4 trips from Iowa in Bolt EV Round trip: 700 miles to St. Louis 830 miles to Wisconsin 1000 miles to Michigan 1200 miles to Ohio Traveled thru Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. The DCFC is slower than other EVs but workable if you're not in a panic hurry. We love our Bolt. 💚

I owned a 2017 Bolt for three years--bought it used. Drove it for 3 years and 4 months, then I rolled into the Bolt EUV in Feb 2023. I have put almost 25,000 miles on the car since that time...I have ZERO complaints. I don't even mind the slower charging at DCFC stations because I am only there for about 30 minutes or less...enough time to use the bathroom, stretch, and get a snack. There was NOBODY more critical of EVs than me until I drove one in 2019. One week later, I owned one. I have not and WILL not look back and I have zero regrets for owning a Bolt! I like the Bolt so much, I even named my KZbin channel @MyBoltEUV! 😁

A RN that my wife works with commutes in his Bolt. He loves it. At the hospital there’s EV charging stations. It’s free for all employees. Those employees swipe their ID cards and then start charging. If you don’t work at the hospital, you cannot use the free charging station. So the RN recharges his Bolt on the days he works.

I think it's safe to say that there are no perfect cars as individuals requirements are infinitely varied ---- but the Bolt EUV Premiere is as close to perfection that there is. Not mentioned is the extraordinarily precision fit and finished package the Bolt is at any price. Those who pick nits about slow charging are poor time managers to be avoided. I'm continually pleased with my EUV Premiere. Little things included like rain sensing windshield wipers, auto dimming head lights and adaptive cruise control are features not found on many so-called luxury brands. If GM does indeed discontinue the Bolt, it's because they realized that they created a car model that's almost impossible to make obsolete eliminating any need or desire for current owners (like me) to "trade-up" or trae in..

We have a 2022 Bolt and we love it. It's a fun car to drive and super cheap to drive. How cheap? For $1 of electricity we can go 45 miles. How far will $1 of had take you. The range is closer to what the epa says, at least when it's not winter. 230ish highway, and city we bet the epa getting closer to 300 miles. Winter the range and efficiency takes a big hit. Highway range is closer to 170. We put over 13000 miles on it including a couple 600 mile road trips.

We've owned our Bolt EUV 2022 for a year and put 11,000 miles on it. Because of super off-peak charging, $1 of electricity represents about 200 miles of range. I think our yearly cost of electricity for this car is in the ballpark of $75-$100. Been on 3 long distance trips so far. I don't mind the slower charging. We need to take breaks when travelling anyway. Lots of fun to drive. I really hate it when I have to use it to get gas for the lawn mower. Otherwise, I'd be done with gas stations. It has really changed the way we view travel. In our old car that cost $0.18/mile, we would weigh the cost of driving to shop in a bigger city with the cost to get there and back. Now, travel is nearly free, so we only consider the time the trip would take. And almost half our car payment is offset by fuel savings. Once the loan is paid off, it'll be almost free to drive. It was an easy decision, but hard to find one for sale.

I’m super happy for you guys, that sounds like an awesome answer to your needs! 🙂 I briefly drove another Bolt EUV yesterday for a video I’m putting together about a Level 2 charger I received. @@boomboom186282I read that push lawnmowers, pollute more than ice vehicles. I have 2/3 of an acre of lawn. Four years ago, I bought an electric push lawnmower. It cost $.02 per battery pack to charge. I bought extra batteries and chargers. I get some exercise and save money. Now I have many accessories, like leaf blower and chain saw. I am in no hurry. Note, I do own a Cub Cadet 42" rider with 94 hours. It is 7 years old.

Glad to hear that Chevy has reconsidered and is now decided to continue the Bolt but with the Altium battery/motor technology - it made no sense to discontinue a perfectly good platform and a growing loyal client base. Good news for GM as cooler heads prevailed.

I have had my 2023 Premiere Red Line Bolt EUV since April of 2023. The date of this entry is September, 2023. I love this car. It's responsive, reliable, and nimble. I did a LOT of research and test drove every EUV under 90K before I purchased. This little car is LOADED with options and features at an INCREDIBLY affordable price point. True, it is not a flashy prestige car, but you can be assured that most BOLT EUV drivers are very informed and conscientious consumers. This is HANDS DOWN the best deal for a feature packed electric economy car. If you are on the fence about buying one.....don't wait too much longer.....get one! You will not regret it. I do understand there were some problems with earlier year models with battery fires and other issues. GM has corrected those problems and it's relatively clear sailing ahead. I have a friend who has had his for almost 3 years with ZERO issues so far. The only maintenance is the tires so far in three years for him! I drive mine daily to work and back and I've never had any issues. I have a 240 Volt charger which GM paid to install in my garage and I will get the rebate this tax season. I love the way the car handles! I will post an update after I've had the car for a full year and put about 10K on it. For now, I am highly satisfied. One thing is for sure...gasoline powered, internal combustion engine powered cars will VERY SOON be a thing of the past. The future is now. I like being an early adopter.

If by rebate you're referring to the up $7,500 EV tax credit... it's not a rebate or refund. You get up to $7,500 to cover your taxes if you owe any. If you only owe $2,000 in taxes, you don't pay anything, but that remaining $5,500 goes POOF !! If you get a refund that tax credit was worthless, you don't get anything at all, nor can it be "saved" for future taxes. At least I hope, for your sake, that I'm wrong. This is why I'm waiting for 2024 when they change it to a point of sale where the dealer can apply it as a down payment, or cut you a check.

GM has already backtracked on ending the Bolt. There will be a Bolt made with the Ultium battery, but there is no other information available right now like which body style, or how large the battery will be. I own a ‘23 EUV Premiere without a sunroof. It is the best EV with the fastest ROI, but it is not great to take on road trips longer than 200 miles.

Every EV company should have a 24-28k base model so that regular people can afford to get one. Some people say that is to much but lets be realistic. The Chevy Bolt and EUV are the best EV cars on the market currently with their feature list and price point.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208

You’re absolutely right. I hope this becomes reality, at least once companies find ways to build the EVs and still make their own profit. Some companies like Rivian I hear are still losing money on each unit. 🤷‍♂️🙂

We have a 2023 Bolt EV (not EUV) we got in February. It is a great car. We have averaged 4.8 miles per KWH overall. That includes a few trips, cold weather and 105-110 degree heat. The HVAC and cooling systems handle 105 degree heat better than 15 degrees cold. Around town, we get over 5 miles per KWH, even on those 105-110 degree afternoons. We have gotten over 6 miles per KWH. It will humiliate a V8 ICE due to the torque when provoked. That can be fun, but mostly just useful. We have yet to get as low of mileage as the EPA projected average of 259 miles per full charge. We usually charge to 95% when the battery is at around 30-40%. That is typically at 200-240 miles on that charge. We have gone 280 miles on a charge while leaving over 25% left on the battery from a 95% charge in local mixed driving of highway and neighborhood roads. Driving locally or in heavy traffic, the range can be incredible, 350-400 miles on the projected range, and that matches our real range. I don't use the Chevy supplied 120/240 charger. My home charger is a Level 2 that works on a 30 amp circuit. This charger is adjustable from 10 to 24 amps. 24 amps will charge the car from 10-100% overnight, so we usually charge at 10 or 16 amps. Level 2 at moderate charge rates is actually easier on the battery and cooling system. Higher charge rates on Level 2 can even cause the cooling system to run excessively, which is inefficient as it drives up charging cost and actually increases the charge time. That is why I use a Level 2 charger that only charges to 24 amps. The 2023 Bolt can charge on DC fast charge at 55 KWH rate, but this is the one area of the car I have significant complaints about. I have charged it only three times at a Level 2 charger. The first time went fine, but the charger was probably only capable of 40 KWH rate, it was in the high 30's, and the car handled that fine. The 2nd and 3rd time were on the last legs of a trip of over 600 miles. We covered over 300 miles from a full 100% charge before we stopped for a charge at about 20%. (Remember EPA is 259 miles average and less for highway). We had also been using AC earlier in the day. But when we stopped to charge, it was 60 degrees out and night. Within a few minutes, the most terrible racket that sounded like a V6 engine racing at 5000 RPM emanated from under the hood. The charger had been charging at 54-56 KWH rate, but at the same time as the racket started, the charge into the car indicated about 35-38 KWH charge. The rest was going to keeping the damn thing cool. I immediately pulled the plug. I let the car rest for about 30 minutes to cool down. We had reached 68% charge at this point. That wasn't enough to get us home. 80% would have if all had been normal. It wasn't. When we got back on the road, the miles per kWH gauge tumbled from about 4.8 to under 3.0 within minutes. Now I was panicking because even with 2 more such stops, we might not make it home. This was the first and only time I have ever worried about running out of "gas" in the EV. At the rate the car was using energy, I worried about making it to the next charger in-route. Fortunately, the car recovered somewhat and we were back up to a still dismal 3.8kwh per mile rate by the time we got to the next stop. Unfortunately, the racket started once again, but this time before we even reached 60%. I pulled the plug even quicker this time as I didn't bother with diagnostics or looking under the hood before stopping the charge. I let the car cool again. This time, the car went back to normal efficiency so we had no problem making it home. After getting home, I charged it slower on the Level 2 at only 10 amps. We didn't need to go anywhere early the next day. I took it to the dealer to have it checked out. They couldn't find anything wrong and said the noise was normal. I asked them if I could change the DC fast charge rate from the 55KWH rate to something lower, like 40 KWH, as the higher rate was very inefficient, using too much energy to keep the battery cool. Sadly and unfortunately, there is no way to do that. As to the efficiency, two charge fees totaling almost $20 means that this is not practical or cheap when DC fast charging. I am disappointed in the DC fast charging performance of our 2023 Bolt. Both me and my brother have met other people with Bolts. They have not reported this problem. So I don't know that it is endemic, or just an issue with my car, or that I am just alert enough to notice what is going on. I will note that I did not buy the car for taking trips. I did think that when I noticed how brilliantly great the range really was and is on this car, I felt that maybe we could use it on a trip sometimes. The trip we took was the test. I found we could probably drive from Dallas to Houston, but the reality is that that would only really work for us if we had access to a Level 2 charger for an overnight charge, Otherwise, between the cost of charging with the overpriced commercial chargers that charge about four times the prevailing electricity rates and the probable wear and tear on the car, we are better off driving something else on trips over 300 miles. I have met other people that have the same gripe about commercial charging cost. If you are only using commercial chargers on an occasional trip, it will still be so much cheaper running an electric car like the Bolt as to make it worth having one. Even if you don't have another car, you can rent one for a trip. Still, the fact we can safely travel 280-300 miles without range concerns on a charge is really great. Bottom line is that our cost in electricity at our contract rate means that it has cost us just $147 to travel almost 7000 miles in this car. In a similar ICE, it would have cost over $600 in gas, plus an oil change. And don't forget other maintenance that you don't have on a an EV. Since ours will cost under $23,500 out the door with the Federal Rebate and any similar ICE car costs about as much, I consider it a deal. The base Equinox EV should be one heck of a deal at $30k, being only about $3k more after TTL. GM is likely to have the charging systems fully up to date on the 3rd Gen cars. If so, this will be much more practical for all of us who have access to some type of home charging, provided the OTR charging systems are more economical, plentiful, and better. As to that, when you bought a car in the 1920's, finding a gas station wasn't easy either. And gasoline in the 1920's could cost almost as much as gas did in the early 1970's during a gas war. I used to see gas for 19.9 cents a gallon just before the Embargo.

I have three 2020 bolts. I have had two of them for about two years. My wife drives one I drive one and recently my son started driving the third one. in my opinion there’s nothing better. Can charge all three from one set up at home doesn’t take very long for normal every day driving to keep the battery charged up. I usually charge it to 95% all these still have original batteries and have had no problems. as far as efficiency. Yes that’s great electric bill is not much more than it would be without them! Estimate average $80 more per month . winter time is 180 to 200 miles per charge in northern Indiana. Summertime is 220 to 310 Miles per charge ! They do take more in winter. Still very efficient. Overall design fun driving and initial cost. It’s just hard to beat.

I've been driving Bolt EV's since February 2017. Have had three new ones since then. The windshield on the newer EUV'S appear to be smaller limiting visibility somewhat. I don't care for the push button one pedal driving engagement preferring the original stick drive mode selector. The charging on all Bolts is way too slow in level 3 to make traveling distances in them practical. But for around town, you can't beat them. The EUV has Super Cruise available. I wouldn't even consider buying another GM product that didn't have Super Cruise installed. I'm looking forward to the updated Bolt supposedly coming out in 2025. They will hopefully have high tech batteries in them so traveling great distances will be just as good as around town making them a truly total driving vehicle.

I have a Bolt EV (no U). I love everything about it except for the 55 kW max charging speed. That makes it pretty hard to do road trips in, as I get to add about an hour of charging time for every 150 miles of driving (at highway speed). Mileage is about halved in the winter.

Now, you want to talk about winter range. Try, 60 miles in the winter using the 12v blanket. But, it is a great little car with great mi/kw. My 2021 Bolt Premier, is at 225 range at 80% charge. I just dress warm. I just use heater, to clear, the windows. Usually, crack the driver's window a sliver and it is good.

That’s a good point! Thanks for sharing this and for watching. Thankfully EVs have a long powertrain/battery warranty to help bring piece of mind. EV batteries are much more sophisticated in their design and software controlling them than other electronic devices. Unless using a level 3 supercharger they charge much slower than a normal phone or device taking almost 8 hours, and have better temp control to name a few of those items. I’m still not at the point of buying one, but I better like the technology and potential benefits each and every month, lol. 🙂

Forget all the bad hype on EV's the drive train will outlast the body! Could not kill the drive train on the dynes no matter how hard the engineers tried! ICE is dead and these will be the real future! PS took a 55 mile an hour hit broadside and the car slid sideways flat (any other car would have rolled). If the new "ultium" battery version DC charges faster than current version, and isn't more expensive, definitely on my list, because it qualifies for the IRA tax incentive. Even with the upcoming 2025, the price of the Bolt EUV now cannot be underestimated for kicking off the EV transition. I made the mistake of buying a Model Y, as it was just too....counter-intuitive for someone used to physical buttons and utilizing mirrors for driver-awareness. One time I drove the Model Y and accidentally locked myself out of the house because the phone acts as a key, therefore I didn't bring my car keys (with my house keys). Every time I drive the Model Y, it feels like I'm blind as I can't clearly see the side mirrors, and the rearview mirror is so small that I can't accurately judge distance.

I test drove a Y after the i3 and was just blown away at how much the screen was showing w/ surrounding traffic. It kinda sold me but I def like these Bolt prices and wouldn't be as scared about cost in the event of a repair or needing tires. Do you wish you'd gotten something else?

I am renting EVs during my business trips to figure out which model I would buy. The Bolt is all about being cheap and provide a good value. Compare to other EVs, it's not as refined in almost every way, but serve as an affordable option to transition from ICE. The IFE is poorly done. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are just add on components and not tightly integrated with the IFE and cluster display. With EV's advantage in stop and go drive, Google Maps can recommend EV-efficient routes, which often are not the normal routes, so navi screen is important, but you can't get energy display and navi display readouts at the same time, either on one screen or using both screens. Having driven other EVs with native Android Automotive OS, the difference is astonishing. GM carry too much legacy crap that no one wants like the OnStar controls take up all the room in the OHC and there isn't a place to store sunglasses. With the slow charging of Bolt, a good display navi info with battery stats are a must, which is overlooked in the design. The one good thing Bolt has is the Regen Paddle, that can help you conserve energy if you are in areas that don't have a lot of public chargers.

I have a 2019 Bolt EV Premier and love it. I love it even more once I ditched the OEM Michelins and put the new Goodyear ElectricDrive tires on it. However, buying it over the internet, I failed to notice that it doesn't have DCFC! Arrggghhh!!! My 45th car, and I studied these endlessly and totally spaced that detail. So with the Biden tax credit on used EV's and the falling price of used EUV's, I am eagerly looking for "the" deal where I can move from my EV to the EUV as cheaply as possible. I want a Premier EUV but just don't like the blue/gray interior combination, and it's very hard to find the two tone light ash combo. So I'll wait until the price comes down and I can easily make my used car swap. In the meantime, I LOVE my Bolt for my daily driving, do all my charging at home, and my electricity is only $0.09 per KWh, meaning it's almost free to drive!

The Bolt batteries are not made in China. LG, South Korea or US. Battery pack can be rebuilt, with bad modules replaced. This has been done with the lousy Nissan Leaf batteries. By the time 10 years is up, there will likely be aftermarket solutions to this. In addition, if you mostly charge with a Level 2 (240v) charger at 10-24 Amps, and don't run your battery down below 20%, your battery will probably last as long as the engine in an ICE -- 200k miles or more. There are Teslas and Bolts with over 300k miles.

Test drove one, loved it. The stealership was full of lying crooks - Gateway to Hell Chevrolet, Avondale, AZ. Didn't buy. Looked at KBB value recently, the 2023 KBB w/ 10K miles is HALF the out-the-door price. That's right folks, lose $20K in value after 10,000 miles. The battery is only guaranteed to keep 60% of charge capacity. And inflation and greed is so bad that this is considered a GOOD deal!

It is a great car! And hilarious as in enjoyable or fun. That’s partially due to its excessive low end electric torque. And because it’s front tires aren’t performance focused and the traction control system isn’t more advanced it’s hilarious how easily it can break the tires loose. Most cars that do a 7s 0-60 aren’t this theatrical. 😎

Hopefully battery technology gets cheaper with time. This Bolt has an 8 year 100k battery warranty, I think the Teslas have a 120k warranty factory. My brother has a Tesla with over 40k miles and less than 10% battery degradation. But it’s estimated rating could have also changed off of driving habits to recalibrate for anticipated mileage.
