I'm a college student and rented a Mach-E out for the day to do some errands with a friend. The center infotainment display completely turned off in the middle of my trip. It would be blank and not let me do anything besides register tap sounds. I tried restarting and other troubleshooting tips to no avail. It was one of the most scary and eye-opening experiences for not having physical buttons in a car and being so reliant on a display for essential car functions.

I think it made sense at the time. They started selling these, what, 4+ years ago? Heat pumps are more abundant and cheaper now, and the tech has been rapidly improving. IIRC, lots of the 2021 era EVs did not have heat pumps standard, some brands were skipping them for RWD trims, etc.

As a new yorker, any ev without a heat pump is a paperweight 60% of the year. Its a slight modification to the air conditioning system to run it in reverse, that's it. No separate assembly is needed, its not like it takes up more space under the hood, it cost them like probably 20 dollars a car, and it would double their sales in cold climates. Any automaker making an EV without a heat pump that has AC should be barred from the US over energy consumption concerns. Resistive heating elements absolutely guzzle electricity. My old ioniq used to go from 220 miles to 120 miles when the heater was on, it was crazy how much power the heat used.

EVs are so tech-heavy that leases seem to be the best way to go. Depreciation of all but the most utilitarian vehicles is in flux, and I see a lease as a way to guarantee the parameters of the deal. Even though I do not trade cars every 2-3 years (my vehicles are 9 and 29 years old) and I've never leased in my life, I'm trying to learn as much about leases as possible. In 3 years, the technology in most EVs is going to be very outmoded. Will it work? Sure. But the pace of advancements means that things will be MUCH different than they are today. So that means that making a lease deal where you can choose the mileage and lease length parameters and lock in your trade-in value now allows the market to mature for the next 2-3 years, which is a lifetime in technology terms. Cars are increasingly technology on wheels, and that's not going to change any time soon. Imagine holding on to your phone without swapping it out for 6-8 years, much less 9-29...

Even when it tries to kill me with snap-throttle oversteer, I like the car a lot. it is small, crude, noisy, has over damped shocks that makes highway driving a jarring experience. That being said, it wins in the smiles-per-mile contest, and I do NOT see that with this Mach-E. As a side note, it is the most reliable car I have owned. The only issue in 83k miles was a very minor leak from the clutch system's slave cylinder. The rest has been oil, wiper blades, and tire changes. I even used it as a "moving truck". It was nothing short of amazing at how much you can stuff in the back of it. Anyway, another excellent review.

With EVs selling so poorly in the US of A, I’m sure Ford is looking at getting whatever buyers they can. Think the next generation might be hybrid?

Don’t let this distract you. Hectors going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines. And on top of that, he just came into Harry’s and he ordered three T66 turbos, with nos, and a motec system exhaust.

Another EV nobody wants. They can't give away the ones they've already produced.

They've moved 50,000 Mach E's in the US so far this year. They must be doing something right. With how improved the 2025's are (...and cheaper), I expect the sales trajectory to keep going up on these.

Stop watching every single clickbait sales video like I used to. They are all full of shit

There are still some 2023s on dealer lots and 2024s have some serious discounts. So there are getting them out the door, but must be costing Ford a fortune.

Biggest mistake is ford not putting the new google system in this (same system in the nautilus). On the Google system in the Lincoln nautilus it’s all through the screen but it’s instant response no waiting, sync systems need to die 💀💀

Test drove a Mach E when they first came out, had an enormous amount of bugs and glitches in the infotainment. Looks like not much has changed is all that time 😔

It's a modern Ford so I'm sure it's garbage, but at the same time, this is the coolest development in cars in a long minute. Imagine if the current crop of edgelords get over cosplaying as construction workers, and get into rallycross? There might actually be cool cars here and there again.

I don’t like the way it looks with those wheels and tires…. I think a regular Mach E GT looks pretty nice.

the problem with Hyundai and Kia interiors is they look good for about 3 days. they don't last and degrade rapidly. you won't see that in an American made product.

I used to do software at Ford. I am incredibly un-surprised by that infotainment system. Too many higher-ups with their grips on how the software teams operate, high turnover, kinda shit pay for the field, too much outsourcing, and very poor technological decision making due to the higher ups not letting the technical teams make their own decisions.

How in the blue hell did Ford said. Yes, our customers have been begging us to make an electric Rally Mach E "Mustang"... Seriously, who are they targeting here. 🤦

Wow! What a terrible center screen! However, I am excited by the depreciation of most EVs due to the constant advancements so that there should be some great used EVs on the market by time we need our next vehicle.

I like the size, the shape and the concept. It just isn’t refined enough to be a great car. It could be great, if Ford keeps chipping away the rough edges. Electric screen gremlins and clunking steering are non-starters.
