Great review. I went from a 22 powerboost lariat that i ordered from ford, to a 23 mach e gt pp that is exactly how i would order it, but was on the lot. 5 months in, 9k miles, and i love it. The simplicity of the driving experience and maneuvering ability is a understatement coming from a guy who only drove full size trucks to a ev. Only comfort i miss is the cooled seats. Havent seen many cold temps yet so cant comment on that. And the "i dont pay attention to gas prices" line, is sooooo much an understatement, as i dont even notice the prices anymore either Thanks for the review

Absolutely agree with your review. I had a ‘22 Premium that my wife totalled at Christmas. Ended up replacing it with a ‘23 GT for less than I paid for the ‘22 thanks to the price cuts. It’s a great car, fun to drive, and with good winter tires, it is absolutely awesome in the snow. (And I’m talking full-on Canadian winter!) The thing I would say about the Mach-E is that it’s a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. It does everything well, but isn’t necessarily exceptional at anything. There are other EVs that are more efficient, or have better software, or better range, or faster charging, or better handling, etc. Depending on your priorities, that might appeal to you more. But if you want a solid, well built car that is fun to drive and ALSO happens to be an EV? The Mach-E is a great choice. They’re also continuing to improve it. The 2023.5 and 2024 models have a more efficient cooling system. ‘24s will get new motors, faster charging and slightly better range.

It's unfortunate about your '22 Premium, but it's great to hear you found a replacement with the '23 GT, especially with the price cuts. And kudos for braving Canadian winters with it - sounds like it handles the snow like a champ! Your perspective on the Mach-E as a versatile but not necessarily exceptional EV is interesting. It's true; there are always trade-offs, but the Mach-E shines as a solid, fun-to-drive choice. Exciting to hear about the ongoing improvements too!

Great review, I would echo your review. I have a 2022 Premium Standard range rear wheel Mach-E and just hit 50K. Came from an F150 and the gas saving is amazing! Love driving it a lot of fun and really don't miss driving my F150 anywhere as much as I thought I would. Here in FL I don't have to worry about the winter which helps but I do road trip it about once a month about 350-500 miles and thankfully mostly positive public charging experiences. I do wish it charged a little quicker, 10-80% in 20-25mins would be nice. Thanks for the Video!

Plz talk about how much range in the cold.
@Thunderbuck7 ай бұрын
@@MrGamman3yt Sure. In the very coldest days of winter (we can see below -40) it cuts my indicated range by as much as half. And I’ll also admit that charging also slows down in the cold and I have to pay more attention to what charge I’m maintaining. But even at the very worst, at -40 at a full charge I’ve got about 150km range (vs over 400km in warmer weather). I don’t own my home and can only charge with the portable 120V on my block heater plug, but my employer has just moved to a building with L2 chargers and I expect these will easily keep my car “full” in the winter.

Excellent review! We have a 2023 Premium AWD standard battery that we picked up back in June (of 24), when the lease bonuses went into 5 figures, we couldn't resist! The car also had a substantial dealer discount as well, so suffice it to say we are very happy with what we paid. It's my wife's daily and she loves it. We did take it out of town once, and what you observe is pretty much correct, expect to stop about every 120 miles or so if you are going between 80 and 20 percent. Obviously if you start at 100% you'll get a bit more, and amount of HVAC used and forward speed also make a big difference. The most I have seen in the gauge cluster at 100% is 233 miles of range with the AWD/Standard battery combo.
@JimBronson2 ай бұрын
Update to my last comment: we don't take it out on the road a lot, but I've found I prefer to run it down to more like 5% or lower on road trips, that allows us to extract more range from the relatively range limited AWD Standard battery, and there is not a charging penalty like on the Tesla. If you're not familiar, if you run a Tesla down near zero it will charge very slowly at first. Because of the large battery buffer on the Mach-E that is not the case, I have plugged it in at 3% and gotten 130KWH within 30 seconds from the Electrify America charger. Obviously, what you can run it down to is dependent on the availability of chargers, if you're at 25% and there's no more chargers for 100 miles, you're going to have to stop regardless. But the point remains that I've been happier running it down more aggressively. I do live in Central Texas though so the coldest we will get in any given winter is usually in the lower to mid 20s, last year we got down to 13, but that is the exception rather than the rule. The average low temp in January is around 40, so it's not really very cold here, and the AC is a lot more efficient than the heat, for whatever reason.

This seemed like a thorough and even-handed take on the Mach-E. Very much appreciated your perspective, especially since you moved from a truck to the Mach-E. I’m considering the same move albeit from a Nissan Frontier, but until this truck I’d always driven V8 pickups. So I’m nervous about not driving a truck and also having zero experience with EVs. Would you recommend leasing to test the waters? Should I wait for the 2025? Thanks.

Nice overview. I have a 2021 First Edition and its probably my favorite car I've ever owned. After 3 years of ownership my only complaint is that you cant see artist and title of whats playing on the radio (radio or SiriusXM) if youre not actively on the radio screen...no option to have it show anywhere else on the main screen or the smaller gauge cluster. And since i always drive with Google Maps up via Android Auto, every time a song comes on and I want to know who sings it I have to switch the entire screen to the radio function, wait 3 seconds for that to load just to see the artist, then tap back into Android Auto. Very annoying as this happens multiple times/day, but definitely a first world problem. I just wish they didnt make those info/shortcut tiles at the bottom of the screen so small that they cant accommodate both artist and title 🤷♂️. Otherwise its got every feature and functionality that I want in an EV, to the point that I've had several opportunities to get a competing EV and declined because they were missing at least one or more feature the Mach-E has.

We got a GT recently. You touched on the key points here (at least for me when I considered one). 1) The range that Ford estimates is conservative. FWIW, compared to Tesla’s models, they tell the truth. Model Ys, even the LR ones are averaging 280mi range wise. CR ran a test with Mach E GT, Model Y Performance, and a KIA. In all cases, the KIA and Ford came in right where expected. Even in cold weather, in spite of the heat pump, the Tesla was only slightly better than the 2 (~15mi). For my GT, in warm weather, my range estimate goes up to 290 (vs. 275 stated). 2) The weather has a big effect. As stated, you can lose up to 40% of range if the temps drop below 40, but this is true for almost all EVs. 3) Additional tip: you can put the car into temporary neutral by pressing and holding “L” (after you exit the vehicle).
@evuniverseCOM8 ай бұрын
Thank you! How are you liking the GT?
@m3drivr8 ай бұрын
@@evuniverseCOM We’re really enjoying it. The tech, performance, build quality is quite good, though the ride is a little on the stiffer side, especially on poor roads. Yes, I think Ford could improve on the software, but the general needs of the user are met. I am glad that we got the GT. While the AWD Premium is pretty good already, the additional performance and slightly more upscale interior make it just a little more special. As a car nerd, one thing I didn’t like was the lack of rubber with the non GT variants, hence I leaned towards it. One note,I didn’t consider the GT PE because 1) the wheels, though nice, will be a repeated pain to clean and 2) the tires on it are summer tires, which means if you will have to get new rubber if you live/travel to snowy climates.

Pretty much my experience. Bought March 2024. Ford was dumping them, so no problem on price. Opposite side of the coin would be resale is probably down as well. Only problem is range reduction due to temp extremes. Here it’s heat. Try a trip when the temp is 112 degrees. A/C keeps up, but range is down just like in cold temp’s. And of course, 80 mph on freeway is always problematic. I’ll try some long distance again in more temperate times. That’s my *only* disappointment-I wanted to feel reasonably secure traveling 250 miles (90 kWh battery) without highway fast charge. We will see. One thing not emphasized…cost of charging! If you don’t charge at home, the car is significantly *more* expensive to drive than any ICE vehicle, hence this is not a long range trip car no matter the range. Best cost for an external fast DC charge was 54 cents a kWh. Doesn’t bother me as I bought this for local trip use. If you’ve no experience with high performance cars, you’ll find this a fun, fast vehicle. Interior room is competitive with other EV and most smaller ICE SUV’s.

13:20 I'm a little confused. you say that its cost about $60 a month to charge the car with all the driving you do and you also say it increased your electric bill. Are these two things separate? does your electric bill not just increase by about $60 a month? or does your bill increase separate from the money your paying to charge the car?
@evuniverseCOM7 ай бұрын
the $60 a month is the increase in the electric bill.

Odd comment about charging to 90% in the Select & which is an LFP battery (the only one to have, really). Having owned both NMC & now LFP battery chemistries in EVs, I’d never go back to NMC. ANY EVs with LFP battery chemistry can be charged whenever & how ever you like including to 100%. Beyond that 100% charge there is also a trickle charge battery balancing phase which generally checks out the battery health & adjusts cells as necessary. Down side on the bigger NMC batteries in many Western-built EVs is the general ginning about - only change to 80-90% on a regular basis (makes the range rating somewhat ingenuous) and along charge to 100% + balance every six weeks or so. Much prefer LFP.

Does this vehicle come in a hybrid model? I'm asking because there are hardly any EV charging stations in my area.
@evuniverseCOM7 ай бұрын
No, the Mustang Mach-E is a battery only vehicle. However, depending on how much you drive, you wouldn't necessarily need public charging stations. For most EV owners, a home charger is more than enough for daily driving, and never use the public chargers in their area. Where a lack of public charging becomes problematic is if you're trying to do roadtrips to/through areas that lack the infrastructure.

Ford's navigation system is not worth a CR_P. I needed to go to the next city for a doctors appointment. I live very close to a main 4 lane highway. As it goes to my destination. It changes to a 4 lane divided highway. Then I exit it onto a 4 lane divided expressway. Finally I exit onto a 4 lane main road through the city. Last turn I am less than a mile from mu destination. Every quick. My return was to city 10 miles below I origin. My friend who live there. He told me a route to his house. I missed the route number to his place. I punched in his address into Ford's navigation. It showed his address. Hit tapped "GO". A blue line showed up on a route. I followed it through all the secondary streets and all the stop lights. Where did I end up. I was at the junction where I exited off the 4 lane divided onto the 4 lane divided expressway. From a simple express travel to a complicated city streets.

One of the big reasons to get EV over hybrid no maintenance on EV
@m3drivr7 ай бұрын
@@Sluggo67 agreed. Hybrids are a stop gap. A mechanic I respected was working on a hybrid Highlander and was complaining about the integration. I debated one too, but if you consider the efficiency, for big SUVs, the gain is marginal. Hybrids make more sense for small crossovers but you still have maintenance.
