2023 BMW X1 U11: The New Standard

This is a Review of the Brand new BMW X1 U11 X Line 18d
In South Africa you will only get 3 different drivetrains:
18i sDrive:
115kw and 230Nm
1.5l 3 cylinder engine
18d sDrive:
110 kw and 360 Nm
2.0l 4 cylinder diesel engine
Both of these ICE vehicles will be FWD
And then the iX1 Xdrive30 - Full electric
230kw and 494 Nm
The All Electric will be Xdrive ( All Wheel Drive)
You only get 2 options or Packages on the X1in RSA:
X Line which we have here
M Sport Package (coming to the channel soon)

Curious about the 'L' gear at 11:20. So it puts the car down one gear for engine braking. Could you use it around town i.e., for engine braking coming up to traffic lights, or in stop start traffic?

Funny enough I haven't really had the opportunity to experience the L gear, but what I can tell you is that it is indeed a lower gear and increases deceleration so yes you can use it i traffic to assist with braking s you use the pedal less when braking.

Why does the X1 I test drove in Australia not have the "boot kick" feature for opening/closing? They said it didn't have it because of semi-conductor shortage but you guys have got it in South Africa. Big WTF.

Hi, Thank you soo much for the support all the way from Australia. HHmm that is a good question? I have also struggled with the X1, but I think if you get the placement correct it works, but I am not sure why it would not have it, guess the restrictions do not count for SA.

Why do the electric seating controls reside on the driver seat and not on the door as shown on the European and US models

Hi Colin, thank you very much for your comment. On As far as I have it the electric seat controls on the U11 X1 is on the side of the seat - only your pre adjusted settings where you see the number 1 and 2 will be on the drivers door. These are called the memory seat for driver only.

Hi Muhammad, Unfortunately nothing confirmed as yet, but production starts in Jan 2023. not sure on pricing yet either. probably a Mil or a little less than a mil not sure- Will Confirm

Yeah so in SA we currently get the 18i and 18d. 18i is a 1.5l 3 cylinder 115kw and 230nm and the 18d is a 2.0l 4 cylinder 110kw but 360nm. Diesel is my preference

@@goodlifebdg Yeah they look exactly the same. No difference except engine. and yes just feels better, but the 18i is a dream on its own. I just love diesel

It feels like a proper BMW in the interior but with the lack of the famous and practical iDrive controller. Not every driver wants to touch on the screen during the ride or speak with the car. BMW obviously has removed the controller only for cost reasons. In the 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 or the new 7 series the iDrive controller is still present. It's a pity.
