressed by how much this felt like a traditional SUV/car. I just wish they could have used the type of materials that they used in the Q2 (not available in Canada). That crossover used a lot of hard plastic but at least it was uniquely patterned solid plastic instead of the glossy stuff that will scratch up and get dirty easily.

I have the q4 e-tron 45 for six weeks now and I love the car. From my point of view, Audi has managed fantastically to build up the more than sufficient acceleration of the car very smoothly. The situation is similar when braking. All that plastic should be embarrassing for Audi, but you don't have to touch it. Don't buy the car without the head up display. It's phantastic.

According to EV guru Sandy Munroe a Skoda Enyaq is every bit as good as the Etron for less money. Same car different badge! I did 600km in my Enyaq last Thursday towing a box trailer in sublime comfort and ease.

I think this trend of trying to re-invent things that have absolutely worked for decades is the silliest thing happening in the auto industry and I'll go as far as saying it's downright dangerous. Plus, gaining what I'm assuming is 1 maybe 2 miles of extra range while adding complexity to the user experience is not worth it.

I drove both of them but finally got the Audi. The Q4 has lots of plastic on its doors, but the ID4 is pure plastic all over. Looks cheap and I don't understand this. The prices of these cars are just crazy and I would have expected a bit more. But in the end it's not that important. When you drive it, you just look at the head up display. Best 'part' of the car by the way.

Audi girl here coming from gas and I just got the Q4 Sportback e-tron 50 premium plus. Everything you said about this car is true! I thought I was going to hate the steering wheel, but it is very ergonomic and I was wrong about it. I am 5'2"😄 it is very comfortable for a petite driver

I’ve had a RWD Q4 E-Tron 40 for a year and 13k miles (20k km). It’s been fantastic. Range has gone from 230 miles in Scottish winter (around 0°C, video on my channel) to 290+ miles (driven, not estimated). Interior space is great. I’m 6’5” and my smallest son is 5’10” and we all have plenty space. HVAC buttons are great, and the virtual cockpit means you don’t need a massive screen in the centre. There’s definitely too much piano black though- it gathers fingerprints like you wouldn’t believe 😮

@@vamsiii 40 isn’t fast but it’s quick enough for a family car. We had a BMW 520d before and 0-60mph is virtually identical and it feels quicker. It’s not gonna blow your socks off, but it’s not that kind of car 🚗

I ordered this car (arriving in next year) and with packages before tax it came to just over $72k, and the Audi dealership said I don’t qualify for the rebate because it’s over $70k after packages. Saw the same info on the gov site, now I don’t know who to believe 😂

I know it is super confusing but you do qualify for the Federal EV rebate even if it's $72,000 CAD. Audi only has one trim on the Q4 and they did it for a reason so it qualifies. I copied and pasted the following information right of the official website for you: Vehicles are still eligible for the incentive even if delivery, freight and other fees (like vehicle colour, add-on accessories (e.g., a roof rack), options, and packages) push the actual purchase price over these set limits. As long as a vehicle (the year, make, model, and trim) appears on the list of eligible vehicles, an incentive can be provided. A “trim” is a preset package of equipment and finishes offered for a particular vehicle model (for example: base, sport, touring, etc.). A vehicle model can have multiple trim levels. Different trim levels will usually have different prices and those may not qualify but the Q4 e-tron 50 qualifies, you can add as many packages and a la carte items as you like.

I have a 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron Prestige model in the US. I really love the car. On a full charge with good driving habits the range can go up to 261 miles. However for the price tag they could have put more battery cells to accommodate a rage of 320+ miles (around 350 would have been ideal). I do agree with Andrea, it has too much of plastic within the car, especially in the cockpit. The leg room in the back seats and the trunk space could have been improved. Overall the driving feels smooth and the matrix LED headlights are just awesome.

I really like this EV, it is great value. I’ve ordered a full load AWD id.4 and just find by the time I add all of the features from the id.4 to the e-tron it becomes too expensive. That being said I do really love the the Audi looks like a gas model and not some thing out of a sci fi movie.

I’ve had one of these for about a year. Good car, but I wouldn’t get it again because a few deal breakers that weren’t apparent in a short test drive. First, this is the hardest car to reverse in my 40 years of driving. The visibility out the back window is lousy, so there is no looking over the shoulder. But what about the back up cam? That’s not very good either. And there is no birds-eye view like some Audis. Second, the blocky hood causes a weird optical illusion that makes the driver think that objects are closer than they actually are. I find that I am constantly turning wide around corners and parking far back in parking spaces. Third, the range is quite short. In best conditions during the summer, you are pushing it if you drive more than 3 hours without charging. And winter is much shorter.

Yup. This is the Sline and here in Germany thats an 8750 Euro option add. Not sure how Canada is setting the specs but be very careful. Currently hv 2020 X3 2.0d and the interior on the Q4 looks alot cheaper, not least no idrive controller so you have to faff around looking away at the screen. With idrive its alot safer. Still not convinced...Oh and the interior colour is grim ie if you want cream/ beige eg if you have the Navarro Blue body colour, its like. 2350 Euro add! Horrendous

Great review guys. My only comment is we hear about competing EV's, but other than Tesla, I consider them like concept cars as you cant one for up to 2yrs, thats not competition in my mind. A friend wanted to but a deposit down on an Ioniq 5 a fanatic EV, but they won't even take your deposit. The caddy looks nice but when can you get one. I feel the whole supply part is never talked about enough...

DO NOT buy this car. Faulty brakes, in all of them. Read online reviews. My q4 went into shop along with others for real spongy brakes. They say that's the way they're designed. Brake pedal goes right to floor if you have to come to a sudden stop. Im not even talking about super hard braking. Just normal sudden stop. I didn't know about this and almost rear ended people 4 times in first month and half of owning this car. Took into dealership 2 times and threaten them with lawsuit, audi canada says thats just how theyre designed. Do not buy it. You'll regret it. My wife hates it. Wish we had NHSTA like US in canada to file a complaint. But we don't.

Problem with the conversation of the price difference is its a 3+ year wait for a Q4, versus getting a Model Y which I can actually get within a few months.

That is an issue, from what I hear from viewers/IG followers, you can get a Model Y in 3 months and the Q4 I am hearing 8 months to 18 months depending on the dealership and inventory coming in.

Nice car, would consider over the Q5. Here's the problem, I live in Ottawa and take frequent trips to Montreal. There are not enough charging stations as of now. Until there are more I will have to look at a hybrid.

It takes planning but certainly doable. It almost have enough range to do a return trip which means you only need to do short top-up charge and if you plan your comfort breaks where chargers are available. You won't even have to waste any time.

Another well done, interesting and informative review, with a joke included! Wow. But I have always wanted to ask you why the car arrangements vary so much between Canada and the US. Are our tastes that much different? Do Canadians like different orientations? If so, what do they want different than Americans? I understand there might be some different weather related things, but the cars seem to be equipped very differently. Why? Thank you as always!

Our weaker dollar means the packages have to be tweaked to make them more affordable plus cold weather features are a must in Canada.
