Your video was very helpful in preparing me for my own install! That part about the hidden clip at 11:09 was extremely great to know because I would've never guessed one to be hiding there! Fun fact: you can install the rear flaps without removing the tires...it's just more of a pain in the butt to do so!
@jimsgaragetoys Жыл бұрын
Glad it helped! I learned a long time ago that spending a few minutes in preparing can save a lot of time during he install. This was a perfect example that the few minutes removing the tire saved time installing the mud flap!

I just managed to do this without taking any wheels off and I left most of the liner still attached in the rear, it is a little more time consuming but it probably equals how long it takes to jack up and down each side and taking off each wheel. You just need to pop the 2 clips at the bottom, push out the liner and bumper away from each other, then clip in the bracket and pop the liner back in, add the clips and screws, bolt on the mud flaps, Done in the back. The front was as easy as just turning the wheel all the way to one side away from my work area.
@jimsgaragetoysАй бұрын
Yep, there are different ways to do this. Keep in mind when I did it the GR Corolla had just come out, in fact I bought the first one my local dealer got. After doing maintenance and mods for almost 2 years I've figured out different ways to do many things, that being said it takes but a few minutes to jack up a corner and remove a wheel.

I just put mine on today. Honestly, you don’t even need to remove anything for the rear. As long as you have a plastic trim puller, you can just wedge it where the metal clips go, then slide it down to the next and repeat. Saved me a ton of time. Either way, looks fantastic!

People have come up with some short cuts since the GRC has come out. It's not a big deal to remove the panel though. I've helped some others do theirs and I can do it in no time even taking off the panel.

They should include longer screws for those locations where the factory screw is too short to bite. Not an easy fastener to spec. Looks like they could provide one more of the ones you use for the bracket on the upper portion.

very happy to come across your video! I’ve been putting off installing mine since I tried the front a few weeks ago and the factory fastener wouldn’t stay in! glad to hear you just need a slightly longer one. two follow up questions for you: 1.) what size & length replacement fastener did you get for the front underside? and where from? 2.) is it possible to do the rears without taking the wheels off?
@jimsgaragetoys Жыл бұрын
I used the OEM screw and just looked through my jars of screws that I had. Worst case scenario would be to take the OEM screw to a hardware store and get the same diameter but longer. I used screws that were around 1" long. To do the rears you need to take off the wheels. There just isn't enough room to install them with the tire in the way. On the front ones you can turn the steering wheel to get them out of the way. Just jack it up and remove the wheel. Make sure to use a jack stand. It's not terribly hard and with this as a guide you should be able to do it quickly.

Did you make sure it was going into the second white plastic spacer? Mine was coming out too then realized it wasn't going into the white spacer

Thanks for sharing. Do you know the screw spec for the underside? I'd like to get the same but maybe a half inch longer.
@jimsgaragetoys Жыл бұрын
I don't off the top of my head. I was able to just use the OEM screw and find a couple of screws the same size but that were a little longer. Think 1/4" was enough if I remember.

What is the lug nut size to remove the tires? Everywhere I look it says 21mm but they are certainly NOT 21mm... and how did you remove the lug nut caps; those suckers won't come off!
@jimsgaragetoys Жыл бұрын
I just checked and my OEM lug nuts are 21mm. If you have the OEM lug nuts you must not have a 21mm socket.

I don’t understand the price end of this but I still bought them to test them. After getting all the hardware I came to check on this video and I’m not sure if I wanna install this. It’s a pretty simple mudflap at a high price with a complicated installation. It looks great and protects the car though
@jimsgaragetoys Жыл бұрын
The installation isn't difficult at all. I figured it out without anything to go on. I made the video to help give others a path to follow when installing them. They do an excellent job of protecting the car. Worth every minute it takes to install them.

Does it fit for toyota corolla 2017?
@jimsgaragetoys Жыл бұрын
This part is designed for the GR Corolla. I would think that you could get a set of their universal mud flaps if they don't have a set for your exact Corolla. I also have a 2017 Corolla iM and I was thinking of getting a universal set for that car too.

Jim, it looks like the front mud guards are more important to have than the rears. Can you buy only the front set?
@jimsgaragetoys Жыл бұрын
Nope, they only sell them as a set of 4 as far as I know. The 2nd rear side was much quicker and easier to install after figuring out how to do it. Being able to see this first will make it a snap.

@@jimsgaragetoys I found a set of universal fit Rally Armor mud guards for $69.00. Wonder how easy installation would be?

@@dougmaverick3287 I would try them for sure. The price of these is very high for what they are. The rear mud flaps can easily be just screwed into the piece that is removed in the video. @@oTitanBlacko Sweet! What happened to your transmission?
@oTitanBlacko Жыл бұрын
@@jimsgaragetoys My GRC was pre-owned when I bought it, 2k miles on it. Previous owner's kid killed the clutch, beat on the car. Toyota pulled codes and showed it was being tracked and drifted and hard launches. According to the Dad, his kid didn't know how to drive manual that well. Toyota denied the warranty repair. Dad paid out of pocket for new OEM clutch. They drove on it for 500-600 miles, then traded the car. Didn't find that info out until after I bought it. Since I bought it, the transmission and clutch have been making loud noise, loud chattering when letting out the clutch pedal. Brought it to Toyota since I'm the new owner and it was an existing issue from the previous owners. A Toyota Corporate Tech flew out and diagnosed my car and said the noise is coming inside the transmission and narrowed it down to the output shaft. Recommending to replace the transmission, but again, Toyota denied the warranty repair, even through I didn't do anything but buy the car. The selling dealership agreed to replace the transmission, but I also told them to inspect or replace the throw out bearing because that's what it sounds like. It's been a nightmare. I'm still waiting on the new transmission to show up. I feel it's unfair of Toyota to punish me for the previous owners neglect or actions of the car. So I had to fight with the selling dealership. Been fighting with all this since 11/27/23.

How thick are the rubber flaps? Like an 1/8”? Seems really floppy
@jimsgaragetoys Жыл бұрын
I'd have to check the thickness. The material is more flexible. I think it's standard for the brand.
