Max impressed a lot in Miami with his tyre management but today he did even better. It's really 1 of many excellent skills this lad has in store. That first stint on the mediums was pure class, well done! Great weekend for Fernando too and its so great to see that big smile on his face again. And last but not least a superb weekend for Ocon. He did himself and the team a great favor. Actually a fun Monaco weekend for a change with the best qualy in a long long time and an interesting race with all the different tyre choices in the top10 and the rain spicing things up at rhe end.

I've been following this sport ever since I was a young kid in the mid-1980's. I've seen Prost, Senna, Häkkinen, Schumacher, Alonso, Räikkönen, Vettel and Hamilton, all in their prime. But more and more, while not fully sympathetic towards him and full of jealousy as Ferrari-fan, one has to admit that we're witnessing something else, on a different, higher level than ever before with a driver of the calibre of Max Verstappen. The guy has the consistency of a machine and a level that other champions can only touch while at their absolute peak (but not with the longevity and consistency as this guy)... Given there's an engine-freeze until 2026, as a Ferrari-fan I'm afraid that it's the Max Machine until then..., there's just nothing that catches him off guard, nothing we can throw at him he cannot handle, not even the weather gods. Which means my beloved Ferrari's dry spell between 1979 (Scheckter's world title) and 2000 (Michael Schumacher's world title) might be outdone this time round. Ferrari is waiting on a driver's title since 2007 and a constructors title since 2008 and there are no indications Ferrari will get it right anytime soon. But Fhat the Wuck: that Max is impressive..., I wish he would be in that Ferrari #jealous #admiration

Talk about Verstappen's role in setting up the car, and also in developing the car. He's been doing that his whole life. His feel for the car is so superior that it has to translate there as well. So... if that is true, could it be that, in the second year under the new regulations, Mercedes and Ferrari would have been much further ahead with Max as driver? This is why I like your take, you never show favor. Personally I think Max will break his record from last year for race wins in a season. Your thoughts on that? And as far as teams catching up to Red Bull, with everyone being what looks like miles behind this year they don't need car upgrades. They need an extra 200HP without ERS expect for Aston Martin yet on larger faster circuits Alonso is still 30-50 seconds behind Max. That is not a gap you can close in one season even if RB stops all upgrades this year.

When you're Max Verstappen you don't want to finish second to Sergio Perez." He did exactly the same a year earlier. I've seen this Baku 2023 analysis criticized on Twitter as highly biased (not as a fan of Perez but of Hamilton) , and you can't deny now that this is true.

I don't think we should read too much into the Monaco race, particularly not who was better than who in the race. We all know that the Monaco race is largely a merry-go-round for the rich and wealthy to be entertained, but of which the outcome of the race itself has largely been decided the day before. So, let's wait for Spain next week Sunday and have a better platform to evaluate the effectiveness of the upgrades by the various teams and the performances that will come out of it.

Meanwhile, Ocon massively outperformed expectations on Saturday and Sunday, while holding off better drivers in better cars, in both dry and wet conditions, on a notoriously difficult track, and barely making any mistakes. Thank you Peter as always for your insights. Another fairly boring Monaco GP spiced up a little in the end by the rain. Max drove brilliantly as he is able able to do week in and week out. It seems that some drivers are able to do this, Alonso, Hamilton etc., but others have to have their jobs and status threatened to notch up as per Ocon (he drove really well). Over the last 50+ years of watching this wonderful sport I've seen so many snatches of brilliance that were never capitalized upon. A good car is obviously needed as a foundation, but a champion just has that extra bit of 'je ne said quoi'.
